4-0 out of 5 stars Scale
It would be good if Amazon reviewers of maps and atlases used the standard definitions for "large-scale" and "small-scale."

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Deal
I love this map. I always take it with me when I go anywhere in Colorado. The scale is small enough so that you can see all the little back roads, and it's pretty easy to read.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very helpful for travel in remote areas
You should receive the sixth edition (2002) of the DeLorme Colorado Atlas & Gazetteer when you order from Amazon, even though Amazon's listing still shows only the fifth edition (2000). The atlas is indispensable if you're planning to travel on the back roads or the major Forest Service or BLM roads of Colorado. Governmental jurisdictions are well-differentiated by color, and the topographic relief is very nice.Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Very poor lexicographic technique
A dictionary should demonstrate good lexicographic technique and have an up-to-date-vocabulary. The Cassell's dictionary does neither.
3-0 out of 5 stars can get by on it, in the early stages
This dictionary has a pretty limited vocabulary, in both Sp-Eng and Eng-Sp. Good enough for the first year student who dutifully sticks to the prescribed texts, as most Am students do. However, if you're aiming to read anything interesting or go anywhere other than a northern Spanish (Spain) MacDonalds, you'll find it lacking. Will have to get another dictionary, in fact.
2-0 out of 5 stars may be good but type is almost unreadable
I was browsing a copy of Cassells in a book store when trying to decide which Spanish Dict. to buy. This one came recommened to me, but the type is so blurry and badly printed--at least in the copy I was looking at--it was pretty much unuseable. Don't know if this is true for all copies of this book however. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Disappointing
At first I was impressed by the maps and graphics in this book. As I began to study the battles I am particularly interested in I was suprised to find several gross errors. For example, the section on General Steele's Camden Expedition, has the map showing Thayer's Frontier Division meeting up with Steele at Elkin's Ferry via Murfreesboro, AR. The Map did not get even close to the correct route. Thayer came down via Hot Springs and Rockport and then followed Steele's armysouth until he caught up with Steele near Elkins Ferry. But I am amazed that the the map shows the Battle of Poison Springs on April 18, 1864 at Princeton which is 30+ miles northeast of Camden. Poison Springs is about 10+ miles West of Camden. I have to wonder who the heck researched this information and how could they be so far off????!!! It brings the creditability of this book into serious question!!!

3-0 out of 5 stars A slipshod production
Yes, this book contains the good things mentioned in the editorial and other reviews:broader coverage than just the campaigns, excellent introductions by James MacPherson, and many maps. However, in just a few hours perusing the book, I have found a multitude of errors and anomalies which suggest to me a lack of care in putting the book together, something I would not expect from a book bearing the Oxford imprint. Some of these are:

3-0 out of 5 stars Vegas Changes Almost Daily
This book is good for my intended purpose of seeing what to expect on my planned road trip from Las Vegas to the Grand Canyon. However the information on Las Vegas is noticeably dated.

5-0 out of 5 stars The BEST Nevada atlas in every way :))
I have lived in Nevada and have traveled extensively throughout its rural areas since the 1980's. Most people don't realize how many "roads" there are in Nevada (1000's) that exist solely as remnants from mining booms, power line access development, ranching, military, and the like. The majority of unpaved roads shown on other atlases are not maintained by the counties they are in.
5-0 out of 5 stars Not just for getting there
These are the best maps for understanding what you are viewing while you are traveling. If you want to know what you are looking at while you are driving, these are the maps for you. They are kind of a cross between a topo map, a relief map, and a gas station map. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars New Style OK But Not Great
I have been a huge fan of DeLorme State Atlas and Gazetteer books for 20+ years. I will never plan a trip without one. I find them absolutely indispensable and have them with me on any car trip, period. I do however have a preference for the older style of mapping used on the earlier editions. I used to own an old Utah Atlas and Gazetteer and much preferred it to the new one. The enhanced topo information and colorations are neat but the actual road mappings have a new style that are annoying to me. It is much harder with longer dashed lines for unimproved roads to determine whether the road intersects another one. Anyone who does backroading in Utah knows that when a road is near another on the map does not mean they intersect. One road could be 1000 feet below another and both will dead-end. It is not fun to plan a trip not being sure whether your road goes through. Although I still like the maps, I feel the need to have another topo source for backroads. I wish DeLorme would update their Atlas and Gazeteers in the old format rather than the 'slick' newer style.

5-0 out of 5 stars Utah, New Mexico, Texas, Arizona... Great places for these
I have several of these of Arizona, Utah and New Mexico. Duplicates of each... one in the house for planning and study, one in the truck. Occasionally I rotate them so they don't wear out too quickly.I gave Delorme top billing in my Desert Emergency Survival Basics book, but you don't need a desert and you don't need an emergency to need a delorme atlas.Any rural area in the United States is probably covered by them.5-0 out of 5 stars A Necesity for exploring Back Country Utah by Car
There are a lot of dirt roads that cover the BLM and National Forests of Utah, and this book has them.It doesn't replace hiking maps, but if you have a 4wd or high clearance vehical and want to explore Utah on dirt roads, this is for you.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Road Map
Not only is it an easy to follow road map but it includes points of interest with descriptions...A 'must have' for a tourist in a new territory to be discovered!

