5-0 out of 5 stars You will learn from this book if you are ready and willing to do the work
There is a basic rule in taking advice:Never take it from someone who has not achieved the thing you want to achieve. That means, if you want to be rich, you must learn to ignore people who are not rich when they spew their opinions at you. This rule has never been more relevant than now, when comparing these two men of great achievement with the envious, entitlement-minded people who are disparaging the book with ignorant, negative reviews.
2-0 out of 5 stars Kiyosaki is a broken record
After reading this book and Rich Dad Poor Dad, I have come to one conclusion...Robert Kiyosaki is a broken record. How many times can I read him write the same sentance and paragraph- over and over again in the same book?Kiyosaki's portion of the book provides some surface information but little depth on how to become wealthy, eventhough he specifically claims that he wants to teach us how to become rich. His writing style is a bit arrogant and provides little value to a person wishing to learn about personal finance.I agree with previous reviews about this book being a cheerleader book.
    1-0 out of 5 stars Don't bother
I borrowed this from a friend so I didn't bother spending any money so at least I'm not kicking myself. However, like another reviewer stated, this is mainly a cheerleading session. If you really want something logical to read that involves personal finance and building wealth, read something by Dave Ramsey. The only REAL way you can get rich (without winning or inheriting money) is by working hard, paying off debt, learn to use a budget, stop borrowing money, and quit saying "I want it and I want it now."It's called common sense. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars A selfless "self-help" book...that actually works
I couldn't put it down. This book has everything you need to improve your life and the lives of the people around you. I've read other self-help books but they were never very helpful. After reading this one I was completely inspired. Last night I signed up to volunteer in my community! From now on I am definitely going to live from me to we.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Study Tool
This book has many practice problems, but the overall review of the materials is lacking. If you aren't up to scratch on the math and verbal already, you should consider spending on some other review materials. Make sure you time yourself while doing the problems -- timing isKEY. I used this book along with Princeton's Verbal Workout. It worked out.

It makes the case that we all need to understand our style for handling the inevitable duress of a difficult conversation, and they complement theories with excellent, actionable strategies that work well in the real world.

By:Jeffrey W. Bennett, Founder of LayMentor and author of Under the Lontar Palm.
2-0 out of 5 stars Ok~ but I think the Keirsey Temperment Test is more accurate - and cheaper.
This book has its good points. If anything, it helps you put into words what you wantfrom a supervisor, but it is not very accurate. The online test does not account for a difference between when 2 of their options are both exactly like you, or if they don't describe you at all. This messes up the results, and it did not describe me very well. I am not just in denial. I have taken a lot of personality type tests, like the Keirsey Temperment sorter and have a pretty good idea of my strengths. So, although this book is pretty good in making you understand the importance of incouraging your strengths, it still leaves you wondering about how you fit in to their terminology.

5-0 out of 5 stars Outstanding!
Dale Carnegie is one of the authors I have admired for so long. There are numerous reasons why this book is a classic one. He deeply believes that in every person there is good and you can approach it. Of course, there are many negative people who don't like this book because they see everything in black and white. Carnegie on the other side advocates a really delicate, positive and humane approach to everyone around you. It comes very close to "treat the others as you want them to treat you". I am sure that if everyone read and apply the principles in this wonderful book, the world will be a better place. I am sure that you will be pleased as well with his talent to really understand what drives people. Some of the key and basic motivators he discussed are sex and being important. His viewpoint is very close to the one of the bestselling author of scientfically guaranteed male multiple orgasms and ultimate sex. After all genius things are usually simple. Carnegie explores the human nature and common hot buttons together with the reader and gives you tools to manage and push them at your will with the help of numerous examples. I liked that the book is practical, easy and fun to read, and most of all that it delivers great value. I can not say the same for many other books. Definitely get a copy especially if you are a "good" person and prefer to treat people with respect and dignity.

5-0 out of 5 stars If only...
If everyone in the world read this book just once, it would be such a more enjoyable place to live in...

This book may be the one that Created the genre. And what was true then is just as true today. One of the loveliest parts about this book are the stories and anecdotes from the time when it was written. It was a simpler time back then. And the people faced such different dilemas than we do today.Yet, the more things change, the more things stay the same. The humanity of this books comes through loud and clear. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars great reference of psychiatric illnesses
I think this book will be a pretty good resource for anyone searching for information regarding sleep disorders and mood swings. It will also teach anyone new to psychiatrics valuable information on dementia, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, etc. as well as diagnoses associated with the illnesses.

