5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent book for new arrivals
I purchased this book for a new Mexican friend, who recently moved to the U.S. for two years and speaks practically no English, while I know a smattering of Spanish. We've found it to be invaluable in helping us communicate. When it's obvious that she isn't understanding me, I can turn to the appropriate page--the kitchen, for example--and point to the picture, and she can do the same. Then we work on her pronunciation of the English word. I will probably purchase another one for myself to help me strengthen my Spanish skills. I would also consider the other language titles to correspond with those my sons are studying in school. The format is user-friendly, the color illustrations are happy, and the categories of words are vast and extremely practical--especially helpful to someone struggling to get by in a new country. My friend showed the book to her ESL teacher and was very proud when the instructor recommended the book to the rest of the class!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great picture dictionary
What makes this dictionary so great is that it is not in alphabetical order and it is based on themes. For example, there is a classroom theme on a page and all of the words that have to do with what is in a classroom. Also, I like the fact that their are numbers next to the object and then all of the words in Spanish and English are at the bottom half of the page. This allows you to cover up all of the words and quiz yourself.
5-0 out of 5 stars The best ever...you can find it here!
I am buying 3 more copies of this book for fellow teachers in my building. Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars If you want to learn Spanish this is the book
The tapes and book are fantastic.I listen to them in the car over and over again.I think I am actually 'getting' to know Spanish.A must to buy--I spend about 1-2 hours a week--so I don't spend 10 minutes a day--sometimes 30 minutes and then 2-3 days later 15-20--it works though.

5-0 out of 5 stars What a great product
I have tried other spanish learning tapes.I have also attended Spanish classes with a regular Spanish instructor that teaches in high schoool (Spanish 1 - 4 ).I didn't learn Spanish until I obtained the book and tapes.Because I travel so much in my job I have a great opprotunity to be able to listen to the tapes. The book - tape combination is awesome and now I feel confident. What I have learned is sticking with me and I now feel like I can communicate in Spanish. The sticky labels that come with the book are also great. It's a package well put together.I am mid way through tape two ( two of six ) and am surprised at how much I can already say and understand. What an easy way to learn....

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent!
I've found the CD's enjoyable as I listen and learn on my commute to and from work each day. Each CD sytematically expands your vocabulary by providing you plenty of practice.I listen to each CD a few times until I'm pretty comfortable with it before proceeding to the next one. It's been great. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent!! Reference Book
Excellent reference book for independent learners and learners taking s Sapanish course . In my opinion, it will help with increasing one's understanding of, "how to say (or want to say) in Spanish" and "what you said {or want(ed) to convey} from your thoughts in English" and how to say it.

2-0 out of 5 stars spanish lesson book

1-0 out of 5 stars Terrible for Beginners (No me gusta)
If you have a choice, do not buy this book.If you must buy it for your class, seriously consider taking a different Spanish class that doesn't use this book.
3-0 out of 5 stars A LONG WAIT FOR PRODUCT
I ordered this product on the 3rd of August via expedited (2 day)shipping and it did not get here until the 13th of August!!Class started here on the 15th. The product itself was as it stated, so I can not complain about that.I would not use this shipper unless you have plenty of time to wait.

1-0 out of 5 stars Unhappy
I was looking for a student workbook for practice in spanish.I ordered this book because it was listed as "like new",it took me almost three weeks to get it and when I did I found the worksheets for the first five chapters were cut out.I am now approaching my first term exam for those same chapters and have no book to review. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars A Great Learning Guide
This is a great book to buy if you want to learn ASL. Not only do you learn basic vocabulary but this book also teaches sentence structure for ASL. It's a fantasic way to learn how to communicate with those in Deaf culture.

4-0 out of 5 stars Basic ASL
A great resource and one that I feel as though I will keep for a long time. The spiral binding makes it easy to use and to keep handy to look up words. I have one criticism...the vocabulary pages follow the practice pages which is backwards. Since I used this text for a class, the instructor always presented the vocab first, so it would have been nice to have the book set up that way as well. That being said, was well worth the price!

5-0 out of 5 stars Basic Course in ASL
I like the newer version as its more accurate of ASL and great for my class to teach them ASL. ... Read more

This is actually a review for more than one product (Pimsleur and Rosetta Stone)
4-0 out of 5 stars It gets the job done...
I live in Japan and have used these CDs to study basic conversation.I listen to each lesson twice while driving to and from work. After a month or two I find that I am able to communicate much better than before.I highly reccomend these CDs, though I would suggest suplementing with other study methods.

4-0 out of 5 stars An overall good intro to spoken Japanese
I have used more the one audio coarse of the last several years in my attempts to learn Japanese. Most are what I would call parrot tapes, they give you a phrase in English then have you repeat it a couple of time in Japanese and thats all they do. While that might work for simple phrases that a tourist might need in a pinch when they can't find a English speaker it doesn't really teach you the language.

