2-0 out of 5 stars Summary with no meat
The book is simply a summary outline of the material for the CFP test, which can easily be obtained on the Board's website. Without sufficient detail, I can not imagine how it could be helpful.
2-0 out of 5 stars You get what you pay for...
Just took the CFP exam yesterday.I'm a quick study, have been in the industry a while, am a CLU/ChFC, so I hoped I could find a condensed study guide that would serve to refresh my memory and allow me to skate through. I'm CHEAP too, so I was hoping I could save some $$$ by not enrolling in a review course.

4-0 out of 5 stars American Government
This book gives a clear, factual overview of the governmental system and institutions in the US. Very helpful especially for foreigners and beginners who want to know more about how the US governmental system works.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good basic review of American government
I read this book for the CLEP test but I also supplemented it with a college textbook.I wouldn't recommend someone take the CLEP after reading just this book, it is just too basic.Read this book and supplement itwith a textbook for key areas and you'll easily pass the test.

3-0 out of 5 stars Several exercises
This book have a several exercises.
5-0 out of 5 stars Good for Fourier analysis and much more
This Schaum's outline is unique in that you not only get a thorough coverage of Fourier analysis, but of other orthogonal functions such as Bessel, Legendre, Hermite, and Laguerre. The first chapter would be interesting to students of partial differential equations because of its excellent treatment of boundary value problems and of the different types of partial differential equations. It makes an interesting first taste of PDE solution methods. Chapter two is a traditional treatment of Fourier series and its applications. As in the first chapter, it is the applications that make the chapter unique as the Fourier series is used to solve problems in heat flow, Laplace's equations, and vibrating systems. Chapter three has a good discussion of why you would actually care if a function is orthogonal. Chapter four discusses special functions and how they are evaluated. Chapters five and six are all about applications of the Fourier integral and of the Bessel function respectively. Chapter seven uses the Legendre functions to solve problems such as finding the potential interior and exterior to a sphere given a specific charge distribution. Chapter eight finishes the guide with a discussion of Hermite and Laguerre polynomials, more from a properties standpoint than from an applications standpoint. The reader of this guide should already be knowledgeable of Calculus and differential equations, and should probably have some kind of background in physics or engineering to get the most from the book. It would be a good supplement for the student of partial differential equations or signal processing as well as the student of Fourier analysis. I think what really sets this book apart is its ability to act as a stand-alone guide to the student with the required prerequisites and to actually to inspire you to study applied mathematics more. As for my own story, I picked up a previous edition of this book 17 years ago for a coworker that thought it might be helpful in a class he was taking. He decided he didn't want it and so I began thumbing through it. I found the applications sections to be so interesting and inspiring that I wound up going back to graduate school and eventually picked up three master's degrees! If you like this Schaum's outline, you might also want to pick up "Schaum's Outline of Advanced Mathematics for Engineers and Scientists" by the same author. It is also full of mathematics inspired by real world problems in need of solution.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great study aid
Fourier analysis is behind so much science and engineering you should work hard to master the topic.I strongly recommend this book to my students as it supplies them with tons of sample problems and solution. What I like about the book is that only a few pages of theory are presented in each chapter, immediately followed by detailed example problems. You should try to work out the problems first before peeking at the solutions though.

5-0 out of 5 stars Easy reading for a complex subject
I've many books about tensors and this one is the best one to start learning such a difficult subject. It does not omit the things that are assumed you must know. It explains everything, even the simplest things in a easy way. However, you should know vector analysis and multidimensional calculus in order to understand the complex things in the last chapters.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great stand alone text
If you're taking a course in tensors, or need to pick up the subject matter for a physics course, you should have a copy of this book. In it, you will find a concise review of the theory, followed immediately by many problems with detailed solutions. Throughout the years, my students have given positive feedback on about this Schaum's, and I myself use it as a reference from time to time.
1-0 out of 5 stars An evergreen book
It's a pity Amazon doesn't declare the age of books that sells (date of edition).

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent
Using this book I passed the CBEST without any problems, some of the problems on the CBEST were exactly like the ones in the book.