5-0 out of 5 stars The closest thing to Diagnostic Guidelines in Psychiatry
This is the full manual that you need to at least be in the ballpark on a diagnosis to help treat your patients with reasonable certainty. With Diagnosis, there is prognosis...and with this book, you can give a patient some relatively confident answers about what they are experiencing. One disadvantage to this full text is that it is large, and there is a lot of verbage. The scaled down desk version or the pocket guide to the DSM IV that you may want to have on rounds.
4-0 out of 5 stars Still "The" Text We All Know About
DSM will remain as the bible of psychiatry. Despite its shortcomings, DSM has made it possible for clinicians to talk more objectively about psychiatric illnesses. Now more than ever, people around the globe can actually understand what 'schizophrenia' or 'bipolar disorder' really is. So if you're a trainee or a practising clinician, devour it, master it, enjoy it, and use it. But don't take the criteria too literally. Highly recommended! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Reference Book - For Lawyers???
I work in law not medicine.I bought Taber's because of the many personal injury cases with which I was involved.People talk about legal language - nothing compares to medical terminology.
4-0 out of 5 stars Great staple for anyone in the medical field
Taber's Cyclopedic Medical Dictionary is all encompassing, defining the simplest to the most complex terms. To be honest, however, I rarely even open it because it came with access to their website for a 6 mo trial. Since I do most of my work (I'm still in school) on the computer, it's much easier for me to run a search than go get the book. Potential buyers: this is more of a "dictionary" than encyclopedia. You're not going to get long explanations but short definitions, otherwise it would be volumes and volumes long. One more thing: it's a very pretty book - well bound; having it on your book shelf makes you look like you actually might know what you're doing!! ... Read more

So many people around deserve to be praised and taught a lesson and it is very important HOW you will do it because the final result can be very positive or just the opposite. It is a very valuable book which is very well written and is a fast read. I also highly recommend the other books from the One Minute Manager series because every book has a lot to offer and they will be especially helpful if you are in a business environment.

This book looks really attractive. The layout is interesting, and makes it easy to find things. That is about the extent of the positives of this book, however.

The lure of this book's promise starts with the assumption in its title. Possibility--that big, all-encompassing, wide-open-door concept--is an art? Well, who doesn't want to be a skilled artist, whether in the director's chair, the boardroom, on the factory floor, or even just in dealing with life's everyday situations? Becoming an artist, however, requires discipline, and what the authors of Read more

This book was recommended to me several times, and I'm glad I finally found the time to read it.
3-0 out of 5 stars Great title - not as good on the content
I finished a book last night - The Art of Possibility. Great title but not as inspiring as I had hoped. It did have one quote that I liked. A great maestro, Herbert von Karajan jumped into a taxi and shouted to the driver "Hurry, hurry". "Very good sir " where to?" said the driver. "It does not matter" said von Karajan. "I am needed everywhere".
2-0 out of 5 stars It's what you want it to be.
I respect all the positive reviews here, but have a different opinion. For me, this book was like being trapped at a 2 hour meal in a restaurant with a couple I didn't like. If you already see the world in very positive terms, this book will verify your view in glowing new ways. If you're not in a positive place and are trying to get out of it by reading books with titles like "The Art of Possibility", it's not for you. At all. Does it help when people invite you to "cheer up?" Didn't think so. Imagine that x 100. Annoying.

5-0 out of 5 stars Simple techniques
I took the online Kaplan LSAT review and was pretty discouraged, especially since it cost me $150.Other courses seem to spend far too much time on elaborate diagrams that are hard to read. This book has you marking very simple diagrams from the very beginning. It also shows you how to use previous answers to complete later questions.I am only spending time on this book now.

4-0 out of 5 stars Pretty good
Best games technique book on the market, I must say.The glossary in the back of every game ever is especially useful.
4-0 out of 5 stars Very, very helpful
I'm taking the LSAT this coming weekend. When I first started to prepare over the summer, I would miss 12-18 questions out of 22-23 in a Logic Games section on practice tests. But after using this book and practicing intensively with the methods it provides, my accuracy level has skyrocketed. Now on my practice tests, I'm missing just 1-2 problems per Games section, and nearly always finishing with plenty of time to spare.

