Better With Behind the Wheel French Revised
Henry S. Raymond's Learn in Your Car French is clearly and indisputably one of the best 'bang for your buck'car French courses on the market.
Good Purchase
I have taken a few French classes and this was a fun easy refresher to teach and go over the basics in spoken French language.It also helps refine pronunciation and was exactly what I was looking for.It might be a little challenging for someone with no experience at all in the language.

The First 3 CDs Helped Tremendously!
I had to go to Paris for a conference and didn't know the first bit of French other than "Bon jour!" and "Oui." I searched through many options and, after reading all the reviews, decided on French Complete. I spent two months (about 3-4 hours per week) listening to the first 3 CDs (Level 1) over and over and over again in the car. By the time I left for my trip, I was surprisingly comfortable with basic French conversation. I was confident I would be just fine. Read more

Well worth buying and reading
This book is aimed at explaining proficiency oriented language teaching, and has very valuable material on proficiency and its importance. This is something many teachers seem to overlook as too obvious to be of concern, but Hadley shows it to be a central issue in teaching. The criticism made by one reviewer that it's tilted too much toward communicative teaching is mistaken. There's a difference between communicative teaching and proficiency oriented teaching, although they are obviously related. This book, like any other, is not sufficient by itself, but needs to be read an compared to others in order to get a range of viewpoints. It is not of instantaneous practical use to classroom teachers, but rather deals with the ideas behind teaching methods. It is a very valuable addition to a teacher's bookshelf and I have no regrets about buying it.

Why did I buy this book?
I remember using it in a course I took a few years ago, and I was thrilled to find so many different aspects of language teaching covered in one volume.When I was thinking of buying the present edition, I asked a friend, someone with a Master's degree in TESL/TEFL, her recommendation, and she said: "Well, Doug Brown recommended it to me."So I bought Teaching Language in Context, and am very glad I did.

If I were to choose one book
No book can cover every aspect of language instruction, but by all means Hadley's work would be right up there with Ellis, Richards and Rodgers among others.This is a solid book, jam packed with historical facts and insights, and I feel has caught the full heart of the profession representing the current state of the profession.I could not disagree with the first reviewer more.I am reading this book through and I love this book. This is not a technique-y book at all but a serious treatise and contribution to educators who want to have a broader scope on theory and instruction. In my mind, the author answers the who, what, where, when, how, and why not just of one method but does it with several of the major methods. And this she does in Chapter three!This is a 512 page text and to my mind, the reading is coherent, smart, and digestable. This text is certainly one of the better foundational texts for comprehensive grasp of the field.This book is be a springboard to assist the reader to think through the past and present assumptionan about teaching language; it is an excellent choice! Classical rhetoric was spoken, never written
I came to this book through my Classical Rhetoric class as an undergrad.As someone with a pre-existing background in formal logic and rhetorical reasoning, there was little that was new, but most of it was recast from the mathematical model to the oratorical model.This si the penultimate text on classical rhetoric, and the inclusion of the progymnasmata exercises is an interesting option for structuring class assignments.Sometimes the text is a little dense, but it is also authoritative and generally a good resource for an introduction to argumentative logic and classical rhetoric.

Rhetoric is Required
This book should be required reading for all college graduates.

Reading Comp Made Easy
This book gives good strategies to use with students to increase their reading comprehension. I am using the textbook for my reading and writing class but I know I will refer to it once I start teaching.

Great Ideas
The book arrived in time for me to use it for my Master's class. It was also utilized by a friend of mine who is already a teacher. She said the book is one of the best she's seen and needs to be used as textbook by Master's Programs in Education.
An excellent and highly useful resource
Of the many books on reading strategies, this one had the highest quantity of innovative activities (tools) that I need for my social studies and language arts classes. I love the many clever reproducibles and how they help develop the six reading strategies (habits) in engaging ways--especially for my students who are not usually interested in reading or becoming better readers! Multisensory Teaching of Basic Language Skills
This book gives language teachers a great wealth of information regarding dyslexia and reading problems.

A parent's point of view
...this is a great book that I'vesearched for.It pulls tons of useful information about dyslexia into one spot.Only one warning I would send out to parents - this is a textbook not a "pop culture" book.I've found the reading slow going as I'm unfamiliar with many of terms and concepts as I'm not a linguist or teacher.Having said that, I belive I now understand how to help my daughter learn easier which will open many previously closed doors to her.The textbook is worth the effort!!

