3-0 out of 5 stars Great for practice tests, but the rest of the stuff is nothing new.
I bought this book along with the ACT for Dummies, and I only use this book for the practice tests. Whether you want to improve your score or just get a feel for the test, this book's 3 practice tests can't be beat. After all, they are the real ACT tests.
5-0 out of 5 stars An Essential ACT Prep Tool
I purchased this book to prepare for the ACT.It familiarizes you with exactly what you need for the test. It's excellent for long-term preparation, but you can even use it in a crunch.I flipped through some of the pages the night before I took the ACT and had never opened up the book before, read through some things, and I ended up getting a perfect composite score of 36. You don't need any resource other than this one in preparing for the ACT.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very nice
I guess this book just owns everything else.

3-0 out of 5 stars need more practice!!!
this book had some good ideas, but some, like its methods for taking the writing and reading sections were silly. very silly. also, it definately didnot provide enough practice problems/tests to actually practice using the techniques to ace the act. if i could go back in the past, i definately wouldn't buy this book again. i think from now on, i'll stick with kaplan.

4-0 out of 5 stars Thorough review for the ACT
The Practice tests are a little bit harder than the real ACT tests. The review material is very helpful, in-depth, and easy-to-understand. This book improved my score by 6 points. DONT buy this version with the CD because the software is horrible and the images on the practice tests are distorted.

4-0 out of 5 stars Better Than Kaplan
I have tried both the Kaplan and Princeton review ACT 2006 with CD-ROM. In my opinion, the princeton book is way better than kaplan because it has much more time saving strategies; princeton made me go up 5 points higher. However, the CD that comes with this book is not that helpful and using it has been so cumbersome, i gave up. The kaplan CD, on the other hand, is way easier to use and is much better quality. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars GOOD MATH FORMULAS!
This gets 5 stars, because it has 100 math formulas in the back. Most people will not have to memorize all 100 formulas, because many are already memorized in students' minds!
3-0 out of 5 stars Not exactly the same as the real test.
Well, I was expecting something that would let me gauge the difficulty of the ACTs and the practice tests in this book, didn't really cut it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome reviews on things you'd forgotten along with great tips
I bought this book along with The Real ACT Prep Guide and have found this book to be much more useful. I already understood the basics of the test, but I was looking for something to refresh me on all those little rules I'd forgotten in school. This book did just that. It is a great reviewer, especially in the English and Math sections.
5-0 out of 5 stars It got me into college
The ACT for Dummies is a great ACT study guide. The Math section totally refreshed me and was very valuable when it came to test time. But what really made the ACT for Dummies book so good was that it was full of really cheesy humor. This humor helped keep me reading a book that would otherwise be extremely dull and positively unbearable. I wouldn't be at the University of Michigan without the ACT for Dummies!2-0 out of 5 stars Errors
It's fun to read and it's a good prep.Unfortunately, the practice tests contain several errors. So far, I have only taken the english and the math sections of the first test, and I have found three errors.(And this is only on the first two of eight practice sections!)I have the 3rd Edition and these problems might be different in other editions.Feel free to dispute me.Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars quite helpful, but not just by itself
The book takes a different approach on vocabulary building. Unlike the other test prepration of books I have seen, this book does not present you with list of words to memorize. 2-0 out of 5 stars Just a series of multiple choice tests
I found this book pretty useless. All it is is a series of 16 multiple choice tests in which you choose the answer that most closely approximates the word given. Sample question: amorphous means a) shapeless b) passionate c) property transfer d) vase-like e) parallel. Each test is preceded by very short definitions of the words plus each one used in a context sentence. It would be okay, I guess, as a superficial refresher, but I didn't find it challenging, and there was no discussion of strategy for the GMAT verbal/vocab section, which is more what I was hoping for.

5-0 out of 5 stars Good deal!

4-0 out of 5 stars Some real gems inside these pages
This book is a treasure trove of common sense advice for the college student. If your graduate won't listen to you, buy them the book so they can glean the real gems inside these pages for themselves. If you are a high school student and anxious about college, get a copy and see how success is made.If you are a college student about to tank another semester, grab this to pull yourself out of failure! Not every bit of How to Win will apply to each student, but lots of common sense suggestions are in this book, and even one helpful tip grabbed hold of may be enough to help a student out.Get this for anyone who wants to win at college!

