5-0 out of 5 stars I have nothing bad to say about this book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Prepared for the LA Market-Whoa!
This book is the only book you will need if buying a home in California. I am in my early thirties and knew nothing about the housing market in California until reading this easy and thorough guide to California home buying.
5-0 out of 5 stars Informative and easy to understand
This book explains all the little nuances about buying a house.I read the whole thing and parts of it more than once before I bought my first house. It is well organized so that you can read just certain chapters if you need specific information right away.I actually sold my copy online after my house closed.Later, I ended up buying a copy as a gift for a friend.I recommend this book to all my friends who are thinking about buying a house. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Very Helpful
Oh thanksgiving day, I am thankful for this book and the great help it was for me during the past year.
5-0 out of 5 stars The Best Book on the Subject
This is the only book you will need to help you apply to law school. The author covers everything from personal statements to Loan repayment programs at top schools. The author focus on top twenty schools but the information should be helpful to anyone. The best part is hundreds of quotes on all subjects directly from the deans of admissions at top schools. It includes quotes from the deans at every school in the top 15 in the U.S. News and world report rankings and a number of other institutions including Boston College, George Washington, USC, UCLA, and Boston University. This is particularly helpful if you are targeting one of these top schools. There are executive summaries at the end of the chapters if you don't have time to read the entire book. This work will help anyone taking the application process seriously to maximize their chances of getting into the best school they can.

4-0 out of 5 stars best for people who are still deciding whether to apply
This book certainly has some helpful information, but the author spends a good bit of time trying to help the reader make sure that he/she wants to go to law school and wants to be a laywer. He does some motive-chekcing (Why do want to go to LS? Are you sure you're doing it for the right reasons? etc). This may prove helpful for those who are still unsure, but not for those who have already thought through these questions.

Editorial Review

The laws covering intellectual property--those products of theimagination with commercial value, such as fictional writing, software designs, product names, and mechanical inventions--have long boggled the minds of the uninitiated. With the advent of online commerce and publishing, the issues have only gotten more confusing. The new edition of Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars The book is subpar
I bought this book as a primer reference to patents. What I got was a dictionary of words. This book pretty much is a dictionary without a lot of explanations.Really basic terms also.A lot of basic paraphrasing instead of actual text from the 35 USC manual.

5-0 out of 5 stars Legal Information without the Legalese
This book is easy-to-use and highly detailed with an appealing, bulleted layout and many illustrations that helped to answer most of my basic questions about the four categories of intellectual property (copyright, patents, trademarks and trade secrets).I took a graduate-level library science course on the legal aspects of information and borrowed several books on IP from the library. This Nolo Press book was the one that I kept coming back to and wound up buying.I was glad I waited for the updated 7th edition, which now includes an index. The book is divided into completely logical sections on definitions, statutes, forms and an overview, all of which make this book a joy to read. The text is written in plain English and the entries are cross-referenced and other resources are given. This is a legal book written by lawyers, but the legalese is edited out and only very useful information remains. If you need one basic legal reference book on IP, this is the one you'll keep reaching for.

4-0 out of 5 stars Very Good
This has a lot of detail and organized information that a patent applicant might use. However, it does not provide an overview quite as well as something like "Patents for Beginners" (PfB). For patent applicants, I would recommend getting both books, but someone like a jurist or an expert witness might be better served by PfB. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A convenient concise OVERVIEW
This is quick 85-page overview of the patent process. It provides the key steps, requirements, and definitions in very plain terms (almost in the same style of language as the IRS's 1040EZ instructions). However, it steers clear from giving ADVICE.If you need advice, try Patent It Yourself, from Nolo Press.
3-0 out of 5 stars Government publication that needs a new edition
This is not the first place to start if you're interested in the patent process. The law is dynamic and this book was out of date years ago. There are many other books out there that will outline the basics in a much more reliable way.Look for a book that will discuss World Trade Organization provisions and other international aspects of IP law - otherwise it's too limiting.Never choose to file for a patent application yourself.Use references to educate yourself on the process and then if you want to pursue this expensive process (which can become more expensive if you make an error) find a registered agent or attorney.

