4-0 out of 5 stars Good as a basic textbook and a source of solve problems
This book is intended to assist upper level undergraduate and graduate students in their understanding of differential geometry, which is the study of geometry using calculus.Usually students study differential geometry in reference to its use in relativity. I personally have a rather oddball application for the subject - modeling of curved geometry for computer graphics applications. The fundamental concepts are presented for curves and surfaces in three-dimensional Euclidean space to add to the intuitive nature of the material.
4-0 out of 5 stars Useful supplement and/or stand-alone text
Differential geometry and Tensor Calculus go hand in hand.If you're taking a course in differential geometry, you should have a copy of this book AND the Schaum's outline on Tensor Calculus. In it, you will find a concise, clear review of the theory, followed immediately by many problems with detailed solutions. For the physicist out there who needs to learn tensor calculus, I suggest you compliment your studies with this book.
4-0 out of 5 stars Differential Geometry - A Schaum's Outline Series
As with all of the Schaum's Outline Series, this book is particularly useful if the readers intent is to gain a working knowledge of the subject. The subject of Differential Geometry is no exception. Dr. Lipschultz hasdone an excellent job of communicating the essential aspects ofdifferential geometry to the reader. The book assumes a fairly low level ofmathematical ability having calculus as the primary prerequisite. From thishumble beginning, Dr. Lipschultz takes the reader through the necessarydiscussions of vector functions, curvature, fundamental forms, and tensoranalysis. Given the theoretical nature of the subject,Dr. Lipschultz hasincluded most of the theorems and associated proofs necessary for a generalunderstanding of the subject. However, this book is not a substitute for aserious study of differential geometry. In addition most of the problemsare limited to two dimensional surfaces and this reader would have enjoyeda more adventurous investigation of higher dimensional spaces. Like allSchaum's series, the text is chock full of problems and their solution. Irecommend this book for anyone interested in quickly gaining a workingknowledge of the subject. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars We Use It In Class
We use this book as core material in our Beginning Spanish class. Our instructor supplements the book as need be, but in general it provides enough material, as do the follow-on books in the series, to give our students an excellent introduction and capacity in the language.

2-0 out of 5 stars I had to buy it
I the book is o.k. as it was required for my class. There is no attempt to instruct in grammer or increase the understanding of how to use the language. Also it is geared towards using the language in Spain. If ,,, that is what you want it is o.k.Some of the illustrationsare hard to read without a magnifying glass. As a part of a comprehensive course in spanish it is o.k.but you are not going to learn how to make converstion spontaniouslywith this book.

3-0 out of 5 stars Good for a short class to get ready for a trip

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Review Book
Compared to the NMS Q/A book, I believe the Kaplan Qbook is the most similar to the format and content of Step 3.Sure, the questions are long and the book is heavy and thick, but the explanations are thorough. It also breaks up the question into subspecialties. With Crush Step 3, this will be an adequate review book for step 3.

1-0 out of 5 stars Kaplan Medical USMLE Step 3 Book Review:0(
I used this book as preparation for the USMLE step III and found that it covered the material in excessive detail, far more than what was reflected on the actual exam.It was so "specific" that I got lost in the minuitia. It requires you to know much more than is required, which hurt me in the end.The CCS portion and dermatology sections were not well represented.I did poorly on these portions of the exam and would recommend an additional text or interactive CD for those components of the exam.Take the CCS section very seriously, for it is a whopping 20% of your score which is very important!

4-0 out of 5 stars Good Resource for SPHR exam
I found this to be a very typical study guide - matching vocabulary, true/false, multiple choice, and a couple fill-in answers. It was useful as a review to the text to make sure I knew what the concepts were, but the SPHR exam goes beyond knowing the concepts to being able to combine and apply them.I would recommend this in conjunction with the text for a good review, but you will need to have a much more indepth understanding of the concepts to pass the exam.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Complimentary Must Have
The Study Guide is the perfect companion to the Human Resources Management Tenth Edition textbook. The Study Guide provides excellent review questions in the form of True/False, Multiple Choice, Matching, Essay and Fill-ins.At the end of each question, the corresponding page number of the textbook is provided for quick reference/review.The study guide will test your ability to retain information.I highly recommend it, especially for those that are preparing for the PHR/SPHR exams. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Better than elementary
This book, I must say, is very good companion for any high school or middle school students who want to master the subject. I like this intermediate algebra better than the elementary one--simply more interesting. But to well prepare yourself for college math/algebra, you only need this book: the most useful problem or resource book that I have ever read in English :
5-0 out of 5 stars Very Happy
I purchased this book to makea quick review of Math and help my son. I am so happy that I will buy the entire collection from elementary Algebra to Calculus includingDifferencial equations, Geometry and Trigonometry. Great help for those who need a solid foundation in Math. You can't go wrong with Schaum's Outline.

