4-0 out of 5 stars Still enough to pass the CISSP
I sat for and passed the CISSP test in January 2006.I used the following resources to help in passing the CISSP:
5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent CISSP Book and CDROM - Highly Recommended.
Dear All, I recently completed my CISSP review studies, passed the exam, and completed the CISSP endorsement process. This is a very worth while endeavor and, as someone with many years of Internet security and risk management experience, I highly recommend the CISSP certification process for everyone.Reviewing the 10common bodies of knowledge (CBK) has value for everyone in the IT business and I am very pleased to have taken the time to review the material and complete the exam. For my self-study review, I purchased four books via Amazon: (1) The CISSP Pre Guide - Gold Edition by Ronald L. Krutz and Russell Dean Vines, (2) All-In-One CISSP Exam Guide, Third Edition by Shon Harris, (3) Official(ISC)2 Guide to the CISSP Exam by Susan Hansche, John Berti and Chris Hare, and (4) CISSP Certified Information Security Professional Training Guide by Roberta Bragg. Each of these texts came with a CDROM for practicing test questions on a Windows PC and covered the 10 CISSP CBKs. I found the first three CISSP books in my list to be helpful. Of those three, the most helpful was The CISSP Prep Guide- Gold Edition by Krutz and Vines. This book is concise, well written, and easy to read. The CDROM is excellent and nearly error free. The text is well thought out and informative. I also recommend Shon Harris' book, with reservation. I found it hard to get to the required CISSP information, at times, due to the attempts at humor in the book. The CDROM of sample test questions were also very good, albeit not as rich in features as the book by Krutz and Vines. The Official(ISC)2 Guide to the CISSP Examby Susan Hansche, John Berti and Chris Hare was a disappointment. This book read just like a cut-and-paste from the Internet and other documents; and the companion CDROM was full of errors and omissions. After a while I stopped using this text book and focused on the first two.I am sorry to say that CISSP Certified Information Security Professional Training Guide by Roberta Bragg was a complete disappointment from every perspective. The CDROM example tests were riddled with errors and omissions. For those interested in my self-study technique, I took each book and studied one (sometimes two) of each of the CBK chapters each day. Then, I repeated the same process for each of the other books, except for the book by Bragg, which was dropped for reasons mentioned. I took all the sample tests repeatedly, before and after and then again.I must have practiced between 4000-5000 sample questions. It was challenging and enjoyable. In summary, I highly recommend Krutz and Vines and also recommend, with reservation, the book by Shon Harris. No single book can cover the entire CBK of the CISSP. The more you study, the better.Best of luck on your CISSP studies. The CISSP is certainly an experience that will improve your knowledge of the field of IT security and benefit the profession at-large.

5-0 out of 5 stars Goes into details
This is a great book. Unlike many other CISSP books, the book goes into details of each topic. For example, chapter 2 of the books provide great details on the Kerberos Protocol, and describes it better that any other CISSP book. The description was so good that it reminded of university days, when we had to learn various algorithm/protocols inside-out. I would recommend this book to anyone. http://validate.sf.net ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Great reference and/or supplement for a standard text
I used this book as a quick REFERENCE when I worked at a trading floor, but if you're taking an advanced business statistics class, then I recommend that you buy a copy of this book. In it, you will find a concise, clear review of the theory, followed immediately by many problems with detailed solutions. Nothing is worse than in a math class than getting hung up on some idea during the semester. You will fall behind and probably not catch up. Semester after semester, my students tell me this Schaum's made a positive difference in their understanding.
5-0 out of 5 stars It got me through Econometrics
This was an extremely useful book for the understanding of Statistics and Econometrics. Each topic had examples to show how the formulas work. The computer chapter went over the programming in SAS, Excel, and Eviews for the problems in the book.Best of all, the problems had answers. This is a must-have for beginning statistics and econometrics since it starts from scratch, and for theory students in search of an application. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Different is not always bad
When I saw this book in the store, I had the same thought as previous reviewers.I thought that I would rather have actual cards instead of words in a book. But it actually works pretty well for me.The book is designed such that you fold the corner of a page when you master the word. So, after I complete a certain number of words, I go back through them randomly, skipping some, but always going over the pages that are not folded.
2-0 out of 5 stars an okay product, but not as efficient as it could be
I purchased last year's edition, where you bought an entire book (the same size as a regular GRE review book) which had nothing but pages full of pull-apart flashcards. I much prefered that format as you could actually tear the cards out and have small flashcards with all of the information on them. I do not like the flipbook method of studying vocabulary becuase then you begin to remember paterns, not definitions.

