4-0 out of 5 stars Solid review
I used this for board recertification and I do think it was very helpful and would strongly recommend it. My trivial complaints: 1) The wording of some of the questions was fantastically convoluted. Fortunately the board exam questions were straight forward and did not require sentence diagramming. 2) There is tremendous variability in difficulty between chapters. 3) They should jettison the humor as it is forced, unfunny and as a result of stopping and thinking, "Oh , yeah, I haven't heard that one today," slows down the text. 4) I really hated the political and politically correct commentary.

5-0 out of 5 stars Definitely Worth Buying and All You Need
I used this book to prepare for the Board Exam this year (2006) and found it to be exremely helpful, not only to pass the exam but also as a means of obtaining some really useful information for clinical practice. For instance, it provided a terrific approach to evaluating a patient with kidney stone disease. It really clarified the type of workup one should do and the various medical options for preventing a recurrence, something I had yet to see presented effectively. It was also funny at times and I would encourage the editors to include more humor. The only criticism I have is that it sometimes reviewed topics that are too specialized for family doctors and what we need to know both for the exam and for our practice. Some questions that are asked would be ones that only a subspecialist would/should know.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent!
Love the format of explainations after every question. After reviewing my in-service exams I found the topics and information very similar.I would definitely buy it again. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Sybex Rocks
Sybex rocks, Mike Myers is also very well written but they don't have the entire book in pdf format or any format for that matter. That makes studying easier. Now all they are missing is to get off their Bill Gates paranoia and let you print from the pdf. Overall it's a great study guide. Five stars would mean I could print the pdf.

5-0 out of 5 stars Helpful
This book has a lot of really useful information. I highly recommend it if you know nothing of computers. I know a lot of computers, being a computer technician, but this book talks about stuff I would have never figured out.

3-0 out of 5 stars Cut out the fluff, and beef up the O/S Technologies
I passed both exams relying solely on this book. However, I nearly tanked on the O/S test b/c the book just barely covers Windows XP, which accounts for 60% of the O/S exam (directly or indirectly). And, like someone else pointed out, I would have certainly failed had I not had 5+ years in IT behind me.If you are inexperienced or not sure about yourself, don't rely on this book due to the complex nature of Windows XP.You'll do fine with the hardware, although there is a lot of fluff that would waste your time. For the O/S part though,Windows XP *should* have had its own section in the book with a detailed discussion.Since, this book failed to do it, not to mention the many typos and logical errors of a critical nature, the only recourse for the unfortunate Comptia A+ candidate is to dole out some additional cash for a book dedicated to Windows XP.

3-0 out of 5 stars science questions too easy
took my DAT this past week and this did not improve my score. The General Science questions in the tests were much easier than the actual DAT. Perhaps the questions were old.Reading Comp was good

4-0 out of 5 stars All these reviews are pretty accurate!
I read other reviews and decided to purchase this item. I must say that all of the reviews were pretty accurate. It was a wonderful tool, it had some problems (ex: wrong answer to a couple of questions), but was pretty true to the actual form of the DAT. Word up.

4-0 out of 5 stars TopScore DAT software
If you're going to prepare for the DAT, purchasing this software is still a good idea. However, please be aware of certain weaknesses of this software, as there are some: 1) After taking the real DAT, I realized the science sections of this software were more difficult, partly due to the highly specific nature of the questions. 2) I noted that there were an annoying number of incorrect answers on the PAT sections of this test. A portion of the sample questions were clearly variations of those on the official test. Yet, some of these figures were misdrawn, (esp on the top-front-end sections) such that diagrams contradicted each other. Therefore, we're forced to guess between two wrong answers, trying to predict which was the intended correct answer. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Study Guide!!
The review book is an excellent prep for the National Registry Paramedic Exam!!Highly recommended to all Paramedic Students!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Paramedic Review Book
This book is great if you need to review for a Paramedic Exam. The book is excellantly divided into sections based on the type of injury/illness etc.The book has many of the same questions as the National Registery Exam and state exams. The book also comes with a CD for further review. Thanks in part to this book I have my NREMT-P certification.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Review Book

