3-0 out of 5 stars Buyer Beware
An excellent outline for the ACI 89/92 Code. However, it is NOT for the current ACI code!If you are designing with the older version of the Code, this book is great. If you are using the 2002 or 2005 Code, this book is essentially obsolete.
5-0 out of 5 stars Need a replacement
I bought the original first edition in 1980 to prepare for my P.E. exam.As I work very often with concrete design, this book is a must have.I really wore out my old copy (which I had to go to several stores to find back then) and could never find a new one.Thank you Amazon for this opportunity.5-0 out of 5 stars Good for beginners as well as practicing engineers
This is a nice book on reinforced concrete design. Although it aims mainly to students, you will be benefitted even if you are a practicing engineer. It is mainly written on ACI code on both USCS & SI units, but the bookis useful even if you follow some other country's code. It covers all basic& some advanced design concepts. Chapters include - materials, loads, design methods & preocedures, shear, torsion, detailing, servicability, columns, footings, beam, slabs, retaining walls etc. Main asset of the bookis that it is very concise, yet covered almost everythin with a good numberof solved problems. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Good if you've forgotten
This book contains mostly routine exercises of the subject. If you want to dig a bit further and sharpen your skills: try Krasnov's A Book of Problems in Ordinary Differential Equations. Language: English
2-0 out of 5 stars Not up to par with other Schaum's outlines on mathematics
This is one of the more poorly written Schaum's outlines I have encountered. The theory is very murky and the author gives no clear direction as to where he is going with this material and what it all means. PDE is a hard enough subject without working a bunch of meaningless problems that leave you wondering what it is you are supposed to have learned. Instead, I suggest you read "Introduction to Partial Differential Equations with Applications" by Zachmanoglou and Thoe in order to understand the mathematical underpinnings of PDE. Then read "Partial Differential Equations for Scientists and Engineers" to get a thorough feel for how PDE is used to solve real-world problems. Both books usually sell used for under $10 each, making them cost-effective alternatives to this Schaum's outline.

3-0 out of 5 stars Somewhat helpful.
If you're taking a course in PDEs, you should have a copy of this book. In it, you will find a concise review of the theory, followed immediately by many problems with detailed solutions. This book, HOWEVER, IS NOT as good as the Schaum's book for ordinary differential equations, possible because PDE subject matter is far richer than ODE material.

5-0 out of 5 stars Schaum's Outline of Fluid Mechanics and Hydraulics (Schaum's)
It is an excellent condition and delivered on time.
4-0 out of 5 stars Good source of solved problems in fluid mechanics
I am not a mechanical engineer. Instead, I am an electrical engineer who took an undergraduate fluid mechanics class last fall to help with some graphical simulation work I was doing. However, I still had to pass the same examinations and do the same homework as the other students who did have a mechanical engineering background, and I found this outline immensely helpful. This book is an excellent source of problem-solving techniques and exercises for anyone who is taking an undergraduate course in fluid mechanics, which is the branch of science concerned with how fluids behave at rest or in motion. This outline assumes that you are already familiar with statics and with calculus, and it makes heavy use of both subjects. There is not a lot of verbal explanation in this outline. Explanation is done mainly through the introduction of some formulas, and then some completely worked out examples using those formulas. It is not at all dry in its presentation, however, and makes heavy and appropriate use of instructive figures and diagrams. Fluid mechanics is about solving problems, and the most difficult part is analyzing the system and reducing it to a series of equations. Once this has been achieved there are a number of standard methods that can be used to solve them. This book gives a good amount of practice at allowing the student to figure out how to approach larger problems in chapters 8 through 10 - "Flow in Closed Conduits", "Complex Pipeline Systems", and "Flow in Open Channels", and also in the final chapter of the outline "Fluid Machinery". This book is a great companion to Munson's "Fundamentals of Fluid Mechanics", which is the best textbook on the subject that I have encountered.

