2-0 out of 5 stars CD-ROM VERY DIFFICULT TO FOLLOW
I BOUGHT THIS FOR MY MOTHER WHO WANTED TO IMPROVE HER ENGLISH. IT CAME WITH A CD-ROM THAT IS SUPPOSE TO WORK AS A NARATIVE TO THE BOOK. THE BOOK ITSELF IS ACTUALLY VERY HELPFULL. BUT THE CD-ROM IS DIFFICULT TO FOLLOW. IT TOOK US A WHILE TO FIGURE OUT WHERE IN THE BOOK THE CD STARTS. ONCE YOU FIND YOU PLACE ITS VERY DIFFICULT TO KEEP PACE AND KEEP YOUR PLACE. SHE NO LONGER USES THE CD WITH THE BOOK BECAUSE IT BECAME MORE CONFUSING THAN HELPFUL. IF THE BOOK WAS SOLD BY ITSELF IT WOULD HAVE RECEIVED A BETTER REVIEW. BUT THE BOOK IS SOLD AS A SET WITH THE CD-ROM AND THE COMPATIBILITY OF THE TWO ARE LESS THAN BENEFICIAL. YOU WILL END UP USING THE BOOK WITHOUT THE CD. SAVE SOME MONEY AND BY THE BOOK BY ITSELF OR FIND ANOTHER SET TO WORK WITH.

3-0 out of 5 stars Better for teachers than students
I found this book to be quite useful for me, as I am a teacher of beginning English in classes comprised mostly of latinos. I speak and read Spanish at least half as well as English. Ingles para Dummies has a lot of lists of vocabulary and of expressions, and pages of examples I can incorporate into my lessons. But it is not likely to be useful for its avowed purpose, that is, for a student trying to learn English by him/herself.

2-0 out of 5 stars Disappointing errors in my copy
When I received my copy of the Gazetteer I found 4 pages missing and 4 other pages duplicated. I ordered two other Gazetteers for Wyoming and Idaho at the same time and they were OK but since I discovered the problem while on our trip, the Gazetteer I purchased for Montana was effectively useless.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Wealth of Detail for All Kinds of Readers
This atlas, like all the Delorme atlases of the states, shows in clear detail every possible feature of the areas: roads down to dirt paths, rivers and streams, railroads, and the contours and elevations of the land.Placenames are thoroughly listed, as are parks, campgrounds, and recreation sites for hunting, fishing, hiking, and biking. This is an excellent all-around reference work.

3-0 out of 5 stars Not what I expected
They tried to squeeze too big of a state into too small of a book. Detail is not on par with other atlases in this series. Should have been divided into an east and west set. ... Read more

I highly recommend this atlas book. It has large maps, easy to use symbols, it loaded with colors and highly useful and interesting information. 4-0 out of 5 stars Mountains, rivers, creeks and streams
I bought this West Virginia Map and Gazetteer in order to help my husband and I find our way through WV. We're most interested in the topography - elevations, rivers, creeks, etc. I would recommend using this book map in conjunction with a regular road map, because there isn't quite enough detail for smaller roads, but it's a great place to start.

4-0 out of 5 stars Essential Equipment for Motorcyclists
I bought the Atlas and Gazetter for WV and MD.These books are essential equipment for getting out and enjoying the back roads. The topo info tells you if it will be flat and sunny or hilly and shady.I am really impressed with the detail of the maps.If they could make it in a water proof edition it would be perfect.

5-0 out of 5 stars Classic and basic delicious recipes
My co-worker introduced me to this book, when she prepare to a party a "Bacalao a la Valenciana" (she had no left-overs).I asked her for the recipe and she let me borrow her book; after reading it for a couple minutes I decided to buy it has too many good and basic recipes for me not to get it, since I am new in the art of cooking.
5-0 out of 5 stars The food I grew up with.
My mom has this book and I was always experimenting in the kitchen with recipes from this book. It is very easy to follow and has great recipes. Now, I've been married for 4 years and I miss all of this great puertorican food, so I looked for it specifically so that I can revive my love of cooking the best caribbean food.