1-0 out of 5 stars mines
In the past, I have purchased several of the Gazetteer maps. One of the chief reasons I purchase a Topo type map is because I am a Rockhound. A large portion of good minerals and rock formations are generally located at or near mines. The Gazetteer has always been a quick and easy reference for roads and trails to these areas. Not so with the New Mexico version. I have found no mines or quarries anywhere within this map. I feel cheated for if I had looked at it prior to purchase, I would not have bought it.

3-0 out of 5 stars I prefer this one
Unlike others, I prefer the New Mexico Atlas and Gazetteer over the Benchmark New Mexico Road & Recreation Atlas. The reason is that the gazetteer shows state and federal lands - places where I'm not tresspassing. That's important to me.I carry them both, but the gazetteer gets used. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful resource, check for printing error
Very useful and about as accurate as you can get in a print edition, but a recent printing is missing some pages and has doubles of others.Check your copy, especially around pages 16-24.

4-0 out of 5 stars Handy intermediate scale map with topography.
These gazetteer's offer a level of detail in between that of state travel maps and that of detailed county/city maps. They also include topography. They are handy for those traveling to various counties but who lack more detailed maps for each. They won't help much in the city proper, but are useful for finding one's way to various paved county roads. The drawback is that few county roads are labelled with their names on the maps (scale would need to be different for that.)

4-0 out of 5 stars Fritz's Review
I found the maps useful for detailed travel in a small area.Of course they are MUCH better than the normal road map.Elevation information gives you an idea of what you can expect. My two complaints are: (1)the elevation information is difficult to see -- finding the actual elevation number to go with a line is very hard as there are few numbers and they are not highlighted to make them easier to find; and,(2) additional information about the type of road surface would be helpful for the adventurous. ... 2-0 out of 5 stars Comprehensively useless.
A quick glance at this atlas, and it looks impressive. - Gradients, vegetation, and what appears to be every road and track that covers the state. BUT....
4-0 out of 5 stars Just like all Delorme Atlases, it's great
I'm planning a trip to California shortly, but I lived there for many years as a child. The Delorme for Northern California joins my collection of about 10 other Delorme maps for other areas I have lived and visited.Being a birdwatcher, we in the birding community often give directions to birds by Delorme pages.Makes life SO much easier.Although it doesn't have every little street in some areas, it does have MUCH more detail than the average road map, and makes it wonderful when you're like me and just want to head off in a general direction to scout for bird territory, but not necessarily follow the same path back.Love Delorme Atlases... wouldn't travel without them.

4-0 out of 5 stars Not A Pocket Reference
I bought these for use in backpacks and bugout kits. They are enormous measuring 11 x 16 inches.Perhaps not enormous, but a pretty large reference for a backpack.Perhaps NOT ideally suited for those looking for a pocket reference.

5-0 out of 5 stars COMPLETE BOOK
This guide makes it so much easier, because in Los Angeles and Orange Counties, I would need numerous individual maps, instead of this single book.

5-0 out of 5 stars A MUST-HAVE if you are new to SoCal or do a lot of driving
Since I started driving many years ago, I have always had a Thomas Guide. Even with the advent of GPS technology (a bit too expensive for me now), the Thomas Guide is invaluable. The latest version of the LA-OC guide has all the latest updates, which is very important with all the new construction in the OC. My 2001 guide was getting outdated, so I bought a new one.

5-0 out of 5 stars A great addition to your Spanish learning toolbox
Penton's Spanish 24 is an excellent value. Penton packs an enormous amount of material into this product and the price is great. This is actually three products in one.
3-0 out of 5 stars Spanish speaker a bit fast.
Lots of material for your buck. The "Learn in your car" segment has a booklet to go with the CD. I find this necessary, but you can,t read it while you drive. Also the spanish speaker talks to fast. He repeats it twice in spanish, both times fast. It would be better if it was slow once and then again faster. I also own the Pimsleur Spanish and also the methods of Michel Thomas. It gets rather old sticking to one system and I like using the other methods as a change of pace.

5-0 out of 5 stars Biggest bang for the buck
Out of all the language learning systems out there Penton's are by far and away the best and the best value. Spanish 24 packs an incredible amount of content into a single package and at Amazon's price the value simply cannot be beat.

4-0 out of 5 stars Easy to Read,
I've been using the Delorme maps for quite a while and I've always groaned that they're too busy, don't have regional maps, and that I couldn't get a quality sense of what really was there by the way the elevations were presented.I think I'm satisfied with the Benchmark maps.In a way, they seem like what I'd see if I looked at a satellite photo. The colors are very pleasing on the eyes, they have regional and national maps, and the recreation listings are on par or even better than those in Delorme. The representation of elevations is done with color, but there are limitations to this method, as in some instances several thousand feet of elevation are lumped together as one color. Benchmark is now my recreation atlas of choice--not the perfect all around atlas, but definitely closer to the goal.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent guide book.
This guidebook's title is right on: it's not for tourists. It's for those of us who are moving to Boston and need good maps, information on T-stops and bus lines (very helpful, as no other guidebook I've seen shows bus lines), restaurants, bars, etc.We don't need information on fancy hotels and the Freedom Trail- for that, a different guidebook might do.But this is the one worth buying and keeping tucked in your purse or bag when you're out and about in the city.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent little book
I bought this book shortly before my husband and I moved north of Boston. It has been a fantastic resource for our travels into the city. This is the only book you need to bring with you to Boston. No big, bulky map is necessary. It shows how to easily navigate the public transportation system and specific instructions on how to arrive at your destination. It is written in an unbiased, straightforward and sometimes humorous fashion.