2-0 out of 5 stars Not very efficient
As other reviews have said, the "flipbook" method is just entirely inefficient when it comes to memorizing words. Even back in elementary school when I was using flashcards, I realized my brain often does not memorize the word itself as much as the order, and with this book it is no different. Also, the two words per page is kind of annoying, and I just don't see why they could not just give us normal, real flashcards. They are so much more efficient! Overall I really would not recommend this. It's too bad there really aren't any good GRE flashcards for sale; Thankfully it won't really matter after next summer when the GRE changes to be more about actual verbal intelligence and less about memorizing words that hardly anyone uses... ... 2-0 out of 5 stars too vague
I was really disappointed by this book.It lacked in explanations and examples.Too short to be benefitual.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great "Review" Book
This book is the 2nd Algebra book that I bought. I am the type of person who goes beyond what is given to me. This book is a great book for review purposes. I am over half way through the year in Algebra 1 and already know how to do everything that will be taught to me by the end of the year. I have really learned a lot from these books and I will say, that this is a great book for anyone that is studying Algebra.

5-0 out of 5 stars It Really Helps!
I have only bought this book for learning and for studying before I am gonna go back to school, but I have learn a lot from it! I really explains clearly enough so you can understand what it is talking about or you can do it after its example. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Good book for a central study guide
I bought this book along with the 'Exam Cram 2 Security+.' I found All-in-One to be a great book as a central reference guide. I went though this book taking notes in another notebook - basically taking the meat out of the 600pg book for later studying. I felt that reading it was important as well, since Gregory White provides several examples and good explanations that later provide a solid base for further studying.
5-0 out of 5 stars Dr. White Gets it Right
I used Dr. White's All-in-One guide as my primary text for the Security+ exam, and I passed on Monday with a score of 868 out of 900 (96.4%)
3-0 out of 5 stars Book 1 of your 1 - 2 punch
I read this book all the way through last month, just for the heck of it (I'll read any security book). Some chapters seemed too lightweight for exam prep, others (such as the chapters on crypto and PKI) were excellent.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good portable reference for professionals or graduate students
This is a pretty helpful Schaum's outline, in that most of the mathematical tables and formulas that an undergraduate math student would need are included. Material from geometry, calculus, differential equations, numerical methods, special functions and transforms, and probability and statistics are included. Plus, there are some examples of how to perform some types of calculations. There is even a section on calculating compound interest and the value of an annuity for those students of financial mathematics. Also, it is much easier than lugging around the infamous 2600 page "CRC Handbook of Mathematics and Physics." Of course, there are tradeoffs. This book has mathematical tables and formulas only, there are no physics equations.
4-0 out of 5 stars Schaum's Mathematical Handbook Review
The book has many differential and integrals that are not in my Calculus Textbook.Plus, it has formulas and equations from algebra, geometry, trignometry, and much more.I wish I had had this when I was in high school.

5-0 out of 5 stars Invaluable Reference!
If you're as big a fan of the Schaum's "Outline Series" as I am, and are a science/math student (or a working professional), you REALLY need to add this one to your library! Just as one should have a good one-volume encyclopedia (hint: The New Columbia Encyclopedia), and a good dictionary that doesn't require a fork-lift (hint: Oxford Encyclopedic English Dictionary). All those arcane, mind-emulsifying formulas and identities and equalities from geometry, trigonometry, calculus, probability & statistics that your professors blithely expected you to memorize (and which you just-as-blithely FORGOT when the semester ended!) are ALL collected here. About a half-inch thick (278pp, including an index!), and VERY comprehensive. More than just a compendium of formulas and tables, it offers many terrific explanations and illustrations. No more digging through your old textbooks (you DID keep them, didn't you? Yeah, right). Quick! What's the Euler-Maclaurin Summation formula? How do you determine the area of an ellipse? You DO remember those special indefinite integrals involving a(x^2)+ bx + c, don't you?