5-0 out of 5 stars The BEST of the BEST!
This is the best Puerto Rican cookbook you will ever find. When I got married my mom took me to the store to find this book and she said to me: "You can't leave Puerto Rico without this, treasure it forever, keep your husband happy for years to come." I've been married 10 years and I still use the cookbook and my husband gets very excited on what I will cook next. He has even done some himself and feels like a great chef. Everything on that book tastes as good as it sounds or better. It is the BEST of all. I will pass this on to my children when the time comes. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Texas Atlas by Delorme
The atlas has good detail with mapping, however the quality of the material or workmanship is very bad. I modrately used the book two weeks and entire pages came out of the book. The paper is breaking at the binding on several pages. I DO NOT recommend this product

5-0 out of 5 stars Texas Atlas and Gazetteer
I have been through several of these. I use them until they fall apart and then get another. I purchased another brand after my last one fell apart. Used it once and did'nt like it. This is the best Texas Atlas made. The blowups and details of the metro areas make it particularly valueable.

4-0 out of 5 stars Fills a niche for travellers needing more detail on statewide scale
This is a very useful atlas if you want a general reference to find your way around on state and county roads across the state. The scale and topography shown are helpful in finding a destination, but there is no way to show enough labels at this level, so while county roads are shown, they are not labelled.Since it covers the whole state it lacks the level of detail required for some areas, particularly densely populated ones that don't have detail maps included. For those you are better off using city maps, or online sources such as USGS topos or web based maps to drill down.(It should also be possible to find more detailed county maps locally.)

2-0 out of 5 stars Word of Caution
This book does not 'spell out' how to say these words. There is no English to Spanish vocabulary. The paper quality is poor.Lastly, this book was written in 1961...although this book was written by a teacher, education has come a long since then...you can probably find a better quality, better written book.

4-0 out of 5 stars Highly Recommended Book for the Beginner

5-0 out of 5 stars Another Winner B y Magarita Madrigal
Since I am already a fan of Margarita Madrigal's books, having read her other book (Madrigal's Magic Key to Spanish) twice, I thought I'd give this book a try. I am so glad that I did. Her method of using words and pictures not only helped me learn a lot of Spanish but also retain it. Just like her other book, this book also deserves 5 stars.

5-0 out of 5 stars Wisconsin Atlas
Once again DeLorme has put together an extremely valuable resource.Backroads, lakes, trails, all seem to be accounted for.I spend nearly all of my time in Burnett County and could not find anything missing or incorrectly labeled.1-0 out of 5 stars Everyday Travel?
The cover lists "Everyday Travel." Common sense and experience with other atlases led me to believe I would see cities mapped as well as parks, lakes and swamps.NOT SO.I was better-off squinting at Mapquest.com.

4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent book, but missing information.
First of all I absolutely love this atlas!! I look at it all the time. Its great for taking a trip through the state because it doesn't leave out a detail (or so it seems until you look harder). It features parks, forests, tourist attractions, natural features, fishing spots and more... The ONLY reason that I give this otherwise 5+ star atlas four stars, is that it has a good amount of missing information. I own the 1989 edition of this book and recently looked at the newest edition (2001) to find that there was NO added information from the old edition. I couldn't find a single difference between the two versions. The problem is, there is probably a couple DOZEN roads within 10 miles of my home that are not listed! I've also found one of their phone numbers for a state park to be the wrong one.Well, they do say to contact them "if you should find conditions other than what is listed in this atlas". So that's what I'll do and I hope to help other people by stepping in and making the right changes. (The changes will be listed in the next edition).Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Too large.
Had I known the atlas was this large I would not have purchased it.It has already been added to my next Goodwill pickup.

