Ridiculous name for a dog.
Moobli.Ridiculous name for a dog, if you ask me.However, what a dog and what a life.The author decides he needs a dog to help and companion him during his self inflicted lonliness in the middle of the lastwilderness in Britain. From the beginning, when the puppy cannot take hiseyes off Tomkies, to the inevitably sad ending, we read the diary of amagnificent beast and its intense relationship with the one human heknows. Beautiful and moving story. A must for every animal lover.
Moobli is Mike Tomkies's much loved German Shephard dog. He is his constant and virtually only companion for nearly 9 years living together in the isolated Scottish wilderness. As good as it gets
I was diagnosed with bipolar disorder in March 2006 after having struggled for 19 years with its symptoms.At last I was put on the right medication, only to find out that lithium gives me severe headaches.So now I am taking depakote, and I read from this book all the time.This newer (second) edition has some important additions, so if you have the first edition, I highly recommend getting this one.I have often had mixed epidodes, and Dr. Mondimore does his best to explain this rare and poorly understood mood state.I could add a few things about it, having experienced them myself.He also does a good job of explaining bipolar disorder in children.I think I had it starting at age 7, which is rare but does happen.Information on children with bipolar disorder is hard to find, and when you do find it, it is usually not very helpful in its level of detail and explanation.I found the information on medications (including anti-psychotic medications, one of which I take) to be very helpful.This section has more information than the first edition had.Overall, I highly recommend this book even if you suffer from a more unusual manifestation of the disease, as do I.

Easy to read with lots of information
As a psychologist who has taught abnormal psychology at the college level for many years, I was impressed by the depth of coverage and the writing style of the author. The author explains in plain language what is known about the disorder and how to cope with it. It can be read by the professional and the non-professional alike. I purchased this book for a friend who has bipolar disorder and is not a professional. She loves the book.

A "Must Read" for Those with Family Members or Friends with bipolar mood disorder
Many books about bipolar disorder are either for psychiatrists or are just generally uninformative.This book is written by a psychiatrist, but for lay persons.Bipolar mood disorder is a disease.This book discusses symptoms, treatment, and how to recognize those with the disease.Case studies are illustrative and helpful.Highly recommended, particularly if your life is affected by someone who you think has bipolar mood disorder. ... Las Hermanas Aguero
The book seems to be good, but the translation is poor, and it is full of spelling errors - I only wished I had read the book in original language to really enjoy it!Between the translation and the spelling errors, it is very hard to read!! It is not a relaxing exercise any more.Pity!

Love-Hate Relationship with the southern way of life
I enjoy Pat Conroy's books and have read all of them (most more than once), and Beach Music is one of his best (along with Prince of Tides and The Great Santini).I enjoy his love-hate affair of that his characters have with the south and in particular the low country of Charleston, South Carolina.I know it is a trademark of his to spin his yarn about tales of Charleston and South Carolina, but I think it is getting a tad bit old and wish that he could expand his horizons and write about another part of the country or region.Don't get me wrong, I sincerely enjoy Conroy's work but at times it gets a bit long in the tooth about how his characters hate (but inside themselves) love South Carolina.

Not Very Well Written
As a big fan of L.M. Montgomery's books I looked forward to reading a book about her life hoping to get a better idea of what she might have been like. Perhaps it was the author's style of writing..lots of silly quotes about birds, trees, etc. Also very little about her family other than her husband's melancholy but hardly anything about her two sons. I hope the next bio will have more substance.

groundbreaking bio
This to date has been the best biography on L. M. Montgomery, as most of the others simply re-hash each other both in content and in photos. This one covers new ground though, and covers old ground in a new and more insightful and thorough way. I especially liked how Mollie Gillen brings out Maud's contradictory nature, showing us that the public Maud (cheerful dutiful wife of a minister) was often at odds with the private Maud, a woman who often felt repressed, depressed, and stressed over events in her life.