5-0 out of 5 stars The best baby sign language product to get started with!
This kit is excellent! My daughter is 20 months old and she can sign about 90 signs! She communicates so well with us that she does not ever cry or whine for things and she understands us so well! This kit has all that you need to get started signing with babies! The dvd even has Joseph Garcia signing so you can see how the signs are made. You can also go to the specific word that you would like to see how to sign such as BABY. The laminated guide is great too-you can carry it in the diaper bag or let Grandma borrow it! I buy this for all of my friends that are expecting!

5-0 out of 5 stars Like taking a class with the author
In her book Reading Like a Writer Francine Prose, herself the author of some 14 novels as well as other works of nonfiction, advocates "close reading"--reading fiction "word by word, sentence by sentence, pondering each deceptively minor decision that the writer has made"--both as a means of appreciating literature and as a practical aid in writing one's own prose. After introducing her method in chapter one, Prose spends the next eight chapters showing us how it's done, focusing initially on individual words, then sentences, and broadening her focus eventually to consider characters and dialogue and narration.
5-0 out of 5 stars One of the two or three best books on writing I've encountered
Ms Prose takes seriously the idea that one learns to write by studying models of good writing, what she calls "close reading." She examines different features of classic fiction, most of it from the 19th century, but some of it contemporary, and analyzes specimens of solid craftsmanship.
5-0 out of 5 stars "Putting every word on trial for its life."
Francine Prose, in "Reading Like a Writer," argues that creative writing cannot be taught in a classroom.A workshop may provide valuable encouragement and support for a fledgling writer, and a good instructor may show a novice how to edit his work more effectively. However, a writer learns his craft by reading and rereading the books, novels, plays, and short stories of great writers, and he improves his skills through practice.Prose recommends studying "meter with Ovid, plot construction with Homer, comedy with Aristophanes."She backs up her thesis by giving a host of examples from writers she admires, such as Austen, Hemingway, Joyce, Chekhov, and others who are a bit more obscure.

    Editorial Review

Climbing Mount Everest: dangerous. Hitchhiking in Colombia: very dangerous. Leading through change: perilous. Perilous but possible, say Heifetz and Linsky in their encouragingly practical guide to putting yourself on the line and negotiating the hazards of leadership. As the authors acknowledge, many leadership books are "all about inspiration, but downplay the perspiration." This one doesn't. Leadership is always a risky business, but those risks can be understood and reduced. Effective leadership comes from doing more than the technical work of routine management; it involves adaptive work on the part of the leader, and a willingness to confront and disturb people, promote their resourcefulness, and engage their ability to adjust to new realities. But adaptive change always encounters resistance. Heifetz and Linsky examine four forms of resistance--marginalization, diversion, attack, and seduction--before presenting a number of practical resistance-response skills to nurture and employ. Some are fairly obvious (like developing and maintaining perspective, and holding steady in the midst of change), and others more complex (like thinking politically when dealing with friends, foes, and fence sitters), but shimmering nuggets of insight and practical wisdom can be found in each. The dangers of leadership also spring from within, however, and the book's final section addresses ways to recognize and manage competing "hungers" and learn to distinguish one's roles from one's self. The authors' points are illustrated by the experiences of leaders from all walks of life, making this a useful and inspiring manual for anyone hoping to put themselves on the line and make a difference in the lives of others. 5-0 out of 5 stars If you're a leader . . . soak in this book
Let's face it: leadership is dangerous. As Heifetz and Linsky write in their introduction, "Each day brings you opportunities to raise important questions, speak to higher values, and surface unresolved conflicts. Every day you have the chance to make a difference in the lives of people around you. And every day you must decide whether to put your contribution out there, or keep it to yourself to avoid upsetting anyone, and get through another day. You are right to be cautious. Prudence is a virtue. You disturb people when you take unpopular initiatives in your community, put provocative new ideas on the table in your organization, question the gap between colleagues' values and behavior, or ask friends and relatives to face up to tough realities. You risk people's ire and make yourself vulnerable. Exercising leadership can get you into a lot of trouble."

4-0 out of 5 stars Helpful Insight
I've been on a leadership book kick lately, and this is one of my all-time favorites. It's short, easy to read, and is one of the best explanations of cognitive dissonance for the layman I've ever seen. It doesn't work for everybody though - some people are turned off by the "fable" format and simple writing style. I still find it very helpful, and it's the kind of book that can have a dramatic impact on some of its readers. It certainly does a good job of making the point that by focusing on our own behavior we can make any situation better.

This book is not really about leadership. It is about being nice to people. And remember, any problem you have with another person in life is your fault. So, apologize, start over, and be nice.