5-0 out of 5 stars Thorough coverage of all exam topics!
I've just passed the CCDA exam with this book as my primary resource. The book is fully packed with information so that every sentence has to be read thoroughly in order to avoid overlooking some important facts. The author's style of writing is a little dry, so are the topics itself. Fortunately the are many case studies that will help you to apply the theoretical knowledge in real-world scenarios which is vital for passing the exam.
5-0 out of 5 stars Impressive!Highly recommend
This book has very useful and detailed information that is hard to find elsewhere.Considering its size, the book is very well edited... I only recall seeing one typo but there were definitely not the usual amount of errors I find in other technical books. The book answered many questions I had about designing networks.I now understand what a good and bad design is and was actually able to apply what I learned in a real situation.
4-0 out of 5 stars Good but wordy
Having just passed the CCDA exam, I have to agree with the most recent reviewers....this book does a great job of covering the CCDA DESGN exam 640-861.But considering the size of this tome, I also highly recommend, asadjunct, the the Cisco Press Sequeira, Wallace book for focus and final test preparation. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars AP European History Students: Please Read!
I just got my AP exam scores today for the 2005 examinations and I am proud to say that I got a 4 on the exam thanks to this book and the Princeton's Review Book. This book has a really good and easy to understand review for each of the topics tested on the AP exam and it really helps alot!

5-0 out of 5 stars ABSOLUTELY AMAZING
I was in an AP class. I did not put my full effort into the AP Euro class and was scared right before the AP. Right about a month before the test I bought this book and read it all the way through. The day before the test I reviewed what I felt were the top 5 most important subjects (French Revolution, WWI, etc.) Needless to say, to my surprise I got a 5 on the test. An I truly would have to say that 85% of that grade came from reading this book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Partition of Lithuania
I have found one error in this otherwise excellent book, an error that has been repeated in many other books of modern European history. When discussing the partitions of Poland the author discusses the partition of Lithuanian territories as though these territories were a part of Poland. He states that Byelorussia and Polish Ukraine were ceded to Russia by Poland. This is not true. The fact of the matter is that Byelorussia and parts of the Ukraine were ruled by Lithuania and not by Poland. There was a Lithuanian Ukraine but there never was any such thing as the Polish Ukraine.Hopefully these matters will be resolved in later editions. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Very Complete and More Sample Questions OnLine
This book builds on the authors success in developing his predecessor book on passing the PMP test on your first try. This book applies the same techniques to the CAPM (Certified Associate in Project Management) test.
5-0 out of 5 stars First Try
I highly recommend studying this book if you are serious about being CAPM certified. I passed on my first try and would recommend after each chapter reading the associated chapter in the PMBOK. The two week insight trial that is included in the purchase of the new book is amazing. It allows you to test your knowledge in the various knowledge areas and take an extra simulated exam, the book also has one. I spent a 4 week period reading the book before I took the exam and it was well worth it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent study material
The CAPM Exam - How to Pass on Your First Try - is the best book out there for exam preparation. The book takes the PMBOK material and translates into pieces that are easier to digest for exam preparation.I especially like the free trial to INSITE with the purchase of the book.I was able to take online practice tests before the actual test.I definitely recommend for people looking to pass on the first time around - as I did. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Great Supplement
This outline will work best for those looking for a concise supplement to their course text. The strength of this outline is in the solved problems. The weakness is in the explanation of concepts. As advertised, the book contains over 1100 fully worked problems. These problems are indeed fully worked and looking over them can be of tremendous value if you are struggling with solving particular problems in your class. If you are having a tough time with the concepts rather than the problems of calculus I would not recommend this book. The explanations are kept to a bare minimum and tough topics like delta-epsilon proofs and Reimann Integrals are not explained in detail. For instance, this book will not try to justify why you can set delta equal to epsilon to complete your limit proof, it just tells you to do it (which is exactly what you need to do to solve the problem). In other words, this book will help you solve the problems you need to solve in order to pass your exams, but it will not necessarily help you understand why those solutions work.So please do not buy this thinking it will have fuller conceptual explanations. Its strength is in its fully solved problems.