5-0 out of 5 stars An excellent reference book
This atlas shows every single back road in the state. It also has topographical features and a handy guide to campgrounds, recreational areas, fishing/hunting spots, and the like. Because many roads are unlabeled on the maps, it's not all that useful if you're lost in a downtown area. Instead, it's designed to help locate out-of-the-way spots for outdoor recreation. Te amount of detail on these maps is incredible. It complements, rather than replaces, a traditional road atlas.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great South Carolina Reference Book
South Carolina Atlas and Gazetteer is a great resource for locating any lake, road, or state park in the state. For the outdoorsman, you can find information on hunting, fishing, hiking trails, golf courses, heritage preserves, and beaches all within these pages.Consequently, this atlas makes a fine resource for researching the land of South Carolina. With great attention to detail, Delorme has produced an exceptional atlas worthy of high praise. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Oxford-Duden Pictorial Spanish/English Dictionary
This book was just what I needed to help me brush up on my spanish.

5-0 out of 5 stars Superb reference
A great noun builder for intermediate to advanced students of Spanish (or Spanish-speaking students of English), this book will help you attain a degree of precision in your vocabulary that would be difficult to achieve any other way without a substantial investment of time. The dictionary is arranged by subject areas varying from the highly technical (e.g. precision instrument parts) to the everyday (e.g. tableware). About one-fourth of the volume is taken up by the index which is eminently helpful if you want to quickly find the translation of a particular word without having to wade through the many subject areas. The book identifies occasional word differences between Castillian Spanish and other idioms (e.g. Mexican Spanish) as well as between British and American English. Well-suited for browsing (a rare quality for a dictionary) and very different from most other language learning resources, consider this book a must-have for the serious language student or professional working abroad. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars i like it
This is great for browsing (if you like maps of different periods in history that is).It won't stand on it's own as a history textbook, but I don't imagine it was intended to.I like the fact that it is lightweight and portable...not so big and fat that it's hard to find the page you're looking for, or a place to store it.I think it would be a great supplement for people who are learning history, as well as for those who read a lot of things from or about various periods in history.I keep it on the coffee table and enjoy looking through it often.I'm giving it only 4 stars because I'd like to see a few more details and features on the maps.Still, this really is a great bargain of an atlas.

4-0 out of 5 stars An Atlas that's an Atlas
Thank goodness I can still buy an atlas that is really an atlas. I read a lot of history, and having reached that stage in life where most of the books I enjoy are not profusely illustrated, I have been searching for a good historical atlas. I've bought several now, covering different periods and regions, but most have been a dissapointment (the lone exception being the Penguin Atlas of Medieval History). Instead of an atlas, i.e., a collection of maps, what I got was an illustrated history book. Unfortunately, to make room for the text, graphs, etc., they left out most of the maps. The maps that were included often ignored political boundaries, or tried to encapsulate 100 years of change on a single, low-detail map with a few arrows and dots drawn on. While I understand that history is much more than political and national boundaries, those are the aspects of history that change most rapidly, thus requiring more maps to follow. I remember the old Hammond Historical Atlas from my childhood, as the perfect companion for most books of post-Renaissance European history (and not bad for earlier periods, though usually weak outside Europe). I just hope it hasn't changed too much.