5-0 out of 5 stars Basic Physics: A Self-Teaching Guide
I found this book very helpful in preparing for my teacher certification test to teach high school science. It helped me recall many physical concepts that I had studied in college years ago.The book is written in language that is easy to understand. The fill-in-the-blank format helps to reinforce ideas. This is an excellent book.

2-0 out of 5 stars Could have been much better
My main problem with this book is that the answers are stated directly below the exercises, forcing you to either try to cover up the answers with a bookmark or sheet of paper, or consciously try to not look at the answers, which is distracting. This format makes the book feel more like a trivia quiz than a book about a serious academic subject. Though the book throws some rudimentary equations at the reader, it doesn't explain them clearly enough. Overall, I felt the whole idea of the book was to rush the reader through the subject matter rather than giving the reader a meaningful knowledge of the fundamentals of physics. This book initially appealed to me because it was cheap, but trust me, you're better off paying the premium for a real textbook.

5-0 out of 5 stars I liked it, it is what the title says, although a bit skinny
I liked the book. It's very simple, quite organised. I belive it has about 23 chapters. Starts with velocity, speed, gravity, weight, then goes to more advanced areas for example waves, particles, etc. Sometimes it gives the background of a discovery. Newton liked to make people sad, I think I remember. It has the regular Einstein is the greatest mind of all times. I think it tries to explain the E=MC2 that everybody knows and few understand it.

4-0 out of 5 stars I liked using the book
Yes, there were typos here and there but overall the information the book provided was great. It helps you analyze information so itdoesn't review almost every event in US history, it gives you a nice overview of the most important events that will most likely be used when writing the DBQ or free-responses. The questions at the end of each chapter were good to use because they seemed as if they were extracted from a previous AP exam. I believe that this is a good review book for incoming AP students. I received my score the other day and I did get a 5 so I believe the book helped my score along with my hard efforts in class.

2-0 out of 5 stars Typos abounded.
I didn't like this book at all. The typos kept throwing my mind off--they needed a proofreader DREADFULLY.
3-0 out of 5 stars Good for review, not for learning...too many typos
This book is excellent for review. It brings up the major topics, and does a good job at putting them in context. The practice tests are excellent, and the questions at the end of the chapters are good too.It does a good job with its section at the end of each chapter that says "To get a 5, you should be able to discuss..."It doesn't go into enough detail if you don't already know the material, though. Also, the book is filled with typos.

5-0 out of 5 stars Don't bother with other brands of PSAT guides
I orginally bought The Kaplan and Princeton Review guides together this summer. Until about three weeks before the test the only book i had gone through of the two was the Princeton Review, which i had completed while watching TV one night. It had some ideas, but truely it wasn't anything i couldn't have figured out myself. When i took a practice test at school one day, i did really poorly, had trouble with the Read Comphresnion questions, i couldn't finish that many math problems, and overall struggling. So i went home and found this book, the point of the wookbook is to help you get a better score. It taught me how to break down the two article read comphernsions. Everything in this book is useful, even the english section which i was already confident in. There is alot of coverage on all sections, so it's really up to you if you need more work some sections than others. Also another quality i like is there are practice problems in the lessons, so you don't have to pull out a pratice test and check the answers after each chapter. Seriously if your looking for a PSAT guide there isn't anything better than Kaplan. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Good concept, but missed the target.
Grammar is boring, frustrating, and complex. At least, that's the impression I got from taking it in school. This book attempts to take a fun (well, not-so-boring) approach to explain it all... And for the most part it does well. It's concise, and the examples are good. Where things fall apart is when the book refers to parts of grammar that haven't been explained yet.For example, starting with Quick Quiz #8 (page 25), the reader is asked to identify prepositional phrases, but phrases and clauses aren't covered until page 59. Naturally, you'll miss a lot of the questions. The answers to the quizzes seldom have explanations. If an answer seems to contradict a grammar rule or just not make sense, you're left hanging. Discouraging? You bet. If you were confused by grammar in school, this book may help -- but don't expect it to answer all your questions or eliminate frustration with the topic.