4-0 out of 5 stars Recommended for Reference/Overview
Like all of the Schaum guides for subjects in Mechanical Engineering, this outline provides a good overview of fluid mechanics, but it doesn't go into a great deal of depth. It's easy to find the equations if you want to usethe book as a reference manual or a study guide, and the problems can serveas a good supplement to an undergraduate class in Fluids. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars This book is crap
Ok, I will be clear that I am not reviewing this exact book, but the purely organic chemistry book that is a 1991 version that I got at the library. I have never actually taken organic chemistry. I was hoping to get a leg up, and this was the only book at the library on it, so I checked it out. And I am finding it terribly lacking in explanation. It is all problems and little explanation. It takes one paragraph and one example to explain something, which isnt enough to cover all aspects of the topic to where one can understand it, then it proceed to give you problems that you cant really work, but you follow through them and try to understand why they work, and most of the time there is a short explanation as to why the answer is the correct one. There are handy little charts here and there that make things a little easy, although it needs more. I have been able to grasp most of the information due to this book, but there are key topics that are recurring that I dont fully understand and it doesnt matter how much I read that one paragraph, I dont fully get it. Afterwards I went online to clear up the discrepencies, and I easily got it. From the review here, it sounds like this book is better than taking the class. I hope that is not the case. But I can tell you from the standpoint of someone that has never studied organic chemistry, but has taken general chemistry, this book is insufficient as a textbook.

5-0 out of 5 stars A didactical masterpiece
I bought this book many years ago and soon I felt it extraordinary. My idea has not changed along years. Clear, comprehensive, readable, even pleasant. You can really learn vector analysis step by step without a teacher. And you learn to use what you learn. All topics about vectors are explored, included differential operators and some differential geometry. It covers also tensor analysis (the last two chapter are on curvilinear coodinates and tensor). In my opinion there is a little more than a mere introduction to this subject. When I began to study tensors, I did't find a book that is completely satisfaying for a beginner. I turned out to my old Spiegel and the light was. Read first the last two chapters of Spiegel when you begin with tensors: you will understand basics concepts and you will avoid troubles. I feel to owe a debt of gratitude to this book and its Author. A true didactical masterpiece.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent stand-alone introduction to vector analysis
I own many Schaum's outlines, and several by Mr. Spiegel, the author of this book. Mr. Spiegel's outlines have always been among the most excellent of the Schaum's outline series and this one is no exception.
5-0 out of 5 stars Great text/reference
Highly important for applied mathematicians, physicists and engineers, if you're taking a course in vector analysis, you should have a copy of this book. In it, you will find a concise, clear review of the theory, followed immediately by many problems with detailed solutions. Semester after semester, my students tell me this Schaum's made a positive difference in their understanding.

4-0 out of 5 stars Pretty good overview of computer architecture
Quite frankly, I was surprised at the usefulness of this Schaum's outline. I didn't think that the Schaum's outline format would work for a subject like computer architecture, but it does. All aspects of computer architecture are covered from computer arithmetic to processor design to memory systems to the advanced topic of multiprocessing. The format of the outline is a little different from the Schaum's usual formula. Each chapter consists of an "Objectives" section, followed by an introduction, followed by the various subsections of that chapter. There are examples and exercises on instruction set design, program design, block diagrams, and quite a few mathematical problems. This book is probably best suited to the advanced undergraduate or for self-study of the subject. If you are a graduate student that is using Hennessy's "Computer Architecture: A Quantitative Approach" the level of difficulty of the mathematical problems in that book is not matched by this one, and you should look for another source. Otherwise I recommend this guide for most students of computer architecture. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars OK If you have the time
Not an awful idea, but customizing these cards for my organic class was a little more than time consuming. I also think it would be more beneficial to make my own. However, as a review, this item is awesome! Great for the GMAT, GRE, or any other graduate level exam.

2-0 out of 5 stars Seems nice, but pretty complex
I bought this under the impression that they were like flash cards that I would make for an exam... containing general ideas, and in the case of organic chemistry, containing example mechanisms. The cards do this, but they also try to do much more.
4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Org Chem review
The orgo card is for reviewing fundamental org chem, NOT a flash card to challenge your memory. The details are sufficient.Explanations are efficient. There's some comparative notes which are refreshing and good for coonecting the dots.Content is chem of functional classes and rxns and mech. Highly recommended for reviewing purpose.

5-0 out of 5 stars A terrific review for the ABSITE
I read this book and my in-training exam score went up by over sixty points. It's not exactly a quick read at over 500 pages, but it's very readable and it contains all the information covered in the ABSITE exam.I highly recommend it as a review book for surgery residents looking to improve their scores.