1-0 out of 5 stars This book is way out of date. It no longer applies to CBEST
I took the CBEST on June 17, 2006 and I can tell you that after vigorously reading and absorbing all that I could from this book Cracking the CBEST Ed. 2 (I studied it for about 4 weeks), that the information is FAR out of date. The current CBEST has far more complex math problems and critical analysis questions, and the POE (Process of Elimination) explained by the author is simply not applicable to any significant degree to helping you with this test. The answers (A through E) examples given in the book do not come even CLOSE to the actually level of difficulty I encountered in trying to eliminate possibly incorrect answers.
5-0 out of 5 stars best test preparation book on CBEST !
To get the most of your time and money while preparing for your cbest, this is the book you need to have! Its written in a clear language, concise, and gives in depth knowledge for what you are looking for.writing part, maths part and the reading part , you get a strategy to solve all the parts , its difficulty level is the same as the CBEST.. no need to lok for another books out there. But if you want more practice test then i would definely recommend the Cilffs, it has 4 practice tests.. so you get a picture where you stand. Good luck for your CBEST. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Dr. Bill
I am private math SAT tutor and a math professor at a top tier university in New England, and I recommend this book without reservation. The problems are thorough and serve as an excellent refresher for the types of problems found on the new SAT 1 math portions.
5-0 out of 5 stars Very good and comprehensive
This book is a very fine book to study in preparation for the New SAT I. I've studied MANY different SAT books as a student. This book offers problems that may be given on the SAT's that I have not seen in other books. There are all levels of difficulties also. There is no "fluffy" pages with wordy explanations. Its explanations and summaries of every topic is concise and understandable. A major plus of this book is that it offers MANY math problems of every subject covered on the SAT I. (the key way in getting a higher score is being exposed to many types of problems and becoming familiar with them through repeated exercises)Each page of this book is worth its money.

5-0 out of 5 stars A No-Nonsense Book that willBoost Your SAT I Math Score
If you are looking for an SAT I math text geared to the new 2005 SAT with enough practice problems to sink a battleship, this is it.The book has accurate, succinct reviews of the SAT's key math concepts including all of the new topics starting with the March 2005 administration of the exam.No superfluous page-wasting garbage like in Up Your Score or SATs for Dummies. The meat of this book is problem after problem organized by topic so you can focus on your weak areas. The only real way to improve your SAT math score is to work through a truckload of problems in order to gain speed and confidence in your problem-solving skills.Notwithstanding the claims of the internet quick-buck artists anxious to sell you the "SAT secrets" and take your money, there are no short-cut gimmicks to boost your scores.Problem solving techniques such as substituting variables and backsolving can be useful, but Princeton Review and the other test prep companies dramatically OVERSTATE their usage. They are time-consuming and backsolving often can't be used on the more difficult questions. The sad reality is that the best way to smoke SAT I math is to know your stuff-- and this book delivers.By the way, I am not a student.I am a consistent 99th percentile scorer who owns a math learning center and tutors SAT I Math as part of my curriculum. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Great for studying for COMPASS math placement test
Although this would also make a nice supplement for college students taking Precalculus, it really shines as a test preparation manual for students preparing to take the COMPASS math placement test that is required in many junior colleges. It starts with very basic material on the sets of numbers used in algebra, axioms for the real number systems, and precedence of operators and then moves on to cover everything that you should have seen in two years of high school algebra, trigonometry, and analytical geometry. Plus it even has a few chapters at the end on solving systems of linear equations and even some material on partial fraction expansion.
5-0 out of 5 stars A must for the pre-calculus student
I teach lots of math classes, and one of the things my students are always hungry for is more worked out examples. You will find tons of sample problems with detailed solutions in this easy to read Schaum's outline. As always, please try to work out the problems yourselves first, BEFORE peeking at the answers.

1-0 out of 5 stars Why bother?
Just do qbank or qbook. Don't buy, don't borrow, don't waste your time.

2-0 out of 5 stars okay study book
This question book is an okay review of subjects if you perfer a Q/A format way of learning. However, the question format and style of questions are not similar to the USMLE Step 3.There are few Negative questions (eg. all of the following except) in the USMLE Step 3 and at the most, there are 3 questions following a passage (In NMS, there can be up to 6-7 questions following a passage).I found the NMS review to be too detailed (like questions we see in Step 1 and 2- eg) indirect inguinal hernias are medial to what structure.....)
5-0 out of 5 stars Great review book....
I'll admit, I made a mistake.I decided to hold off taking Step 3 until two months before my pediatric residency was finished.Back then, it wasn't required to maintain your residency in this state. So you can imagine, after nearly 3 years of pediatric medicine, how far removed I was from a lot of adult medical issues.I used two books, this one and "Crush step 3."Both were definitely helpful, but I felt this one by far helped me the most.Sure the question formats are not exactly like the real test. But Q and A style studying tends to make me retain the information much better than just passive reading. The explanations are quite thorough and the difficulty of the questions were just about the same for the real test.NMS has always been good to me when taking the previous two steps of the USMLE, and they didn't let me down with step 3. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars A great source of review problems
You couple this book with Griffith's text on electromagnetism and you can't go wrong.Using Griffith's great explanations and the ample supply of worked out problems in this Schaum's outline, you will be able to teach yourself all important subject matter.
2-0 out of 5 stars Too Brief!
It appears that the author assumes readers will already have a good understanding of calculus, vectors, and a somewhat advanced knowledge of electrostatics and electromagnetism! Readers without this background will likely struggle with the material!
4-0 out of 5 stars Useful and practical Electronic Book
Electromagnetism is a hard subject for many people, including myself.Schaums Outline of Electromagnetics, by Edminister, is an outstanding collection of problems and solutions more even when a companion in Electromagnetics using Mathcad, the leading technical calculation software. The big advantage of the interactive Outline is its use of LiveMath. You can change the starting parameters of a problem and watch as graphs are calculated in front your eyes.