5-0 out of 5 stars EXCELLENT
This is book is great. It is well organized, complete, and simply written. The exercises provide great practice. It also highlights common grammatical mistakes that always show up on examinations. You can read this book in one day and understand what you've read.

5-0 out of 5 stars Study Guide for Come Into My Trading Room: A Complete Guide to Trading
Alex is steadfast on discipline and organization, absolutely required for success. His market knowledge is sound and his experience real. I have successfully used his Triple-Screen method for 25 years. His books are great because they help the trader find his own style and if you can't create variations on his work to suit yourself you are not there yet - read them again!

5-0 out of 5 stars One of the most usefull studyguide I have ever seen...
Above all the 2nd part of this StudyGuide is usefull and excellent, with many charts with entry/exit points.
4-0 out of 5 stars His first book was better.
His first book, "Trading for a Living", was the most profound information on the mindset of trading that I have ever seen. This book is more about risk management and trade entry/exit.Good stuff, but not unique. He mostly talks about stock trades, but says that he makes most of his money in the futures markets, using the same methods.I disagree with his use of Bollinger Bands. He teaches entering a trade when a stock pulls into the midpoint of the Bollingers.

2-0 out of 5 stars Too general and not ideal for a single review source
I just took the RICA exam and used this book as well as course material to prepare for the exam. I found "Ready for RICA" lacking in its depth and context. It provides a consice overview of the content areas but lacks in its review of strategies. I also noticed it focused too much on elementary compentency and not enough on higher grades or ELD.
5-0 out of 5 stars Big Help
I found this book to be very well-organized, clear and concise.I read it cover to cover and passed the RICA on my first attempt.I looked at several other review books and found the style and framework of this book most helpful. It certainly doesn't replace a knowledge of basic reading instruction, but it will help you organize your thoughts, develop a strategy for the exam, and be successful.

5-0 out of 5 stars It worked
It had been years between the time I took a reading course and the time I took the Rica test.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great
I found this book very helpful. Sybex books are straight to the point. I prefer Sybex Study Guides over Microsoft Press.

5-0 out of 5 stars introduction to the practice of statistics
the book was in excellent condition, and it arrived on time.

5-0 out of 5 stars A great choice for a high school (AP) statistics course
I am a teacher of AP Statistics (since its inception in 1997) with a master's degree in statistics.I agree with many of the previous reviews that this is NOT a mathematical statistics textbook. If you need a textbook that goes through the mathematics, especially the theory, behind the statistics then you need to look at another textbook. This book was designed for a statistics course for non-mathematicians (especially students with no Calculus background), which is why it is not terse and it has lots of repetitive problems.I have used four different textbooks for AP Statistics as a teacher and this is the only one I have ever used that got consistent rave reviews from my students. For a high school student with only Algebra II or pre-Calculus as a background, this is a very readable and easy to follow textbook, as opposed to other AP Stat textbooks which incorporate too much of the theory for this level of student. Many of my students have told me that this was the only math textbook that they have ever been able to read, and understand, on their own.

5-0 out of 5 stars Introduction To The Practice of Statistics
I am very happy with this book, I needed it for a class. The price was much cheaper than the bookstore at school and it was in excellent condition ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars As good as you can get for a dry subject
This is one of the better study aids, but as with all study aids it is boring to read.It may just be me, but I hate to read anything like this, but I have to keep my certs. It is up to date with the latest verion of the test and very informative. It will make a great companion to use along side the bigger complete CCNA test prep books and also to use in the field when you need to remember those odd commands.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent book for CCNA
it is an excellent book for your preparation for the CCNA.it is also very useful for the memorizing the commands that most used in the router confiruation in your job.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good Resource
This is a good resource to study with for the CCNA.It contains almost all of the commands that should be known for the test, and then some. All I can say is watch out for $9.00 shipping charges if you buy used! Don't "one click shop" it as you will agree to these shipping charges without seeing them like I did. ... Read more