4-0 out of 5 stars A Good Introduction
This book offers a simple, straightforward interoduction to patent law. If you are starting from scratch, this is a good place to start. There isn't much "how to" in this book, so it's probably best for someone who plans to work with a patent lawyer or service. ... Read more

Editorial Review

Thanks to TV cop shows, most Americans can probably recite the Miranda warnings, but do they know when the warnings do--and do not--apply? Tort reformers cite the $2.7 million in punitive damages a jury awarded a little old lady in Albuquerque when the cup of coffee she had set between her legs spilled and scalded her. These crusaders against "excessive" damage awards do not usually note that the trial judge reduced the award to $480,000, or that the coffee was 20 degrees hotter than competitors' coffee.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Law 101: Everything You Need to Know About the American Legal System
This is a great introduction to the different fields of law. This uses recent cases that show now only how the legal field works, but how it has run amuck.

5-0 out of 5 stars Good so far
Before my first year classes started I had read most of the parts that were applicable. The reading definitely gave me some sort of foundation and framework for understanding all the information they throw at you in law school. Some of the reading is a little dry, but compared to some Marshall opinions you'll read for class, this book's a breeze.

5-0 out of 5 stars Heavily academic in dry, concise, and reasonable format
For what it worth, the book is intended for classroom study. It is dry, dense, and concise with heavy emphasis on the history of law and its role in society. The author has relied on few anecdotes to demonstrate how the law is applicable to dispute resolution. Those linger along many chapters and require the reader to follow closely each anecdote in order to discern the applicability of the law.

5-0 out of 5 stars Good not Great
I would have given this book a five star rating, but it did not include two important SSA forms. The forms are sent to a claimant when his/her file is sent to the state office fordevelopment. These two forms are SSA-3373-BK (Function Report- Adult) and SSA-3380-BK (Function Report-Adult-Third Party). The two forms have to do with your Activities of Daily living, and when received have a 10 day return time. The forms can be found on the net, but you have to know they exist.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good Dictionary, useful for translating legal documents
I find this dictionary useful as it contains many terms that aren't found in other Sp<>Eng legal dictionaries. I give it 4 stars rather than 5 because it contains numerous basic translations (tio = uncle, ciclo =cycle, doctor = doctor, error =error, grupo = group, guerra = war, posible = possible, silencio = silence; etc.) that in my opinion don't belong in a specialized dictionary. Also, I purchased this after reading another reader's review, which stated that the dictionary contains translations of entire phrases, which is not entirely true. 5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Content
As a professional translator and interpreter, I have used this book for translating legal documents and contracts and found it extremely well put together. The best part about it is that it takes short legal phrases and translates the entire phrase so that you get an exact translation of the entire phrase as found in your legal documents; you don't have to look for each word in a difficult phrase individually and then hope the result has the same affect in the translation; This book was very easy to use and understand.Awesome tool for anyone wanting to accurately translate or interpret legal terminology.Worth the investment; a good addition to any law library. ... 1-0 out of 5 stars Aleister Crowley's testament to his own self-deception. . .
I've yet to encounter a "channelled" work -- and had Crowley "received" this book in the 1980's, that's what it would have been called -- whose author's "spirit guide" didn't resemble a child's imaginary playmate.
5-0 out of 5 stars do what thou wilt
93; the current. 418 is the house.this book is for fools. This book can not be reviewed. The author is from another time and place. The meaning is somewhat distorted, but all in plane light. If you read this book it will plant a magick seed in your mind that will grow with sun light and water.

