balanced or biased?
How interesting that the reviewers comment on the presumed politics of the writer before looking at the quality of the text. More interesting still, that some see the text slanted to the right and others to the left. Well done, Lucas.

Eat That Frog!

To the point
Much of it you already know but sometimes you need some reminding. This book is easy to read, to the point and not inflated with boring repetition like others of it's kind.

Only Decent, Entire Information contained in last 3 Pages!
I was very excited from the creative title, but was overall disappointed with the end result. His advice is valid, but it is stretched out very thin in order to get enough pages for a book. In general he says write your goals down, start immediately, and to do the most important task first. I doubt his readers in particular really need to pay $14 to be reminded of this. Either way, if you want the advice he condenses it to a list of all 21 steps in the last 3 pages! ... Read more

A Must Have for those who teach Reading
I have been doing alot of professional reading on strategies to help my students comprehend what they read.I teach reluctant readers and this is one of the best I've read for middle school comprehension.This puts a new spin on strategies I've already been doing.This book plus Strategic Reading-Guiding Students to Lifelong Literacy 6-12 by Jeffrey Wilhelm are my strategic plans for learning-centered teaching: I do You watch, I do You help, You do I help and You do I watch.Powerful research!!!!

I Read It, but I Don't Get It: Comprehension Strategies for Adolescent Readers
This is one of the most helpful books about teaching struggling readers that I've ever read.The strategies were immediately applicable to my work with learning disabled teenagers, and the book is written in a very clear and conversational style.It's like sitting down for a great discussion with a master reading teacher.Highly recommended.

No "blog" but who cares...
Very contempory with updated word list and the extra photos, diagrams, etc. etc. etc. make this a fine choice for kids of all ages from 2 to 92.I am especially happy they included the 'hoopoe' in the bird category.We have many here in Thailand where I live.

very helpful
My daughters are in the third grade and, we have found this dictionary to be very helpful. It is bright and colorful but, it contains quite a bit of information as well. It helps them not only when they are writing something (to look up the spelling of a word) but also to understand the meaning of words. It gives parts of speech, different tenses, and pronunciation of the word as well. I highly recommend it for anyone looking to buy a dictionary for children. I had bought the Scholastic First Dictionary also but, honestly, we did not use that one much at all. The Children's Dictionary is my pick, for sure.

My son is in 3rd grade. Every week he has to read a new story & learn a list of words from that story. Yesterday, I received the dictionary. Paging through it, it's very easy follow. Professional Coaching
Our company recently hosted a presentation from David Peterson, one of the authors of Leader as Coach.His audience was a small group of HR managers and Training consultants.He provided us with a no nonsense, credible approach to coaching managers and leaders.The title of his presentation was quite true to that title, providing us with a clear vision of the state of the art and insights into the state of the practice. This book has been my guide for my active research project.
This book has been both inspirational and motivational for me.I love the quotes and have used them when sending memos to people involved in my Masters active research project. The few colorful pictures are beautifuland representative of reaching high for the stars. The texture of the paperused is similar to a magazine's. I almost felt I was reading one, whichfelt more like leisure reading. The book is short, easy to read, and to thepoint. I've taken much of the advise while I've engaged as a leader in myproject.I've made efforts to become a better listener, give positivefeedback, inspire people to take risks, and built a bond of trust. Ilearned that I have to model the good habits I'd like others to practice. The strategies suggested are a must for people in the business world andadminstrators or leaders in education. Nothing better...period
Despite the fact many have tried to "pretend" there are other dictionarys/encyclopedias that are better than The Groves, there simply are not.Sure, The Groves is not cheap, however, if you are looking for a quality work, it will never be cheap.So, whether you are a person with degrees in Music History, or someone who just wants to have information readily available on music/musicians, this is the only way to go.

Don't believe that you are getting 20 books.
Although the announcement makes you think that maybe yo will be getting 20 books for a song, you will be singing a different tune when it arrives.You will get one (yes, 1) volume selected apparently at random.I got volume 13.

dumbed down
Four stars for what has been carried over from the 1980 version, zero stars for what has been appended to it. We can't entirely blame the dictionary for the poor quality of most of these additions. The dictionary depends on a large pool of contributors, most of whom hold academic positions, and our academies are beset with insufficiently acknowledged problems.Read more

Mind-Expanding
This is one of the best -- and scariest -- business books I've ever read. Christensen clearly illustrates why many of the 'tried and true' formulas really don't work. His research is compelling and is presented clearly enough for non-technical readers. I can't recommend this book highly enough!

Counterintuitive, well-supported, and powerful
This text excels on several levels:It is very readable, and tells a story which is understandable and compelling even at a cursory pace.For the motivated reader, digging deeper, especially spending time on the introduction and each chapter's endnotes, there is a huge amount of data and insight into that data that is well-structured for assimilation.Finally, the theories presented, once understood, become both a lens for interpreting past and current market dynamics, and set the stage for deployable actions in a number of industries.

