Do You Dread Looking Things Up?
The Elements of Style makes grammatical research so easy, you'll want to look up things you'd always wondered about but thought would take too much time. Recently someone asked me about the use of the serial comma, and, as it was about text we were going to put on the dust jacket of a book, it was sufficiently important to look up. It turned out to be the second item in the Table of Contents. First you get the general rule, in this case "In a series of three or more terms with a single conjunction, use a comma after each term except the last." The example given is "gold, silver, or copper." The sole exception is a series of names in a business: "Brown, Shipley and Co." There! With thirty seconds effort, the issue was adjudicated. I can't recommend it highly enough. Thank God for the Fourth Edition. My Third Edition is dog-eared with use.

Important Reading
This little book is important reading for any one who has or is desiring to write. One of the best things that I could say about the book is that it is full of examples that are juxtaposed. Every element is clearly defined in such a way that any one can easily see the difference between the examples given. This book is a "how to" book for proper use of english in written form. It seemingly covers everything you could imagine from the use of commas and omiting needless words to expressing yourself clearly and not overwriting. The five chapters are: 1. Elementary Rules of Usage 2. Elementary Principles of Composition 3. A Few Matters of Form 4. Words and Expressions Commonly Misused 5. An Approach to Style.
Absolutely Indispensable!

A great inspiration for any coach
I am a first year basketball coach and found this book very inspirational.It makes me want to work even harder than I have and set higher standards for myself.Pat Riley is an excellent motivator and role model.I like any coach who is willing to write about his major losses in his career as well as greatest triumphs.A must read for any coach.However, he needs to write a sequel since he won his new title this summer.Go Heat!

Doesn't make the playoffs.
Of the over fifty books on leadership/coaching that I've read, this is by far the least useful.There are anecdotes for basketball fans, but as far as useful ideas on success and leadership there are few.It is the most useless book I've read in the coaching/leadership field (even worse than Coach K's or Dean Smith's).

Excellent Supplement to the Official Guide
There isn't much in this book to distinguish it from the verbal portion of The Official Guide for GMAT Review, but that's ok: if there's one thing GMAT students need, it's practice questions that look and feel just like the ones on the test.While the questions in the Quantitative Review book are somewhat easier than in the Official Guide, that isn't the case (to the same degree, anyway) with the verbal, so I can recommend this to just about anybody.
Excellent book
This is an excellent book with the real GMAT questions. It explains all the questions and answers and also explain why a particular answer is correct. Till now, this is the best GMAT practice book I've seen. Anyone preparing for GMAT needs to have this book

Practical Traits
This book offers tons of practical approaches and practice scoring for the 6 Traits of Writing.It is written by a recognized master in the field and has been so helpful.

A Friendly Read
Spandel's book is an authentic, engaging, and encouraging read for those that teach writing, want help infusing writing, or want to enhance their own writing. It is written conversationally and is well supported with numerous examples. I found it visually appealing as a reader and insightful. (Another review didn't like the visuals because it isn't easy to lift examples "as is" for sharing in class. To that angle I agree, but as a reader the layout is very pleasing.) Highly recommended.

Creating Writers Through 6-Trait Writing Assessment and Instruction (4th Ed)
This book gives so many examples of the qualities to look for and teach in writing instruction.I especially like the fact that this edition is more inclusive of secondary ideas and samples.

An incredibly important work.
I first learned of this book while listening to an audiobook by Wayne W. Dyer. While reading it, I realized it was one of the most important books I would ever be exposed to. The author goes into such amazing detail. This is a must-read for anyone wanting to improve not only their own life but humanity as well. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND this book and any other book written by Dr. David R. Hawkins.

Marketing Reference
This book is part of Executive MBA courses, I have to admit that, this book covers different areas and considered as one of the important Marketing references.
Rip off, no new material since edition 2
Kotler tries to sell college students new books every year, hence the 12th edition he is now marketing. There is no new information, and the information contained is no different from any $12 marketing book.Students, buy an old edition and save, teachers stop using books like this, more and better information is available for free over the net anyway. Just because they are expensive and shiny doesn't mean they are worthwhile.BTW this is also available in an international edition with the exact same content for 1/4 of the cost.

Marketing Bible
This book by Marketing Guru Philip Kotler is a Bible you must read before starting your career in Marketing. 'Marketing Management' mainly focuses on strategic decisions of a marketer, such as positioning, segmentation, startegies at different stages of product life cycle, brand building strategies, etc. It is better to finish 'Principles of Marketing' first to understand the strategies in marketing management.

Fun to read, useful information, and makes a great gift
This book hits a sweet spot for me.Paul Brians uses a common sense approach in discussing how we use and misuse our language.His approach is not fussy or full of rules.Instead, he uses humor and a light touch to help the reader develop a sense for what is proper and logical.He also helps us learn where we commonly fall into traps by mishearing and misusing words through regionalisms or simply similar sounding words.
It is really useful andentertaining.I love it!
I usually don't review any of my purchases. But, this book is so captivating that I had to review it!
Too Basic
The content is so elementary that this book cannot be considered a serious reference work for writers. Many of the "Common Errors" seem to have been made up in order to complete a targeted page count. If you already know the difference between "chunk" and "chuck," and know when to use "next door" instead of "next store" to convey your intended meaning, you can pass on this one. ... Read more

The book is great... I gave a bad review b/c of amazons way of charging me 6 dollars to read the book online when I never saw any print about that... I didn't want to pay for that, and there is no way they going to let me get out of paying it.I would recomend this boook to any one intersted in A+ certification, however buy the book from anyone outside of amazon.

I use the Oxford Companion constantly!Wine terms and references can be a bit confusing at times and that's where this book comes in.This book is organized in alphabetical order so if you see a wine related term or word that needs some splain' just refer to The Oxford Companion to Wine.
Refer back to it often
If you're into wine, or into learning about it, then this book does well to supplement another perhaps smaller, more specialized book.It doesn't necessarily deal at length with nuances of individual grapes, or how to develop a thorough tasting method.It's very useful when you come across a wine term you won't find in Webster's or want to know what the deal is with grafting, etc.I don't give it a 5 because I think, considering it's namesake and already generous size, they could have gone into more detail on some of the world's lesser-known but up-and-coming varietals at the expense of a few dozen more pages.But still a very good book to have if you want to fill your mind, or just like reading encyclopedias cover to cover. ... This book is fantastic; however, I got confused about the book page number. The description says it has 944 pages, but it just has 924. And I don't like the last PSAT part. I think this book should only contain SAT practice tests only. And it wastes a lot of marginal room. This edition doesn't changed a little, if any. The book has been prepared good but the computer's adaptivity is very poor. The CD of the book should be prepared in the context of CDROM. There isnt any format of the examination in the book, no pictures in the listening section and no reading format.... On the other hand, the book has not any full practise test like examination. YOUR GUIDE TO GETTING PUBLISHED

Great for practice tests, but the rest of the stuff is nothing new.
I bought this book along with the ACT for Dummies, and I only use this book for the practice tests. Whether you want to improve your score or just get a feel for the test, this book's 3 practice tests can't be beat. After all, they are the real ACT tests.
An Essential ACT Prep Tool
I purchased this book to prepare for the ACT.It familiarizes you with exactly what you need for the test.It's excellent for long-term preparation, but you can even use it in a crunch.I flipped through some of the pages the night before I took the ACT and had never opened up the book before, read through some things, and I ended up getting a perfect composite score of 36. You don't need any resource other than this one in preparing for the ACT.