5-0 out of 5 stars Understanding and Using English Grammar (Third Edition)
I have used this outstanding book with international students for several years, but it would be helpful if the Answer Key were available from Amazon.

5-0 out of 5 stars Grammar is difficult
With this book is it possible to learn the english grammar.
5-0 out of 5 stars Clear and easily understandable
The geniuses that controlled my education decided that I should skip fourth grade reading because they caught me reading Mark Twain in third grade. I can't imagine what in the WORLD they were thinking, as I came to learn years later that in fourth grade reading they taught - you guessed it - grammar! And boy, did I suffer. My written grammar was absolutely horrendous for years, and even though I continued to be placed in advanced or honors English classes throughout high school, whenever my papers were returned to me the "concept" side came back with an A, and the "grammar" side came back with a D or an F.Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Very Good!Needs Sentence Building Though!
Here I sit, surrounded by language courses.
4-0 out of 5 stars Good but Lacking in Conversational Practice
I have been using the course for two years now and I can say that I have learnt loads more Spanish than I did for several years in high school. One important tip - the best results are obtained from copying the disks to a portable player (IPod or something similar) and using them while you're walking, on an airplane flight or something similar. The abiliy to pause the recordings, where you need more time to respond, or to rewind or restart a section, where you need to revise individual parts of a lesson, is crucial to getting the most out of the course (or any similar audio course for that matter).
4-0 out of 5 stars I'm On My Way!
For many years I harbored the belief that I have a facility for foreign languages.Unfortunately, I never tested my belief, until now.I resolved to learn Spanish as part of my preparation for a dream vacation in Spain. The Spanish Complete Learn in Your Car set has gotten me off to a great start.Within a few lessons, I began using Spanish words and phrases without thinking of the English language equivalent. In other words, I began thinking in Spanish!I reached lesson five in no time.As a result I'm confident that I could find my way around airports, train stations, and bus terminals.I begin each lesson by listening to an English word or phrase followed by the Spanish translation. In the early stages, I repeat the term twice, exactly as it is pronounced by one of the native Spanish speakers. Before long, I'm able to supply the word or phrase in Spanish before it is spoken in Spanish. My commutes to and from work have never been so productive, and the miles seem to fly by. ... My husband and I both used this CD - he used it to learn the language from start and I to review. We both really liked it!As a French newbie, he learned by going through each CD two to three times, while I just went through each CD once. It's a great way to learn/improve your listening and speaking skills.

5-0 out of 5 stars Probably the Best Course for the Absolute Beginner, Perhaps not for the LSLC Student
I recentlystarted Pimsleur Spanish after reading the numerous Amazon reviews praising Pimsleur Spanish, not only in the Amazon review section for Pimsleur Spanish but also in the Amazon review section for Learning Spanish Like Crazy that compared the two products. Though I must admit that the Pimsleur method is a great method to learn basic Spanish I did not learn much from it because I had already completed the first level of Learning Spanish Like Crazy before doing Pimsleur. Someone that has already done the first level of LSLC, will not find Pimsleur challenging enough because LSLC coversmore Spanish by teaching more verbs and more verb tenses.
2-0 out of 5 stars Excruciatingly repetitious and boring...
I bought these cd's for my 3 daughters(ages 11, 8 and 7)who I am trying to teach spanish.I used some great cd's to learn the basics while driving my car to work and back and we have a 15 min drive to and from school each day so I though these would be perfect.Three trips later and my children are already begging me to not make them listen to the cd's. The man's voice is especially annoying and makes my 8 yr old cover her ears and beg me to please shut it off. I am sure that if you listen to the cd's you might learn spanish, if you can keep awake. But they are definately not good for children.I remember the cd's that I had, years ago, were much more lively.I wish that I had them now.

4-0 out of 5 stars Better With Behind the Wheel French Revised
Henry S. Raymond's Learn in Your Car French is clearly and indisputably one of the best 'bang for your buck'car French courses on the market.
3-0 out of 5 stars Good Purchase
I have taken a few French classes and this was a fun easy refresher to teach and go over the basics in spoken French language. It also helps refine pronunciation and was exactly what I was looking for.It might be a little challenging for someone with no experience at all in the language.