4-0 out of 5 stars Everything you need
This book will show you everything there is in calculus. It is not organized perfect, but the information is great.I am taking Cal 1, 2, and 3 so I use the book a lot.It has been a great buy, and I recomend it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Resource
This book is a great resource for those out there who want to enhance their knowledge of calculus and supplement the instruction of a professor. It can also be used to a limited extent as a replacement. This book is invaluable to me, as I suffer from sub-standard education conditions and the schaums method breaks things down easily and clearly. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Well Organized
French grammar is hard to learn because although there are rules there are more exceptions than rules. This book does a great job of organizing things in a way to deal with all the expections.I especially like the way it presents the verbs.I own quite a few books on French grammar but the way this book groups the verbs is really much better. In terms of reviewing for a test (or for real life if you live in France) a book like this is essential, since most normal French text book are just too disorganized to find what you are looking for. Also it helps me to see all the rules about a certain topic in one place at one time. There are lots of exercises and the answers are in the back of the book to check yourself.Learning French grammar isn't ever going to be easy, but if you use this book it will be a lot easier than if you don't.Highly recommended.

5-0 out of 5 stars Must have French learning companion
I don't have to describe the content in detail as the self-explanatory nature of the title.I studied French in L'Alliance Francais for some time.Their communicative approach almost makes me paralysed until I have this book.I can't imagine how a middle age person can learn a new language by merely listening and imitating the sound of teachers. On the contrary the grammatical approach in this book systematically illustrate every single bit of grammar detail for beginner (and intermediate level student). By reading and reviewing the explanation as well as practising the exercise, I can make a lot sense in French now.And I am not just fantizing it.The most exciting piece of news is that my progress is noticed by both my French teacher and my classmates. The mastering of basic is so satisfying and giving me advancement and enjoyment.

5-0 out of 5 stars good for brushing up skills
I've worked through this book a couple of times now to brush up my French skills. It's excellent as a companion to a course, or just to practise. I would recommend it from the beginner, to the more advanced speaker who would like to refine their knowledge of the language. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars One of the Best Books for Techs
I have read and used many textbooks as a technician and this has to be one of the most helpful. The chapter breakdowns allow you to find information very easily and quickly. It's also great for those times when you need to remember something that you just can't figure out.The quizzes in the book relate more to the NVTE than most books.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great review for the VTNE!
I am taking a class that reviews the items that are on the Veterinary Technician National and State Examinations and this is the textbook we use for the class. It has everything you will need to pass the exams to become certified and/or registered!

5-0 out of 5 stars A great book to have
This book is wonderful for indepth information on certain procedures. However when I first bought this book I was a little intimidated becasue of how " technical " it was. Since I was just starting out in the field. But now I love it! Alot of very useful information. I also think this is a book you need in order to become a CVT. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Wrong title
I was looking for CCNA 1 & 2 Companion Guide Revised Third Edition, from that page I clicked on 'used & new' link and oredered what I thought was the same product. It wasn't til it arrived that I received a used version of the previous year's non-revised which is quite a bit different than what I thought I was buying.

4-0 out of 5 stars I thought it was good
True there are some errors, however, if you are in the class and use this book, the errors are not that profound and shouldn't cause you any confusion. If you are confused because a word is misspelled or there are 4 technical errors throughout the book...you should not be going into the technology field...try a different career path.

4-0 out of 5 stars Hmmmm.....
I'm not sure about the other reviewers here but I found this book very, very useful.

5-0 out of 5 stars Real PRACTICE Book
The most valuable thing offered by this book is PRACTICE without which it is fairly difficult to get a high TOEFL score.
4-0 out of 5 stars A solid course for the New TOEFL- You will need the cds
The new TOEFL is more than just memorizing grammar.Actually, there is no more grammar section.(That has been moved to the S.A.T. for American kids.)The book has a good selection of example questions. There are examples of scored essays. The integrated tasks of listening, speaking, reading and writing are done very well. There are also good explanations of how the test is administered. You will need to order the cd collection to get the most out of this as listening is now such an integral part of the speaking and writing tasks. A competent tutor would also be worth it.