5-0 out of 5 stars OUTSTANDING!!
There are nowadays dozens of books written with the intent on preparing young people for the wonders of life in college or at the university. And although the purchase of any of these would provide an excellent source of advice to success at this level, Cal Newport's collection of 75 tips to excellence stand FAR apart! It is indeed true that many people will not be able to implement every tip into their experience; however, I challenge any college kid to tell me that advice such as "learning to listen" and "caring about your grades, not your GPA" are far too difficult to work into his or her busy schedule. In brief, if you are looking to merely help wear off the shock of transitioning from the environment of family and high school to one of the individual at college, then choose any college book you can find; it's sure to help. However, if you are looking at using these all-too-critical years at the next level to better yourself, then there's no argument: buying HOW TO WIN AT COLLEGE is essential!

4-0 out of 5 stars It's important to note...
The author says in the beginning of the book that a student doesn't have to utilize all 75 tips in order to be a successful student. This is a simple fact that you need to grow accustomed to when reading this book. There is simply not enough time in a day, nor an individual motivated enough to develop every habit he suggests, varying from exercising 5 days a week to relaxing for a good half hour before you go to sleep.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent
Helped my daughter become familiar with how the ACT is worded and what to expect on the exam. Eased some of her anxiety.

1-0 out of 5 stars Horrible
Which is sad because the material is laid out great, but the amount of errors ruins it. There are typos everywhere, SIGNIFICANT typos, such as the wrong sign in an equation or missing punctuation in the answers of the grammar drills. If you do get the book, make sure you do the math for yourself, because you'll catch yourself correcting the book fairly often.

2-0 out of 5 stars Very Worse Course For Time
This book of more than a thousand pages has every topic that could possibly be on the ACT. The topics are explained in a clear, concise manner. But there are so many topics that their explanations are almost too concise: Two or three sentences of explanations are given and a couple of examples. The format of the examples are in a No and Yes format for the English section. The drills in the English section and Science have good explanations with them. But in the Math section, in which work might be needed, there are no explanations, only answers. The Reading section has no explanation either. The diagnostic test and four other tests gives you great explanations for each topic, though.

4-0 out of 5 stars Somewhat informative book for version Act! 2004
I didn't learn too much from this book as I have been using Act! 2004 for a couple years now and have already stumbled across most of the features I need to know.It would be good book for a novice to buy.It is written well and has a user-friendly format.

3-0 out of 5 stars A book on Act 2000
I had been using Act 2000 for a long time, and this year I purchased Act 2005. If you are an Act 2000 fan, it is for you. But the many new options, interface (and bugs) of Act 2005 made this book outdated.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great book for on-the-spot answers
If you, or many people in your organization, use ACT! day-to-day, for general contact management (but you're not trying to "split the atom" with it), than this book is a great, general purpose go-to book for quick, simple, straight-forward answers.

5-0 out of 5 stars How to Prepare for the ACT (Barron's How to Prepare for the Act American College Testing Program Assessment (Book Only))
I am getting ready to take the test so I am confident that OI will pass this test thanks to this book

2-0 out of 5 stars A Dishonest Mistake
I absolutely abhored this book and I regretted buying it. Though the explanation of the English sec. was acceptable, I was mostly upset with the way the explained the math format. They made the simplest concepts having to do with prealgebra or basic algebra more complicated for people who either know it or not. I agree with one of the reviewers who claimed that the questions were harder than questions on the actual ACT. I answered sample English questions online from the ACT's website and I easily got them correct compared to the ones found in the book.

5-0 out of 5 stars A comprehensive study guide and a good value
Barron's is one of many publishers that sells standardized exam study guides.Given what the book contains and its price, 'How to Prepare for the ACT' is probably the best ACT book out there. The student has four opportunities to simulate the entire exam (one diagnostic test and three full 'model' ACT tests).I would recommend using many different resources to study for the ACT, but I would also recommend beginning with this book.It will be a lifesaver for procrastinators. It can also give you an edge over the competition, or at least help you keep up.The ACT can be cracked.Barron's can help the diligent, dedicated student crack the ACT.

5-0 out of 5 stars A MUST HAVE!!!!
THe Princeton Review does it again! I've read several books by them, and never have I been disappointed! They continue to give the student enough information for them to do well (on whatever test the book is written for), without giving too much information to scare the student!
4-0 out of 5 stars Pretty good, but could be better
I had to take the ACT to get into nursing school, so after being out of school for 20 years I picked up this book to help prepare myself.
4-0 out of 5 stars Does it really crack the ACT?
I recently took the ACT test, and I studied Princeton Review's Cracking the ACT. The question is whether or not this book raises the score.