2-0 out of 5 stars Bargain priced, but no text. Very basic.
First of all: this book is a bargain. At under ten bucks, you can get maps of world history to refer to.However, there are a few problems: (1) The book offers no text to explain history. So you really need to know the history yourself or have companion books to help; (2) the book emphasizes European state history, and shortchanges other nations, cultural changes, religious movements, migrations, slavery, technologies, etc. This is mostly a book of maps showing the changing territories of nations.////I was hoping to assign this book to my college Geography students, but will not, nor do I have much use for it myself.I much prefer the other Hammond world historical atlas, even at the higher cost. Most of the new, larger world historical atlasses are superior, becuase they show that history is so much more than states. In sum, this book is a disappointment, useful to a very limited audience. ... 3-0 out of 5 stars pro vs. con
Actually I bought this book for my husband who thought he needed a larger scale print then the one that he already had. At first glance he thunbed through it and decided right away that it was too different then the one he was used to so he wanted me to send it back, he said that that the common places that he frequented (because he drives a truck) were broken up and not as large as he really wanted, (really it was just different and he had yet to give it a chance being stuck in his ways). Before I had a chance to send it back he got called to take a load somewhere and when I had got home from work the book was gone. He had taken it with him. When he returned home he concluded that actually this new book did indeed have larger scale maps and all the places that he frequented only divided onto more than one page and also larger scale maps of places that he frequented that the other map book he was accustomed to did not. So in conclusion he say's that some of the cities are broken up on too many pages and that (because it sits on the seat beside him) it slides around too much. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars delorme gazetteer series
the delorme gazeteer series is perfect for people who want to wander off of the main roads.my wife and i like to point the car as whim sees fit.the map has backroads with enought detail to let us find our wish and our way back.essential for indirect travel.also has marked 4wd trails to unknown wonders, as well as a smattering of known wonders (waterfalls, museums, fishing, camping...).not a replacement for usgs quads, but will make the travel to your hike more fun.if you are interested in exploring a state, or some portion thereof, the gazetteer series is an invaluable tool.

5-0 out of 5 stars Michigan Atlas and Gazetteer
We previously owned the Minnesota version of this Atlas.Recently we bought the Michigan version and found it very helpful on a trip to the UP of Michigan. The great detail in the maps helps find the small things the state maps leave out.

At over a three month wait, this was a very delayed delivery. In fact I have a second order that I placed May 4, 2005, that has still not been delivered.I really feel that you shouldn't advertise items that you don't have available and can't deliver, stating one delivery date, then another, now a third delivery window.I'm glad we received the 1 book, but am still waiting for 3 others. It's been over three months now! ... 1-0 out of 5 stars This book sucks
First off, if you are being forced to learn a second language for a math degree, then you would already be put out.But to have use this crappy book with crappy exercises is just too much.I used this book through 103 (becuase I HAD to) and I still can't speak Spanish.I get good grades (even in this class) but only because testing is done before memory lapses.I suspect by fall quarter I won't remember 1/10 of this [...].
4-0 out of 5 stars good
its a spanish book, i needed it for class, and it was much cheaper here than in the bookstore

1-0 out of 5 stars Bad, out-of-dated edition
I bought this book recently, when it reached my door. I found it was out-of-dated (the 3rd edition, instead of fourth or the lastest 5th edition) and there was no CD attached as it is said in the introduction. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Too detailed, too many pages
It's at once too detailed and not detailed enough. For instance, Palo Alto is spread out on something like 6 pages. It makes it terribly difficult to figure out driving directions anywhere, flipping around all the time. It's extremely detailed, but less useful because of that.
5-0 out of 5 stars Thomas Guide Bay Area - wish I'd bought it earlier
This guide is indispensable for pinpointing streets and locations, and finding jammed freeway detours. I began using it the first day. The ring binding makes it easy to use and long lasting. I haven't even used the CD yet, but that further enhances its usefulness. I'm a AAA member and have relied on its individual maps for years; they're still more useful for intermediate distance viewing, but the Thomas Guide is the one I'll be using regularly from now on.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good work and it's about time
I've worked in the restaurant industry as a waitress for years and never knew a word of spanish. This made communication with the kitchen staff very difficult for me. After years of playing charades and mime to get what I needed I can finally ask for what I want. I found the book very easy to use and the phonetics very helpful. I was pleasantly surprised by the wide variety and range of the phrases and words listed in the book. In particular I was impressed by the waitstaff section. Good job Jason, it's about time someone wrote this book.

1-0 out of 5 stars Very Disappointed
I was really hoping that this book would help me, but it's just not doing the job. It's so complicated and the stuff I need isn't in there. The kitchen is a really fast paced place to be in and this book is good if you can sit down and study it but in the kitchen, it's a waste. That's what it is to me, a total waste of money.

5-0 out of 5 stars Wow, What a help!
Intuitive lay-out, meets all my kitchen needs, easy to use, and a must to get through the day! ... Read more