1-0 out of 5 stars Hmmm...the others are right, probably not worth the cost
The test in this book is pretty simple compared with the real thing...this is simply echoing the other reviewers, I know, but the book wasn't published before I purchased it or I may not have purchased it either. One suggestion, though:in studying for this test, review everything the test provider tells you to study, but do it in far more depth than any practice test they give you.It will be worth the time, effort, and especially the money!

1-0 out of 5 stars Don't waste your money
If you are preparing for the mathematics content knowledge assessment test, I would not recommend purchasing this book.It does not really give you any more information concerning study topics than the free literature on the website. The actual test seemed a lot more difficult than the book's practice test, which could give you a false sense of confidence and cause insufficient time management. Also, the study tips aren't anything you've never seen before. Finally, if you do purchase this book, at least you can sell it and get some of your money back!

1-0 out of 5 stars Don't bother
The problems presented in this study guide are not as difficult as the ones you'll do on the math content knowledge test. For a practice test I'd just use the free one provided by the ets website rather than waste money on this book. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Passed with Excellence, but this book offered minimal help.
I bought this book thinking that it would help me study the material on the PLT, but it is only summary of the topics the test covers. It is meant to be used as a guide to show a test-taker what to study from textbooks and other sources.
5-0 out of 5 stars PASSED TEST!!!
This book has an outline of the informantion that you will need on the test. This way you are not studying topics that are not on the test and wasting valuable study time. It also shows the format of the test, sample questions, answers, and grading. All of the information that is on the test is not in this book, but was easily found on the internet. It is a great guide to know what to study for.

4-0 out of 5 stars Useful...if you follow the directions
This book is very useful, but keep this in mind:it does not actually contain many useful facts. It is an outline of what to study and several useful tips on how to study it.Besides this book you will need a source of information on teaching theory.Your college textbooks work nicely, as does a well-stocked library.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Refreshing supplement for revision
This book is a carefully written one which will enable any student to revise thoroughly before DSP exam. It has an outstanding collection of solved problems like most other Schaum's outlines. This book is to be used as a supplement book to any standard DSP book like Oppenheim or Proakis & Manolakis. This book can make quite a lot of difference in final grades of most of students. So, it is advisable for any UG/PG to revise this book well before exam.

5-0 out of 5 stars Good as a refresher or supplemental text in DSP
This outline could never stand alone as a DSP tutorial, but it is excellent if you need extra problems to solve or if you need a refresher course in elementary DSP topics. Chapter one starts where any DSP course usually starts - with a quick review of signals and systems. Chapter two is on Fourier analysis and discusses all of the basics including the concept of filtering, interconnection of systems, and finally the discrete time Fourier transform and its properties. Chapter 3 is on sampling, and includes a good discussion of analog to digital conversion and how it can induce aliasing. Next the converse, digital to analog conversion, is discussed as well as discrete time processing of continuous signals and finally sample rate conversion. Chapter 3 is especially useful, since most DSP texts do not go into as much detail on practical A/D and D/A conversion topics as this chapter does. Chapter four finally gets into the z-transform - its definition, its properties, and its inverse. Chapter 5 is about the transform analysis of systems and specifically how the z transform makes the analysis of such systems much simpler than what was done in earlier chapters. Chapter six discusses the discrete Fourier transform, which is a finite-series version of the DTFT, which was discussed in chapter two. Because the Discrete Fourier Transform has a time complexity of NxN, the next chapter discusses its more practical alternative the Fast Fourier Transform, which has an NlogN time complexity. This might seem trivial at first, but if you are filtering 1Kx1K pixel images, the difference becomes significant. Although this chapter is very brief, it does a pretty good job of driving home the main points of the algorithm. Also, it has some pretty good exercises on the FFT, which are usually hard to find in textbooks. Now that all of the groundwork has been laid, chapter eight discusses the implementation of discrete time systems, which is the essence of DSP. Common filter structures are introduced. Chapter 9, the final chapter, is on filter design. Both IIR and FIR filter techniques are introduced. Thus, if you are in an advanced DSP course, this outline will probably be too elementary for you. For first semester students, this should be a very helpful outline for transitioning from the study of linear systems to DSP.

