Good tests, Sloppy Study Tips
There are two parts of this book, one entirely dissapointing, the other only slightly so.
WOW!
I used this guide exclusively to prepare for the MAT and I placed in the 99th percentile!! As a previous reveiwer stated, there isn't much evidence that I'm a genius and I haven't been a college student in many years so I have to credit this guide. I took each of the practice tests in the book and found that the questions on my MAT were very similar...no surprises, no curveballs. Don't forget to brush up on simple geometry, roman numerals, gods and godesses, negative exponents, and famous historical philosophers, scientists, etc. Good luck!

Good information, fun to do tests
The book does provide information to prepare you for the MAT. Although the MAT I took had a lot more "definition" of words than the tests in this book, but I guess that depends on the MAT you get. Teo important parts to review in this book are the vocabulary and similar words. ... Read more

MAT review
Not really all that useful, Kaplan, Barron's and REA guides are better. Acceptable for a quick skim and the practice tests. The exam is difficult, pace yourself carefully and you will probably do better than you think.

All errors have been fixed, really helped me out
I bought this book in 8/05 (3rd edition) and all the errors indicated in the other reviews were fixed. I really think amazon.com should remove them. I scared me after I had bought it, and paid 20$ for it, that it would be riddled with mistakes.
Disappointment with MAT Study Guide
Like most college students, one tries to get the best prices they can when purchasing study guides.I went with the Princeton Review name on this book and I was extrememly disappointed.I found errors in the practice tests such as numbering errors.I was very disappointed when after reading the book from the front to the back and back to the front none of the material the author told me to study was on the exam!Not one question relating to the information in the MAT Study Guide was relevant to the exam itself.I would never buy a Princeton Review Guide by this author or company again!

Life Saver
I needed to take my MAT earlier than I originally expected in order for my scores to make it to the grad school I was applying for on time.With the help of this study guide, I passed the first time.

MAT review
Good book, a little too basic if you are aiming for the 99th percentile, add Sternberg and Budd for completeness. Good art and literature section, good vocabulary list. Inadequate for history. Do all the practice tests, pace yourself during the exam, it's difficult but you will do better than you think.

Worth the time and money
In all honesty, I researched on Amazon about the best MAT book, then got in a hurry and bought whatever the local book store had, which is this one. I highly doubt there is a bad MAT study guide out there.
REA review
Good book, the history section is too detailed, be sure to know the vocabulary lists thoroughly, they are easy points. The exam is tough but do not panic the results are usually better than you would think.

Advanced, but not always clear
I purchased Michelle Spence's (Cliff's) Miller Analogies Test Preparation Guide as well as Sternberg's (Barron's) How to Prepare for the MAT -- probably overkill -- but I studied both thoroughly and got a very high score.It was worth it!I have a hunch that Sternberg helped more in the middle score ranges and perhaps Spence in the higher more difficult analogies.Spence stretched my limits.She was more abstract, often leaving me unsatisfied that I understood or agreed with her logic.Sternberg offered clear and helpful details not only about the analogies, but also about every angle of preparing for the test.If I had to choose only one, I would buy Sternberg, but together they offered considerable strength.I think Spence probably added to my score at the top.When I finished the actual test, I felt I had not done as well as I had on the practice tests in either of the preparation books, but actually I had scored higher than nearly all my scores on the practice tests.I valued both of their insights.