5-0 out of 5 stars A highly useful supplement
If you're returning to college after a while and feel rusty, you should have a copy of this book.In it, you will find a concise, clear review of the theory, followed immediately by many problems with detailed solutions.Nothing is worse than in a math class than getting hung up on some idea during the semester. You will fall behind and probably not catch up.Try to work the problems, though, before looking at the answers.

4-0 out of 5 stars a great book, but you need another text book with it.
This is one of my favorite books. Once you have the basic theory behind you this book shows you the techniques to quickly simplify control blocks ( You want to be able to solve questions more than one way to check yourself) . I just keep this book handy and have alots of added notes for specific control models. It helps round out other books in the end i found this book by itself with some photo copies from other texts was enough for me. There are alot good text books for control theory. I prefer ones with matlab / simulink exercises.
4-0 out of 5 stars Good Remainder for The Basic Concept
I am a student of Graduate School, and my major is Adaptive Control. I consider this book very good book for me, especially because it summarizes and covers most of the basic concept and method about control engineering, which I sometimes forget. So, by having this book now, I can anytimefind and reread the part I have forgotten. Of course, it will be better if you also accompany this book with others books which explain more detil about control.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent for Undgrad Course
I'm currently taking a Feedback Control Theory course at the undergrad level, and I think this book is an excellent exposition of classical control theory. Our text for the course is Feedback Control of Dynamic Systems, written by people from Stanford.Schaum's Outline actually has more *theory* than the textbook we are using. It eliminates all of the frills and pretty colored diagrams in favor of exposing everything an undergraduate would have trouble with. And for those people who think the emphasis is only on problem solving, this "Outline" has more mathematical proof than the book from Stanford I just mentioned!I highly recommend using this book to get off on the right foot in control systems, whether you are an engineer just learning the material or an undergraduate; it solidifies the foundations of the theory so that practical problems will come more easily. Also, it is a practical book as well. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Well written book
I have already finished courses in strength of materials etc., and am using this book as a reference, instead of those voluminous handbooks. The book is very well written and William Nash has an excellent, straightforward way of putting forth the key points. The book has all theinformation you might need for a first course in strength of materials. Ialso use this book in conjunction with a finite element text to give me thetheoretical values for comparison. 5-0 out of 5 stars The only book of its kind!
This is an excellent supplement to most of the college level textbooks in C++ programming. Many authors of C++ textbooks aretaken up by the apparent need to illustrate complex object oriented concepts (lest Java be seen as the alpha and omega in object oriented languages)with long winded "case studies" or "programming projects" that seem contrived (see any book by Deitel for examples of such.)Some other authors think that their exercises and examples are places to showcase their ingenuity and possession of programming tricks (see Daniel Liang's "Displaying A Pyramid Of Numbers" in Chapter 3 of Introduction to JAVA Programming, Comprehensive Version, 5th Edition, as an example of such.) But what about simple exercises to see if you've mastered the basics of arrays, loops, and simple functions? Let's face it, it will be a couple of years before you'll be asked to work on the code for an ATM machine (Deitel), in the meantime buy this book and focus on the basics.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good book
Its a good book to work problems in congunction with a regular text book. The practical side is limited for engineering purposes. Smithor Fischer is a better book.
5-0 out of 5 stars Clear concise outline of optics
This Schaum's outline is better than the expensive textbook by the same author on the same subject in many ways, and in my opinion stands alone as a guide on optics. It gets to the meat of optics via solving problems that range from simple to difficult, which is particularly attractive to engineers learning or reviewing this subject. To me, the only chapters that seemed a bit confusing were the first two on wave motion and on electromagnetic waves and photons. For that material you may need to consult another source. From that point onward, however, the outline couldn't be any better. The outline even has a chapter that introduces Fourier optics. This outline would make an excellent review or supplement for someone taking a course in Photonics that uses Saleh's "Fundamentals of Photonics". That textbook has virtually no solved problems in it whatsoever, and the first third of the book follows the material covered in this outline nicely.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great stand-alone text and/or supplement
My students tell me this Schaum's made a positive difference in their understanding. Thus, if you're taking a course in intermediate optics, you should have a copy of this book. In it, you will find a concise, clear review of the theory, followed immediately by many problems with detailed solutions.

I recently purchased this book for a discrete math class I was attending at UMD. This was no help in practicing iteration, induction, or summation. The only good point about this book is that it gives plenty of examples for visuals (i.e. set theory, graphs, and trees).

5-0 out of 5 stars Reviews the field and Enforces problem solving abilities
Computer science has been the primary catalyst transforming the status of this once-obscure field of discrete mathematics into state-of-the-art information, and required knowledge. Switching circuits, programming languages, expert systems and their underlying logic, to name but a few computer-related topics, each rely upon the results from this field as a foundation. There is a proliferation of books on graph theory, discrete mathematics, and even set theory and mathematical logic, for this reason.4-0 out of 5 stars It's helpful!
The problems in this book were arranged the waythat leads readers understand simple conceptsfirst, then bring you to problems and applications. In addtion, my professor Dr. Mott (he wrote one of the topselling discrete book) recommandedthis book to me as well. I found itVERY helpful. Read more