5-0 out of 5 stars Intense absite review
This book is the first of its kind to prepare you in total for the Absite examination. This book incorporates basic science with the clinical science in order to allow you to review for the tests in a short text version without having to decipher through large textbooks. It has references to O'leary, the basic science book used during my residency, as well as to other major textbooks. This book seems to cut out the redundency of larger books and includes small facts that they love to ask on the exam.A must for those with weak scores or those looking to gain extra points... who isn't. ... 2-0 out of 5 stars Overpriced, misaligned, bloated + boring = 2 stars
I gave this book 2 stars because it's overpriced, misaligned, bloated and quite boring. Lots of time, Kramer used 200 words to explain something when 50 would have been enough. There's alot of minor errors + many cases where the author is completely wrong. The content covers CISA's material but it simply does not match with CISA's domains. If I had to throw a stone to someone, that would be to the editor cos that guy simply did not do his job. There's way too many content errors, spelling mistakes and ambiguous sentences.
1-0 out of 5 stars Obtuse and perhaps worthless
Why use 1 word when 12 will bewilder the reader and make the book that much thicker.I can not believe that a qualified editor reviewed this book.
1-0 out of 5 stars Don't waste your money
I purchased this book -- unfortunately before I read the reviews here -- to prepare for the CISA. Despite the optimistic title, the book fails to deliver in just about every area. The book is not connected to the exam in any logical form or structure. One of the biggest draws for a book like this is the practice test software. Sadly, this book fails yet again. The software works, but the questions in some cases are just plain wrong! I wrote to the editor and they offered me an errata sheet that I could use to spot mistakes in their data???? What good is that? My advice is that you skip this book, avoid this author, and not patronize this publisher since they are not willing to make good on their promises. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Great book for PMP prep
I used this book along with the PMBOK. There are some topics in this books that weren't part of the PMBOK. Studying both these books helped me to pass the exam.

1-0 out of 5 stars Not the best option...
While this book has a number of useful questions, there are also a number of errors throughout the book both in the preparation materials and in the actual questions. I wouldn't start with this book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Passed on my first try
I used this book and the PMBOK and passed on my first try with a 167/200.

2-0 out of 5 stars This book is way too light for this exam
The methodology of the troubleshooting process is the easy part. This book would have been much better if it had broken down the troubleshooting sections for each layer and given you some concrete ideas about the most common things you might see.Definitely, an extensive treatment of debug output with explanations of what to look for would have been good.Bottom line, read the book so you know the methodology, but get another source because this one won't do it.

1-0 out of 5 stars Almost no relation to actual exam
Cisco should be embarassed to call this book 'official self-study test preparation'.Perhaps it should say 'Some basic thoughts'...The relation to the exam I just took was nowhere to be found.I think this book prep'd me for 1 or 2 questions out of 64.I'm totally disgusted.CiscoPress has lost all credibility in my mind. This book is a discrace.
4-0 out of 5 stars Good resource for passing CIT exam
To summarize, this book is focused on troubleshooting methodology. It goes over procedures, guidelines, and methods. It is not intended as a specific blow by blow review of troubleshooting technology - you are assumed to already have this information through studying and job experience. The author is straightforward in his writing and does a good job of boiling down the information, and physically it is considerably thinner than the other study guides.

5-0 out of 5 stars Rewarding Faith and Love will come to you...
EXCELLENT book. I am not the best sometimes at reading nor finishing a book, however this one...I could not put it down. This book was great and she made it very easy to understand. Sometimes the Bible can be a bit hard to understand for some people so they just avoid and don't read. Reading this book will put it all in perspective for you in understanding these great women of the Bible. They all have stories in what you can relate to even in our times now. Its awesome and you will greatly enjoy it and it will greatly strengthen your faith in what God has for you. Its a great book for a womens Bible study group, I highly advise it. Sometimes you don't need all the fancy big books to get what you need out of it....

