5-0 out of 5 stars This course isn't for sissies
If you are looking to pick up a little Spanish for a trip abroad, then this isn't the course for you. However, if you are serious about learning Spanish and are committed to working at it, then this is your ticket to success!
5-0 out of 5 stars Cinco Estrellas Para Platiquemos!
The Platiquemos method is based on the best-selling FSI (Foreign Service Institute) method. I feel that I am qualified to give this review not only because I am the Founder of the Learning Spanish Like Crazy method but also because I have absorbed every FSI Spanish course on the market. That includes FSI Fast Course Spanish, FSI Programmatic Spanish 1 and 2, Barrons Mastering Spanish 1 and 2 (aka FSI Spanish 1 and 2 as opposed to FSI "Programmatic" Spanish), and FSI Spanish 3 and 4. In fact, I credit the FSI method for giving me the building blocks that enabled me to learn to speak Spanish so easily. After studying with the FSI method, the Pimsleur and Rosetta Stone Spanish courses were a piece of cake for me.
3-0 out of 5 stars NOT AS GOOD AS THE ORIGINAL, BUT MADE FORA SERIOUS LEARNER!
As someone who gained fluency in Spanish by studying it for the past 10-years, as well as through my travels, I am constantly analyzing the various Spanish language programs that are out on the market today. I have used the original FSI Spanish program as well as the Platiquemos updated FSI Spanish program and have opinions and recommendations for both.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great learning Tool
As a Spanish 2 and 3 teacher I highly reccomend this book. I use it as a reference myself because it has great explanations and the order of the grammar structures is useful. I would reccomend getting an answer key along with the book. This is a great book to refresh your memory on grammatical structures.
5-0 out of 5 stars Un Repaso Perfecto
Repaso was used as my school textbook for higher level Spanish courses in high school.Everything is great about it.The instructions are in English which makes it even more compatable. The book is able to review old concepts, but has enough to teach the little proper things about Spanish. It is a great purchase for any student that is just learning Spanish or has been taking it for many years and needs a reference.

3-0 out of 5 stars No Answers Given Here
Although I agree that this book is certainly a bargain when compared to the standard textbook options that often cost 3-4 times as much, I was disappointed to find that no solutions to the exercises are provided. One must purchase ANOTHER book before the exercises in this book can really be said to be useful. I am a firm believer in immediate correction when it comes to language review and acquisition--spending time on exercises without knowing which you did wrong will only reinforce what are your misunderstandings of grammar. However, if you are willing (and able) to buy the solutions manual along with this book, then it will make a good review--though it won't be the bargain that it at first appeared. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars One of the better Spanish-Eng;lish dictionaries
My Master's thesis was a review and rating of Spanish-English dictionaries. I find this dictionary, like all the other Larousse dictionaries, to be a good choice.
4-0 out of 5 stars easy to use
The dictionary fit easily in the outside pocket of the small backpack that I carried on a recent vacation in Mexico, so it was on the spot with the info that I needed when I needed it.