Terrific resource
Anderson explains how to show students the practicality of grammar and how to teach it in context rather than isolation in a way that middle school students will not only understand but also enjoy.He provides lists, lessons, examples, and everything needed to take this approach and immediately implement it in the classroom.This is one of the best-written and most helpful books I have read in years.

A MUST HAVE RESOURCE FOR TEACHING GRAMMAR AND WRITING
I absolutely adore this book! It's incredibly user friendly, and I didn't feel stupid about grammar while reading it. The first half of the book sets up the lessons. The second half is the lessons. It's obvious Jeff uses a writer's notebook and writer's workshop. He truly makes 'grammar in context' a meaningful and attainable way to teach. I have used several of the lessons with my fourth graders and they love it. I think only a book like this, and Jeff himself, could get someone like me to yell AUWWBIS like a farmer's pig call. It's fun and effective - get this book!

Indespensible, easy to use and comprehensive.
This dictionary is an indispensable dictionary for anyone who has any need for a Chinese-English dictionary.It is organized alphabetically by pinyin.Looking up a compound term is very easy.I know of no other Chinese-English dictionary that has so many compound entries or is so easy to use once the pinyin is known.
Good dictionary but...
I'm very happy about the sheer number of entries, I don't think there are many others like this one. The problem is (and for me it is a main issue) that you cannot roam the entries by characters. That's a big drawback, so unless you know the pyinin it will take ages to find what you're looking for. So I am now returning this dictionary and still looking for another one, where once you found the radical, you can find the word by character first.

Great Dictionary, though not best solution for classroom
I bought this dictionary based on the rave reviews here. I was not disappointed. My biggest problem with other dictionaries has been that I invariably come across a word that isn't in the dictionary. I haven't looked something up in this one yet that I haven't found. The drawbacks mentioned in other reviews apply (can't roam the entries by character, and you have to know what you're looking for) but they aren't show stoppers. I find that for organized study this is an excellent dictionary to keep on the shelf.

A writer's workshop how-to
I just attended the workshop of the same name.I highly recommend, not only this workbook, but seeing Nancie in person.This binder includes reproducibles and essential workshop mini-lessons.

I am a student featured in "Lessons that Change Writers"
I attended the Center for Teaching and Learning my 7th and 8th grade years (2001-2002) while Nancie was writing this book. I have a few pieces of my writing in the book itself and I am on the cover; (James or "Jimmy" Morrill).Having been an actual student of Nancie I actually know the mini-lesson well.It truly is the best of the best.

text and binder
This is the text and the binder of teacher worksheets. I think its a very comprehensive program that, while it does require a lot of teacher time at the output, really does produce results. I just bought the program and i was a bit concerned whether it was just the text or both the text and the binder (hence the title). Last year, i peeked in on another teacher's resources and i was able to better my writing lessons. I do think the program is best used as a whole rather than piecemeal-style. If you already have an established writing program it is probably not for you, but if you are looking for one good resource, your money would be well spent on this! ... Read more

Improving Reading: Strategies And Resources (Paperback)
This book was highly recommended by my graduate professor a few years ago, and it has become my most used reference. I wouldn't be without it. Johns and Lenski have compiled a comprehensive collection of interventions specific to each need. The layout is clean and easy to reference quickly for busy teachers. The strategies are based on sound research and experience. As a reading specialist, its a requirement, but every elementary teacher would benefit from its wealth of information.

Excellent product, and an excellent value
A woman that is passionately in love with Italy and all things Italian writes this review.I tend to study the Italian language before my trips to Italy and then immediately stop using it once the trip is over.I have finally decided to get serious about studying Italian on an ongoing basis and bought this book.The book is much more complete than I expected it to be.I will summarize the layout of the book and the pros and cons from my perspective.
Excellent Workbook--Great Value!
I have been extremely pleased with this workbook.It has a large variety of exercises and puzzles that keep me interested.The grammatical explanations are clear and concise.The format is appealing and easy to read.I do a few sections each day, and I am making great progress without feeling overwhelmed.

This is an excellent workbook to complement the audio portion of any self-study language program in italian.Its' strength is to present material in small digestible chunks of information of both grammar and vocabulary, that can be understood and digested on a daily basis. The practice exercises - that follow a dialog presentation of a typical activity representative of daily life and a small dose of grammar - reinforced the daily feeling of accomplishment.