We purchased this book for our moms' Bible study group and are very disappointed by this book's peppy, shallow nature. For example, the chapters on Sarah's remarkable faith fail to mention Hagar and Ishmael. We will be abandoning our study of this book for one with a more complex and in depth discussion of the triumphs, struggles, and failures of women in the Bible ... I believe this is a good first book for the Security + exam. This exam is not easy needing 85% to pass it. You'll need to read more than just this book, but this is a great starter book. I feel like alot of the information in here was beneficial to me passing the exam, HOWEVER, i would like to recommend the Syngress Security + book to read after compleating this book. Those 2 books combined with a good practice exam should help you pass.
2-0 out of 5 stars Very very dull.
I'm sorry, but this book is an absolute chore to get through. In fact, this book was so uninteresting that I've abandoned trying to take the Security+ exam altogether. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The best of all the NCLEX reviews.
The prime reason I am writing this review is because of the first review which is simply incorrect. I would like to give the author of this book a medal because it is concise, interactive and anyone that goes through the book and does all the exercises, will pass the NCLEX. I took Kaplan (waste of time), ATI (some of the books are good but the DVD are worthless) and the NCLEX-RN made incredibly easy and none of these even come close to Cracking the NCLEX-RN. No I am not related to the author and she is not paying me zip for this review. If she wants to, she can, but it isn't necessary. I like it when I get my money's worth and this book was worth it.
1-0 out of 5 stars Avoid at all costs!
I mostly used the CD-ROM, which was full of errors. It scored things incorrectly, and some questions had the wrong answer as correct- really, really obvious things, such as saying that marbles are a good toy for an 8-month-old baby, or that a bicarb level of 116 is low! It was poorly formatted and just overall a horrible experience. I wasted my money.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent source
I have just passed my NCLEX-RN exam last December 2003. This book is a very good source as a review material in preparation to your incoming NCLEX-RN exam. The illustrated images makes it easier to understand. It helped me pass my NCLEX-RN exam, I'm sure it would help you too!!! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Just the best book for self study and review
This book can help an alien to math understand a calculus concept.

2-0 out of 5 stars Good as supplemental text book, NOT good as primary textbook
There are not enough examples to explain everything you would need to know.I've found I had to go to the web or other more basic Calculus books many times to try to solve some of the problems in there. There are better books out there for those of us looking for complete breakdown of the problems and better explanations.

5-0 out of 5 stars An excellent introduction and review of Calculus ......
I trudge back to this book again and again, being embarassed at having forgotten some basic idea or technique. This is an excellent supplemental text to a formal Calculus textbook like "Calculus " by Stewart. The writing is lucid and ideas are explained with the novice in mind. I find that reading this book first BEFORE getting into a meatier textbook helps me understand the material.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent prep guide
I have experimented with a lot of the preparation guides for the Physics portion of the MCAT, and I found this book to be an excellent guide. What I liked most about it was how the author has a general discussion of major concepts, and then follows each chapter with a quiz on the topics. I found that the questions, though a little easier than the real MCAT, accurately mirrored the type of reasoning and thinking behind real MCAT questions. Unlike Kaplan and Princeton Review, which overemphasize the need for quantitative calculations, I found that this book rightly emphasized concepts. This book does a fantastic job of allowing the student to get a real idea of what MCAT questions are like, and simulataneously, acts as a great concept reinforcer. I would not use this book alone to prepare for the MCAT, but it certainly does an exceptional job of laying down the concepts.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good review
I appreciate the humor which Biehle brings to the subject- the review he provides is quite thorough.I would have liked to have seen some combination concept passages (e.g. thermodynamics, fluids, and work-energy in one passage) because I feel that is the direction that the MCATs are heading in- but overall I am really satisfied with this purchase.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great review...

5-0 out of 5 stars Helped me pass the Security +
This book is covers the topic of Security in depth. It is very methodical in how it presents the material and it was a huge part of my success during the exam. I passed with an 813
4-0 out of 5 stars In depth look at Security
This was the 3rd book I used to study for the Security+ exam. I started with the Mike Meyers book for security+, which was a good starting point for anyone just starting out on the subject and it's concepts. I then moved to the Sybex book.
3-0 out of 5 stars Good, but problems
First of all, I passed the test with a 784 first try using only this book as study material and nothing else, so I have to recommend it.Although, it helped that I already had A+, MCSE, and CCNA certifications under my belt. The book is an excellent source of information and should be central to your Security+ study plan.