4-0 out of 5 stars Very good beginner dictionary, but I don't see 45,000 translations
This dictionary is really good for beginners.I agree with all the comments in the reviews posted by others about the usefulness of this dictionary, its layout, its print size and spacing, the use of words in a phrase or sentence, etc.
4-0 out of 5 stars Larousse Student Dictionary Spanish-English/English Spanish
This is a great reference book. The words are highlighted so they are easy to find and the print is large enough for easy reading. The picture section in the middle gives great visual support for the words being illustrated. The sample sentences given for each word really help with the understanding of the word. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Poorly Made
Although many people use this dictionary for their classes, I have noticed that they do no spend enough time to update the dictionary. There are many current words that are not in, like blog. However, the most unappeling thing is that their books as poorly make. They one section of the dictionary in one font, and oter sections in another, it looke like they just put pieces together.
4-0 out of 5 stars Varying Dialects
It is quite complete with all the verb forms, comjugations and tenses that we learned in High School. But, because of the varying dialects, there were a few words I could not find. Living in the Southwest, the Mexican influence over the Spanish is marked. For instance the word 'estraner'or 'te estrano', for "I Miss You"is not in this dictionary which made it a disappointment for me.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great for basic levels
I've had this dictionary for about eight years.I would have to say that if you are in the basic levels of learning spanish or maybe reading a simple novel in spanish, this would be your best bet.It is easy to use and easy to read although a little bulky. The only complaint that I have about it is that as I began reading more difficult novels and encountering words that are less common, this dictionary did not come into as great a use as it has in years past. But, like I said if you are doing beginning or intermediate levels of spanish, this would probably be your best bet. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Just as Good as Promised
When I want to buy a product I research it a great deal and that I did with the American Heritage Spanish Dictionary, 2nd Edition (Hardcover). I've had it for 3 days and it is indispensible if you want to learn Latin American Spanish, which most so-called good dictionaries do not concentrate on at all! It even had mofongo, a dish from the Dominican Republic, listed! All the other dictionaries I've had didn't even list foods, much less specialities from various Latin American countries.
5-0 out of 5 stars Best value in Spanish<>English dictionaries
As a professional Spanish translator, I do not find myself referring to this dictionary much, preferring instead the world's current best Spanish<>English dictionary, The HarperCollins Spanish Unabridged Dictionary, which is twice as heavy, twice as comprehensive, and often twice the price of this one. Still, for anyone who is not a professional translator, who does not want to cart around a dictionary weighing well over six pounds (this one weighs just under three), or who just wants the best dictionary possible on a budget, the American Heritage Spanish Dictionary is the best value out there.*

1-0 out of 5 stars Spanish Text Book
The odering process was easy and came in a timely fashion.I am very satisfied

1-0 out of 5 stars Choose another Spanish book, if you can.
As a Spanish teacher and native speaker I wouldn't recommend this book to my worst student. I had the "pleasure" to teach this book for 3 years (formerly named "Bienvenidos", "A bordo" and "Buen Viaje")and I didn't like it the least. The publishers came up with a new format this year but although it looks more attractive you can still find many of the SAME old activities and many of the old pictures. The vocabulary section at the end of each chapter don't have the English translation what makes it quite difficult for the student when reviewing vocabulary. They have improved the culture sections, though; but still it is not good enough. If you learn Spanish using this book, please THANK your teacher, he/she has a lot of work to do when using this book. Buena suerte!

4-0 out of 5 stars Two Teachers
This book has good info. Not only Spanish words, but a LOT of cultural history, maps, photos, etc. They have really good, clear, explanations. I used this book for my Spanish class. But, the book alone won't get you to speak fluent Spanish. Of course, my teacher played a HUGE role in teaching me, but theis book is great. Who knows, maybe if we finished the whole book, I'd be fluent, but it IS worth it. Trust me. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Too easy
This past school year I took Spanish I with this textbook.I was never so unchallenged and unmotivated in my life.I gave this book 2 stars for vocabulary building, but don't count on it for anything else.

1-0 out of 5 stars Horrible. Just horrible.
I have no clue why my high school depends so much on these books. I show these textbooks to my family members (who happen to be from Costa Rica, Venezuela, and Spain) and we all just laughed at the sheer lunacy of these textbooks. We'd learn more Spanish in "America: The Book" than from the Holt books. The translations, dialogue, reviews, and examples were all trivial and laughably disorganized. How do they expect students to learn Spanish when 60% of the text is in English? There are much more efficient and easier ways to learn Spanish, the easiest language on Earth, than from an arbitrary slop of Holt publishing. I recommend Rosetta Stone, instead.

2-0 out of 5 stars A decent Spanish textbook for average-slow paced learners.
In my school they used this book for Spanish I.I found that although it was adequate, it went at a pretty slow pace.Throughout the entire book, as far as verbs go, it only teaches the present active verb conjugations, the simple concept of being going to do something, and at the very end, the present progressive, which translates to I am running (etc.).