3-0 out of 5 stars An adequate option
This study guide is ok, but not great. Because it was published in 2003, and probably written in 2002, I think that some of the information is outdated. A list of study topics are provided but not the information that goes with the topic. The practice test is ok but there were a few answers I did not agree with. (and this could be due to newer research than the book has) I would have liked a second practice test.

5-0 out of 5 stars JUST TOOK THE SPHR IS JUNE 2006
I just took the SPHR June 30, 2006 and used this book, along with other text books to study for the exam.I highly recommend this book for the exam.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Resource!
This was a great supplemental resource to SHRM's other study materials. It is well written and a quick read.I really appreciated the "test alerts" to point out specific areas that are often covered in HRCI's certification exam.Having successfully passed the exam, I can say that this book was well worth the investment to help prepare for it.I would not, however, use it as your only resource to prepare for the exam, but as a good summarizing resource! It will also make a great resource for me to refer to in my job.

5-0 out of 5 stars This book delivers!
I spent 2 hours a day (22 days total) summarizing this book and 3 hours a day for 5 days reviewing my notes and easily passed the SPHR. This is a well-organized,well-written, and comprehensive study/reference guide for the HR professional. This book and my 12 years of HR experience ensured I didn't need any other study guides (I bought the PHR/SPHR Professional in HR Certification Study Guide, but it was poorly organized and WAY too wordy, so I only used it for the practice tests/questions).I also wish I'd saved my money on the HRCI assessment test.

5-0 out of 5 stars Schaum's Outline of Genetics
It is very informative and a great reference for the study of genetics and related studies.
5-0 out of 5 stars best genetics text available
The Stansfield/Elrod outline remains as comprehensive as any of the intro to genetics textbooks currently available. At about 10-15% the cost of the "standard" texts, this outline delivers the same material with more clarity, and often more accuracy. The concepts of classical genetics, which often prove more challenging for students than molecular aspects, are covered admirably in this book. While those who enjoy colorful illustration and pastel text boxes might be disappointed, the b&w figures in this book are extremely clear, logical and most importantly helpful towards learning the material. No solution manual or supplemental CD-ROM is required.Highly recommended as a reference, or as a text for general genetics classes.

5-0 out of 5 stars real bargain
Comparable in scope, clarity, completeness, and accuracy to any of the very expensive general genetics texts currently available. And with this one there's nothing else to buy...no study guides, solution manuals, cd's or supplemental websites are required. The book stands alone, and does so for less than half the price of the solution manual for most texts.Particularly strong is the coverage of classical genetics, which can often be more difficult to grasp than the more modern "molecular" concepts of the science.Highly recommended for self-study, as a reference, or as a supplement to any genetics textbook. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Schaum's Outline of Probability and Statistics
Great. It was delivered in a timely fashion and in excellentcondition. The content is exactly what I wanted.

4-0 out of 5 stars VERYGOODFORINDEPENDENTSTUDY
This is one of the few Statistics texts to turn to, if you indulge in any sort of independent study. Its contents are broad, and ramified virtually every aspect of core statistics and probability. I particularly valued the way it handled data analyses and result interpretations.
5-0 out of 5 stars Good starter
All of the (few) typos of concern to some reviewers are in the "supplementary problems", and by the time you've got there you'll have no little confidence in your own answers and in your own ability. This is *the* probability and statistics book for me because the proofs are presented with minimum formality in order to maximize understanding of the main ideas. Want to know how to *derive* the chi-square distribution or how to add or multiply random variables? You'll find no clearer or more succinct presentation anywhere.

5-0 out of 5 stars Don't be fooled-this isn't a review book!
My med school pharm class required big Katzung, 9th ed, which was AWFUL and had pages on pages of worthless crap (unless you are an organic chemist-then enjoy). This book is just perfect. In my opinion, it's way too much for Step 1 review (use a flashcard set or First Aid) but it's perfect for an allopathic pharm class-it has everything you need to know, and very little that you don't. It also is well organized for memorization-many charts/diagrams, plus my favorite, little "Skill Keeper" boxes in each chapter that ask you a relevant question from a previous chapter, helping you to tie everything together. Each chapter also has Board style questions at the end WITH full explanations.

5-0 out of 5 stars very satisfied
