4-0 out of 5 stars A good "door" to be opened by those interested for Innovation
A collection of reviews in Innovation Strategies/Policies/Theories/Practices some of them related with case studies in big companies.
5-0 out of 5 stars state of the art on innovation
I'm searching for new ways to develop an entrepreneurial area at the university, and this book gave us more tools and knowledge to center in creativity rather than business plan the entrepreneurial curricula.
3-0 out of 5 stars A Good Introduction to Innovation
While by no means a great book, this collection of articles on innovation from the Harvard Business Review is a good introduction to the art of innovation, as it is written in a simple but effective style. The articles also address the topic of innovation in a variety of ways, thus ensuring that almost everyone will find something useful that is written in a style conducive to their preferences.

5-0 out of 5 stars An absolutely delicious anthology...
I purchased this book for a class, but was delighted to discover that I will definitely want to hang onto it afterwards. The translations chosen for the 'Ancient World' portion are, for the most part, delightfully vivid and capture the spirit of the original language.I also like the layout - the margin size is just perfect for taking notes. ... 2-0 out of 5 stars Software does not record answers!
When taking the practice tests, you cannot save your speaking test answers. So, you're just talking into the air... Also, you can save the writing section only in the practice mode. In the test mode, your essay simply disappears....The Longman has a much better CD-ROM.

4-0 out of 5 stars Excelent Book
I tried 3 books for TOEFL IBT; this one was the best of all, it have 7 complete tests, and 10 Audio CDs with a good price. and also a section for teaching the technics. I thing it is almost perfect. and it delivered much faster that exepted. Have fun with TOEFL. Good luck for all.

5-0 out of 5 stars Tools for excellence
This book is set up for anyone to have many tools for them to use at anytime. It has flowcharting, public speaking, many diagrams, and several team based exercises to help become better. In the front of the book it has a tool selector, and it takes some of the guess work out of tool selection. This is just one of many great books this company offers. Our copmany uses several of these in our professional training with our clients. This is a really good book for those looking for continuous improvement. The Memory Jogger Plus is an excellent book also and has many great tools and other goodies.

I first used this as a high school student then later at university doing engineering. It's so worn it's due for replacement. Handy size, useful tools, practical. Worth every cent.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Solid Foundation
The Pimsleur philosophy is that one should start learning a foreign language similarly to a first language. Without writing anything, and without detailed grammatical discussion you hear and repeat until the language begins to feel natural. This made a lot of sense to me when I thought about how much English grammar I "know" through experience but can't easily articulate because I never studied much grammar in school. For instance, could you immediately explain when it's correct to use the word "some" vs "any"?
3-0 out of 5 stars Overrated
Pimsleur is far overrated. True, it teaches (formal) conversation skills, but lacks a text, and costs too much. It's also quite boring. I reccomend the Rosetta Stone instead. It teaches you how to read, and in Level 2 it contains a decent amount of conversation vocab. Also, it can analyze your speech and *graphically* show you your pronunciation vs. the correct pronounciation.
4-0 out of 5 stars Terrific program for beginners -- with reservations
I've gone through all 3 full sets of Pimsleur Mandarin Chinese. If you'd have asked me immediately after I'd finished them what I thought of the series, I'd have given it 5 stars without hesitation. However, after spending the past year trying to advance past what I've learned via the Pimsleur series, I've come across some reservations which prevent me from giving it a 5 star review anymore. While I do feel the Pimsleur method is incredibly useful and (despite its seeming simplicity) very innovative, I think their Mandarin Chinese series also suffers from simply being "plugged in" to the standard Pimsleur format, rather than receiving the customization that would help users truly understand the Chinese language, which has many quirks unique to it.

5-0 out of 5 stars My favorite
I am an EFL teacher and have dictionaries of different publishers. MW9 was my first dictionary of a kind and it started the life-long romance with this beautiful piece of lexicography. The 11th edition is a step forward, the only thing lacking being the list of colleges and universities in US and Canada, which I do miss. Otherwise, the only competition this dictionary can have is the new edition of Oxford Advanced Learner's Dictionary by OUP, but I still think MW11 is more up-to-date and interesting to use.

3-0 out of 5 stars Missing some stuff
I bought this dictionary for the CD ROM that comes with it.Websters makes by far the best computer dictionary available and when you combine it with the computer thesaurus you have a very powerful writing tool.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great leaders inspire others to lead
This book does a great job of focusing on Lincoln's leadership traits without get sidetracked on other aspects of Lincoln's life and times. This focus on leadership traits, combined with the relative short length of the book (about 170 pages) and the author's compelling writing style, make it a quick and delightful read.
5-0 out of 5 stars A New Appreciation for Lincoln
After reading this book, I have developed an entirely new appreciation for Abraham Lincoln. While always believing him to be one of the greatest leaders of the country, I never really grasped why he was a great leader until now.Phillips does a superb job here of gleaning Lincoln's leadership principles from the many details available regarding the 16th president's life.
4-0 out of 5 stars An interesting and helpful read!
Before my review, let's have a quick reference of it per chapters/principles delivered by the author.