5-0 out of 5 stars Seems to work for me
I'm studying for the GRE's and taking the Princeton Review class in conjunction to listening to the CD.These disks contain several words that are also in the Hit Parade lists that we get from class.Hearing the words, meanings, and sentences using the words really help to learn them. They group the words based in similarity in meanings to help you learn.First, they give you the words, meanings, and use them in sentences. Then they follow by a story using the words. Then they say the words, with a pause so you can think about the definition, and then give you the definition and use the word in a sentence.I've definitely been using the new vocabulary more and more in my everyday speech.I wish Princeton Review would do something like this for ALL of the words from the Hit Parade and Beyond the Hit Parade lists. The only other really effective way I've found to really learn the words is to do a google search of each word, and just see how they're used in context.

1-0 out of 5 stars NO FEATURES (eg words)ARE LISTED!How can make a decision to buy?
I am quite interested in this product, but WITHOUT a list made available on line of the words covered, I am not going to buy this. I dont want to buy this and find out I know most of them! So PUBLISHERS BEHOLD: if you want to really sell this product you've gotta let us know WHAT FEATURES (e.g. words)IT HAS. This is sales 101. Best, Jimmy.

5-0 out of 5 stars Fun Way to Expand Your Vocabulary
This sets contains 5 CDs, each one goes over about 50 words.Good number of the words on these recordings seem to be on a high-school level, though.

1-0 out of 5 stars Too many errors
i cannot believe the amount of incorrect math in this book. and that no one bothered to check it before they published it

1-0 out of 5 stars no so good, don't buy this book!!
I am studying calculus currently in my ap class. I bought this book. And I found out there are many misprints and errors there.

1-0 out of 5 stars Should be called "1 Step to a 1"
Avoid this review book.I am a teacher of Calculus, and I am going to teach AP Calculus next year.Unlike most students who need to review, I already know the material 100%.I was SHOCKED by the amount of errors and misprints that are in this book.If you are a student who doesn't know Calculus that well, you are going to think that YOU are the one making errors, but it is the book that is wrong.I contacted the publisher, and they have yet to give me a decent response.I feel this book should be pulled from the shelves. They should title it "1 Step to a 1", and the one step is to buy this book. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Want a high score? You still might not want this book
The fact that this book contains a formidable 15 exams, dwarfing its competitors in the sheer number of tests offered, alone makes this book a valuable purchase for somebody seeking a VERY high score on the Math IIC.If your target score is not above a 750, this is not the book for you.I am a very good math student and could not finish a single exam, and my highest score was a 700 flat.I highly recommend buying this book in tandem with Kaplan Math IIC.Kaplan is notoriously easier than Barrons or Princeton (neither of which are as hard as this).Do as many Meylani tests as you can, then with 5 days before the exam, do a few Kaplan exams to get your confidence up, as Kaplan is largely accurate to the actual exam.Using the Meylani was very helpful to me, and made the actual exam seem significantly easier than it would have been otherwise.

5-0 out of 5 stars Overprep but smart and very helpful
This book makes you feel as if you are about to have a heart attack while doing the tests. But on the test day you feel very confident when you see the real questions and you start to ask yourself, "Hey, will the hard questions ever show up?" Your scores and timing should not discourage you while doing the tests in this book (my highest score was 680 but I still managed to get my 800). Here is a hint, the easy questions in this book are the standard ones you will be seeing in the real test. There will be only two - three questions similar to the ones in this book. Nevertheless, my advice is to go over all questions and their solutions. And, the way this book overpreps you is better than other's, especially the Barron's one.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Prep for 2C.
There are 15 tests in this book, they are hard but they have prepared me very well for the real test. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars A sip of Calculus
This book is barely a review, all it does is state the core concepts. You will neither understand nor be able to use much of what you learn to do in this book, except perhaps the limits section. I'd rather use this as a reference guide than as an outline. For a better outline which presents you with a better background before you delve deep into the topic of Calculus and explains topics and gives you an insight on the theorems, get Schaum's outline of Calculus. Otherwise, get this as a last resort.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Supplement to Your Thick Calc Textbook
I would not of survived Calculus I without this handy little book. For a quick review and as a study guide, you cannot beat this little book when compared to your 900 page textbook.

5-0 out of 5 stars An excellent quick reference
I bought this slim little book when I was first taking Calculus in High School. It helped me immensely with learning and studying Calculus, and provided a great refresher come test time.Since then, I have sometimes needed a formula, and this manual has again been very useful.Calculus is one of those things you forget if you don't use it, and I was in danger of forgetting it when I took a Physics class which required a basic knowledge of Calculus. Thanks in part to this little book, I was able to brush up on the subject and be prepared for my class, though it has been several years since I first learned Calculus in High School and I have had little occasion to use it since.Read more