2-0 out of 5 stars Beautiful Writing; Offensive, Racist Material
The majority of this book (at least the essays anyway) can be summed up in three main topics: educating readers about her culture, praising her culture to the point of absurdity, and claiming the entire white culture to be both ignorant and racist.
1-0 out of 5 stars an excruciatingly painful read - only do so if you must
This book is a tormented stream of consciousness from a lady who was obviously fighting major demons. It is exactly the type of book that you would expect an amateur academic to "wow" and "gush" over. The discerning reader, on the other hand, sees page after page of outdated cliches, sob-stories, and anger-filled tantrums.Anzaldua would like you to believe that this is all the fault of the "white" culture messing with the enlightened cosmic race of the mestiza. She'd like you to think that her mestiza/chicana/lesbian/female status completely determined her status in life. The truth is that Gloria was really ugly, and that, more than anything else, made her the bitter, annoying pseudo-intellectual that the was.

1-0 out of 5 stars Racist Garbage
While most reviewers seem to be bent on lauding Gloria Anzaldúa's "insightful and progressive" writings, I can't help but take a different viewpoint. The vast majority of her essays, while cloaked in a sense of righteous equality, are quite simply racist drivel. She speaks of acceptance and tolerance for foreign cultures in America, and harps on the evils of correcting students when they use improper English, yet instills her writing with a blatant and offensive racism.

1-0 out of 5 stars Horrible mistake in regards to PERSIAN GOLF ****************
What the hell is going on... I wonder wich rich royal family in the mid-east has funded this unbeleivable mistake!!!
1-0 out of 5 stars Historical information in this book was manipulated
In this book, unfortunately due to powerful anti-Iranian (Persian) activities and the typical incompetence of the Islamic Republic that occupies Iran, the southern states of the Persian Gulf who have only come to existence thanks to foreign powers, have slowly become more brazen. As a result the National Geographic Society has printed at least three major erroneous statements in its Atlas of the World 2005 (Eighth Edition, ISBN: 0-7922-7543-8 & ISBN: 0-7922-7542-x) regarding Iran and the Persian Gulf.

5-0 out of 5 stars Probably the best spanish pocket dictionary
I have been studying spanish for five years and have supplemented my study by reading at least 60 spanish books and although I own about 10 spanish dictionaries the one I use 90% of the time due to its size and reliability isel diccionario del espanol moderno. Es el mejor de todos.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great because it's entirely in Spanish!
The reason I bought this book is because I believe that the best way for me to learn Spanish is without constant reference to English.Show me the word, give me the Spanish definition.Don't translate.I wanted a Spanish ONLY diccionario. All other dictionaries are really "translationaries." 5-0 out of 5 stars Atlas on DVD
Just to answer Craig: Try the Microsoft Encarta DVD. It includes a world atlas that alone is worth the price. When zoomed all the way out, it is like a globe you can turn with your mouse. At the highest magnification it presents more detail than any atlas I know of. All country names and many city names and geological features are hot linked to the encyclopedia articles. There are many interactive ways of using this atlas including choosing themes like population density, precipitation, and statistics.
4-0 out of 5 stars I'm humbled but I need your help
I have not bougght this atlas.Maybe I will BUT WHAT I REALLY WANT IS SOMETHING of superb detail that is on a DVD.Does ANYBODY make such a thing?
2-0 out of 5 stars The formation of Arabian Gulf?
National Geographic Atlas has always been a great informational source. However, I was quite shocked by what I saw in the last edition (the 8th).I am sure most of those who have bought this Atlas or had a chance to look at it by now, have noticed the formation of a new gulf that never existed before, Arabian Gulf! It's sad how money can replace names even in the map (Arabian Gulf instead of Persian Gulf!)What National Geographic hasn't noticed yet is how its credibility has dropped among the intellectual crowd and many others are enraged by this act.I never thought history can be distorted, but with what I saw from National Geographic, which has lost it's credibility among those that understand the impact of this change, I am not so sure any more. It's unfortunate and humiliating what money can do! ...