5-0 out of 5 stars Gnosis for the New Age
Regardless of how some people may feel about Crowley, his works stand on their own. "The Book of the Law", is his most personal, central work, and Thelemite or no, you would have to lack a soul if you did not at the very least find much of the language contained therein as being quite beautiful, insightful, and inspired. This book will hit you in the head like a ton of bricks, and its prose and music is very comparable to many ancient religious writings, and we have the benefit of knowing that it has never lost anything in translation as it was originally written in the English language. For comparable writings....try "The Nag Hammadi Library", Carl Jungs "Seven Sermons to the Dead", and "The Holy Fire of St. Michael" by Richard Michael Willoughby. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A Great Read
I appreciate Edward Levi's attention to detail. This book definitely goes beyond the standard textbook in terms of putting together a guide that is both interesting to read and informative.I'd recommend it to anybody in my situation, planning to attend law school, or even to practicing attorneys in need of a handy, compact reference guide to the basics.

5-0 out of 5 stars Law of the land
The power to determine the law of the land resides within every citizen of the country by means of electing the officials they choose and the judicial system only upholds the law. The citizens of a country elect their leaders and once elected they are enshrined with the right to uphold the economic and political stability but any improper actions of a government should be corrected by means of the judicial process rather than by any political process. All differing opinions should be allowed to coexist with checks and balances as determined by the judicial system. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Short, sweet, and to the point
After reading this book you can probably be an executor for an estate without hiring an attorney (assuming no legal documents have to be prepared or filed in court). I found this book in the reference section of the Westfield Pubic Library (NJ) along with its companion book: A Family Guide to Wills, Funerals & Probate (ISBN: 081604550X). This book was written for an executor to read, and the companion book concerned much of the same material but for the decedent to read before he or she dies.

I purchased this book months ago to prepare myself for the future when I will have to handle my mother's affairs. To my absolute surprise, I have recently been appointed as administrator of my long lost cousin's estate.Yeap, he died intestate, without a will. 5-0 out of 5 stars Simple and straightforward - includes CD with forms!
This book (6th edition) has taken a BIG weight off of my mind regarding writing a will.My husband and I currently don't have a will (and apparently have lots of company - reportedly 60% of Americans don't have wills), but I am in the process of changing that with the reassuring help of this book.
5-0 out of 5 stars Will writing is easy.
I bought this book mostly because I wanted my daughter in the right hands if something were to happen to both my husband and I.Peace of mind knowing that she will indeed end up with the people we select is worth a million and we didn't to have to spend much money to set this up.This book is great to have your wishes put down so everything is distributed how you want it.Much more convenient then going to a lawyer and saves you a lot of money.

5-0 out of 5 stars A friendly, but realistic, guide to law school
Deaver's book is a good, light read. The main, primary focus of the book is to: (1) introduce you to an outlining system to prepare for your exams (and to help you study for them) and (2) to give you a brief, but reasonably thorough review of your entire law school experience, from the pros and cons of law review to how to write a good scholarly paper. Note the short page length--only about 200 pages. Thus, the book doesn't cover *everything* about law school, but it is a very good start. In addition to law school itself, it has some good overviews and tips about job prospects, the legal profession, summer opportunities, etc. It also has a brief overview of the LSAT and application process, although these areas are really not that informative to be worthy of publication (the main point of the book is, as I said, the outlining system and a rough overview of the law school experience itself--which this book does very well). It is written in an easy, casual manner and the author can be funny at times, too. All in all, a good, light, easy read about how to best study for law school classes.

4-0 out of 5 stars Law School
This was an excellent book; I am still working on my undergraduate degree planning on attending law school. I know people who are attorneys and I have received there feedback but this book was so much more in depth and precise. I am doing a lot of research on what to expect during law school and how to get into a high tier institution. This book tells it all from admissions to class selection to internships. Law school confidential is a must read if you are planning towards law school.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent if you're not sure if law school is what you want.
My ten year career has been in software development management. I have aspirations for business management as well as politics. So I thought perhaps a J.D. would help me further those goals. This book helped inform me exactly what to expect in law school, the tests, the application process, etc. It gives some ideas of what one can do with the degree, etc. It's a nice short book that you can read in one sitting. It was nice to be able to do that and figure out whether or not I really wanted to invest 3 years in law school. ... Read more