5-0 out of 5 stars THIS IS JUST A WONDERFUL BOOK
and it leaves you feeling so darned good after you read it.The main characters, Owen, a baby hippo, and Mzee, a 130 year old Aldabra tortoise, form a remarkably close bond which continues to this day (and can be followed in their caretaker's diary on the website of Laforge Ecosystems, that lost nearly 250 employees in the December 16, 2004 tsunami, and which contributed to Owen's washing up on a coral reef in the Indian Ocean off the coast of Malindi, Kenya).
5-0 out of 5 stars Owen & Mzee
This is a wonderful story, to be enjoyed by both children and adults. The message is universal and inspirational showing that friendship has no boundries. The book is well illustrated with some incredible pictures.

3-0 out of 5 stars Great for the novice Risk Manager
If you are a budding Risk Manager/ Officer or are considering a career move towards Risk Management, this book is a good high-level illustration of what the major sleeves of Risk Management has to offer.
5-0 out of 5 stars This book is a must read for all mid-level and executive level managers
James Lam has written a remarkably clear and relevant portrayal of how [enterprise] risk management can be used to deliver real value in any business.

Although I consider this to be one of the best handbooks for a quick superficial review, there are several other books which allow for more in depth learning while on the wards... such as The Consult Manual of Internal Medicine & of course... The Washington Manual. I would definitely carry around, or at least have handy, one of these while on the wards. Editorial Review

Writing for the screen is quirky business. A writer must labor meticulously over his or her prose, yet very little of that prose is ever heard by filmgoers. The few words that do reach the audience, in the form of the characters' dialogue, are, according to Robert McKee, best left to last in the writing process. ("As Alfred Hitchcock once remarked, 'When the screenplay has been written and the dialogue has been added, we're ready to shoot.' ") In Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars By far the best book on the subject
I don't have much to add to what has been written about this remarkable book, except to say that McKee has more brains and more common sense than any writer I've seen on the subject. He spells out principles rather than rules, shows how they apply equally to a Hollywood blockbuster and a Bergman film, and most remarkably explains how things that appear to be exceptions to these principles are in fact, not.Start your reading on the subject here; everything else is just a footnote.

5-0 out of 5 stars Robert McKee is Truly a Master of His Craft
'Story' has helped me immensely. This book is to all writers what Stephen King's book ("On Writing") is to novelists.
5-0 out of 5 stars Great book on screenwriting, great presentation
I am a writer, not a screenwriter but found this book, that was recommended by a friend, to be outstanding for writers as well. The author takes you step by step, in incredible, logical detail, through the process of communicating and screenwriting. The concepts he uses, the style, it is all very easy to understand and while it takes a will to read it, an interest in the craft but it is well worth the read if you're interested in the topic. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Take it for what it is!
Some writers need to not take themselves so seriously here. This is *not* a textbook on writing or publishing. There's no advice or sage wisdom on plot or character or dialogue or style. Chris doesn't tell you how to format your manuscript so as not to be marked an amateur by a publisher. It never claimed to be that. He tells you up front it's not that. There are hundreds of other books that address these issues.
5-0 out of 5 stars Try it, I dare you!:)
I purchased Chris Baty's "No Plot? No Problem!" when it came out in 2004, read through it and thought, "hey, I could try this, but maybe later."Well, "later" became two years.I picked it back up this summer, read it cover to cover and picked August as the month in which I would write my next novel in its entirety.I did what Baty said, created a small support group, found plenty of blocks of time, even signed the contract in the book (and I don't write in books!).I was on my way.I threw convention and sense to the wind and finished my first writing day with nearly 1600 words and a cramp in my hand.I could do this.Day 2 I was still optimistic even though I couldn't think of much to say and had just over half of the previous day's word count. So, it'd be harder than I thought, but I could do this.
5-0 out of 5 stars Great for people just starting out...
There are many of us out there who have never published a novel but who wanted to give an effort to write one.We walk into a book store and search, high and low, for that one perfect book that we believe will help us write that novel. The problem is, which book to buy?

5-0 out of 5 stars Welding: Principles and Applications
Book was in very good condition. Prompt shipment. Ordered on a Friday, recieved on Monday. Very happy. Will definitley do business with this person again if such a need arises.