Fantastic!
I'm a high school student, and I had the privilege of taking medical terminology during my sophomore year.This book was fantastic is teaching complicated topics.The flash cards are great and the outline of it is great as well.

Excellent Medical Terminology Resource
This book was an excellent resource for someone who has little medical background. Difficult concepts were made easy thanks to the included study aids. I especially liked the various memory tips that were given throughout the book. I would highly recommend this book for novices as well as experts.

Excellent Review Book!
I used this book for the first semester of medical school. It gives a quick overview of each system of the human body as well as abbreviations commonly used. It's an easy read. A perfect complement for anyone needing a quick, but thorough, medical terminology overview.

Fantastic book - Recommended for anyone serious about good grades
I read this book right after trying to apply IRAC to my first midterm and doing horribly. After reading the first 50 pages I knew exactly what I did wrong and how I could have handled the question differently. I recommend also doing LEEWS as both methods are similar in that they teach you how to answer legal questions from both sides and arrive at a thoughtful response

Excellent book
I bought this book prior to beginning law school on the advice of the summer reading list.Although I haven't gotten through even my first semester, already what I have read has really made things in class seem clearer and I feel much more confident for the exam.I wholly recommend it.

A mixed bag
This book has some good writing advice, which I appreciate, but I was annoyed by the intrusive religious comments. It should have been marketed as a Christian writing book, or else I wish they had left the religion out of it. I do not expect to find this when I purchase a writing book. I want to hear about writing, not about how God can make me a better writer.
Worth reading and Saving !
This is one of the books that I will keep and re-read.Very well written and inspiring.I LOVED IT !! Made me "want" to write and made me feel that I could actually write something worth reading.

Depressing
I found this book very depressing. Anne Lamott's constant self-deprecation throughout the book caused me to really doubt myself as well. I know she is doing it to show that she's human just like the rest of us, but I think she can show that without hating on herself every chance she gets (saying the 9-year-old version of herself looked like a neurotic cat woman, etc.) despite what she says about how you shouldn't do that. It's like hanging around with a bunch of anorexic models, it gets to you.

Helpful method to direct thinking patterns
All of Dr. de Bono's book are full of tips that make you think about thinking, some go into deep technicalities while other repeat variations-on-a-theme. This book is one of the best I've read on a coherent method to adopt as a group and to even impose on others so as to to have every thought and emotion in its proper and valid compartment.
De Bono will make you THINK
Every so often you read a book that is so obvious that you are amazed you did not see it before. For me, this is such a book. Yes, I could argue about the slow nature of the book, about the style or choice of phrase. However, the very simple idea (singular) at the core hit me like a billiard ball between the eyes at three paces.

Dr. de Bono's method is a simple and powerful one - by concentrating all thinking in one direction and making sure all competing views get attention, a very strong output can be achieved in the minimum timespan. QRI4
I have been using the QRI3 for many years and was very happy that a new version was out with new stories. There are plenty of new stories in this version.It was nice to give a student something they had not memorized or where not familiar with.

Practical & Professional Product
My wife needed an IRI for a recent course. She reported that this book provides different types of readings as opposed to just the story narrative form. The directions for using the IRI were clear and the typeset on the word lists is sharp. She says she is very pleased with this investment and expect to use it in her classroom in the future.

Good Book, Big Inprovement from the 1 edition
Very Good Book. If you didn't know already the CCNA exam is no Joke. You really have to know the concepts and you really need a good book to prepare for it. Cisco is not giving the CCNA Certificate away anymore. They really want you to learn and earn it. I purchase this because I felt the sybex CCNA didn't cover the exam in full detail (Especially the NAT section). This Book is Well Written. Good Additional Book for Math Problems
I bought this book with the understanding that it was not a study guide.This book should be only used as an additional aid for the math section of the GMAT.This book has really great sample questions that are very similar to the questions that you will see when you take the GMAT.This booked coupled with a GMAT Review study guide, such as the books offered by the Princeton Review makes an awesome combo.

Very good if you need to review your math
This book is very good if you only need to review the math part for the GMAT.I would recommend for a few more dollars to get the bigger book that covers all sections.It has the same amount of math questions as the Analytical one has.

Nothing's better than test-like practice
This book is slimmer than the orange Official Guide, weighing in at about 300 problems, but if you need more math practice, it's a great resource. One caveat: the average difficulty level of questions in this book is somewhat lower than that of the questions in the Official Guide. If you're already getting a 650 or better on practice tests, or if you are comfortable with the vast majority of math problems in the Official Guide, go ahead and skip this one. If you're not yet at that level, this is an excellent supplement to the orange book.

Start-ups and Managing Transitions
The focus of the venture capital community is on the change a new disruptive company intends to bring to the world, and little, if any, attention is paid to the changes and transitions that the company, as it moves from concept development to full commercialization, will have to negotiate to achieve its vision.