4-0 out of 5 stars Extremely thorough theory, could use some practical guidelines
This is book is basically a college text on welding-- anda fine one at that.It covers the theory of all the major welding processes (MIG, TIG, Stick, Flux-cored) in dazzling detail with beautiful color photos and diagrams. This includes some simple-to-understand physics of each welding process, explanations of various types of welding equipment, weld joint designs, welding positions, weave patterns, etc.If you read this book cover-to-cover, you will have a thorough grasp of all the theoritical aspects of welding. No other text even comes close to this book in these areas.
5-0 out of 5 stars A college text on Welding
This is the book we used in a college-level welding course I took. It covers virtually every aspect of welding from oxy-fuel, stick, MIG, TIG, SMAW, cutting, basic metallurgy, brazing, welding certification requirements, etc. This text is very detailed and you can directly reference chapters on welding processesyou're interested in doing without having to read the entire (very thick) book. 5-0 out of 5 stars you're wrong
Scrabble is not about words, and someone of your rating should know that.

5-0 out of 5 stars book is very helpful
Ising this dictionary has helped me to become a better player.

4-0 out of 5 stars The "official" word on what's acceptable
The official scrabble dictionary (OSD) serves its purpose: it is the authority when settling disputes. The make quality is that of your average mass market paperback, and so is the price. The definitions, on the other hand, are really perfunctory (but what do you expect?). Some words in the dictionary, like Za, Ka, and Ai, are surprising because they're not found in the commonly owned dictionaries. This makes playing with the OSD a different game, one in which it pays to memorize these little words.

5-0 out of 5 stars Law Enforcement Exam
I ordered this book to brush up on some basic math that I haven't used in many years. I got it in order to do better on my law enforcement exam. This book covered everything that I needed. It was just right! It walks through the basics and works one up to more complex problems. It includes clear explanations on how to solve the problem and then provides a practice test for each area covered. It even offers some tricks to keep in mind when encountering certain problems. Perfect for a refresher!

2-0 out of 5 stars Very Low level book
I bought this with hope to get my brain used to solving complicated problems quickly. However, the quality of excercises in this book is very very low. I could have made up any of the excercises in the book. Unsatisfied, I returned it in 2 days. Do not buy it if you are very good or even avarage at math. This will not help you.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excelent Math Refreser

4-0 out of 5 stars A Great Perspective
I first bought this book 1.5 years ago when I was researching colleges for my oldest son.It changed the way I looked at selecting colleges from my prior misconceptions that "bigger is better" (like large state schools) and "it has to have a well-known name to be any good."Pope succeeded in convincing me that not only are there invaluable advantages to smaller-size schools but that there is definitely something to be said for "liberal arts & science" institutions that offer a well-rounded curriculum.I was able to relax then because my son had no idea what he wanted to pursue. As a result of reading the book, my son is now attending Cornell College in Iowa where he is getting a wonderful education in small classes with caring instructors and an administration that "took me by the hand," upon his initial arrival as a freshman, & addressed all my fears and concerns about leaving my son with a bunch of strangers 4 hours away.Because the book includes little quantitative information (%'s of in- vs out-of-staters, tuition costs, % of students who graduate/return sophomore year/go to graduate school, etc.) you will need to supplement this book with another, such as the Fiske guide, to give you a basis of comparison across schools.Even if you don't select any of the schools mentioned, it is worth a read if for nothing else other than a refreshing perspective.

3-0 out of 5 stars No schools listed in the west
Wish I had known that the book focused on schools on the east coast, in the midwest, and in the southeast. No California schools are listed.

4-0 out of 5 stars Lots of information to consider and is thought provoking
I have a daughter ready to apply to colleges this fall and have found this book very helpful in planning and sorting through the myriad of information out there.

5-0 out of 5 stars Nice tool for new teachers.
This book is a practical resource for new secondary teachers. The authors discuss classroom set-up, student resources, and behavior problems. There are many ideas ready for application in your own classroom and no boring or unnecessary narratives that most classroom management books have.
5-0 out of 5 stars Harry K. Wong Implements Research of Evertson
In his video series "The Effective Teacher" Part II: The First Days of School, Harry Wong cites the work of Carolyn Evertson and how he implements her research in the classroom:Wong says "Now, why do I assign seats? Now, you may know the name Carolyn Evertson. She is arguably the leading authority on classroom management. She did her work at the Univ. of Texas, Austin campus, many years ago. They wrote a book called Classroom Management for Elementary Teachers and a book called Classroom Management for High School and Junior High School Teachers. They went out and they looked at thousands and thousands of very effective teachers, and they went out and they looked at thousands and thousands of very ineffective teachers, and this is what they discovered. They discovered that effective teachers assign seats on the first day of school..."He shows a graphic of the covers of the two books. This is one of the books he refers to.Harry Wong is the author of the book The First Days of School.Anyone who liked The First Days of School, therefore, might be interested to read this resource that Harry Wong found to be useful.