5-0 out of 5 stars The First 3 CDs Helped Tremendously!
I had to go to Paris for a conference and didn't know the first bit of French other than "Bon jour!" and "Oui." I searched through many options and, after reading all the reviews, decided on French Complete. I spent two months (about 3-4 hours per week) listening to the first 3 CDs (Level 1) over and over and over again in the car. By the time I left for my trip, I was surprisingly comfortable with basic French conversation. I was confident I would be just fine. Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great beginner book
I used Alif Baa (with DVDs) in Arabic 101 at the University of Maryland (Baltimore County) and it's probably the best beginner book I have encountered. The DVDs are great and add a lot to the text and exercises. It even shows a chart with the letters, and you can click on the appropriate character to hear and show someone pronouncing it in several different voices.Great idea.Lots of exercises to listen to and write down. And, for $5, there's an answer key to Alif Baa which will help an awful lot if you want to teach yourself.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good starter book for Arabic
I've taken Spanish and Russian, so I'm no stranger to learning a new language. I have had some rudimentary Arabic that was based on phonetics, so I never really learned the letters. This book drills in each letter with repetition, so you write each letter multiple times, and utilize it in words so you know the initial, medial, and final positions. The book isn't perfect, and without a solution manual you are in the dark as to whether you are getting the dictation down right. I would receommend either taking an Arabic class (as I am doing) that uses this book or buying the solutions manual to go it alone. As my instructor states, this book and Al Kitaab #1 are the foundation, if you can make it through these books you are on your way, but it isn't easy. If I had to do this on my own, I would be taking longer, but the intense schedule of the class is keeping the words and letters fresh in my brain. Bottom line, if you are buying this for school, it's good to go. If you are buying it to go it alone, get the solution manual.

4-0 out of 5 stars A fabulous series
This book is such an improvement over what was the previous standard:the Orange Book from Michigan. It is not too technical and comes with nicely done DVDs.This and the companion 'Al-Kitab' are elementary and intermediate courses together. There is also an answer key (separate purchase) which I would recommend.

5-0 out of 5 stars Everything I needed for the CTEL
This text admirably addresses the CTEL exam.Pop for the third edition; it's worth it.And if it were up to me, this book's sections on immigration law, history, and diversity would be required reading for any educator.

4-0 out of 5 stars A Great Resource Book
I purchased this book for a college class and it was mostly review from other classes. However, I found the book easy to read and very informative. This single book covered about 4 or 5 other books from different courses. If you are a beginning teacher that wants to be able to teach to all of your students, than this book is a must. This great book covers SDAIE teaching and just other great concepts. If you have never taken a multilinguial course than this is money well spent. If you have had a number of those types of classes, than I would look for a book more catered to what you need. This is book is a great introductory book. Most students that I had in class kept the book as reference material and that says a lot because we use book money to live on until finicial aide comes in, LOL. ... 2-0 out of 5 stars Some Colleges Require this Book
I hate that my son's college is requiring this book along with the Workbook, Answer Key, Dictionary and CD Pkg only read negative reviews.I wonder why the schools would require this expensive and apparently useless package?
2-0 out of 5 stars Not recommended
This textbook makes it very hard to learn the vocabulary because they do not define the words they use. Many of the directions for the exercises are confusing. The culture sections are decent and contain contemporary pop culture.I find the textbook to be of very little value.

2-0 out of 5 stars Not easy to use
I had a very bad experience with this textbook in my Spanish class at school. While it is very easy to do well on the accompanying tests, it is also easy to escape without learning very much Spanish at all. The main drawback is that the book uses much of its vocabulary without ever having officially introduced it. Then, when you go look words up in the back to find out what they mean, they aren't there! Further, although topics are introduced in logical order, they are not organized in the chapters in a standard format. This makes it difficult to locate a previous concept if you wish to review it.

2-0 out of 5 stars accurate - not always
The point when using any reference book is to expand on understanding and to get the true sense of the subject under study. This "Strongest" Strong's concordance falls short of this, as it apparently uses personal bias in its definitions (and comments), i.e. cross - 'stauros - cross, cross'. Research is for accurate knowledge. I was very disappointed.

5-0 out of 5 stars Only Concordance Needed!
If you are a fan of the NIV Bible then this is the best book to have along with it.This exhaustive concordance has everything you need to study the words in the NIV bible. It includes the Hebrew and Greek dictionaries. This is a must have book for your bible study needs!

4-0 out of 5 stars Worth the price if you use NIV translation.
The Hebrew, Aramaic, and Greek dictionaries are done very well, compared to the old Strong's Concordance I have. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars no regrets, but far from completely satisfied
Although I have no regrets about using Pimsleur Spanish II, I am not 100% satisfied. After finishing the Pimsleur series I have learned some Spanish but I don't think that I have learned as much Spanish as I thought that I would have learned. As a couple of reviewers already pointed out, Pimsleur does not cover as much Spanish as the FSI Spanish method (but I paid several times more).
3-0 out of 5 stars Bookchip version is better and easier to use,
Bookchip version is better and easier to use, ( 3 bookchips compared to 52 cds) I bought bookchips and cds, send cds back. Buy Bookchip (Audiofy Bookchip) instead.

5-0 out of 5 stars a bit pricey you say?
Other reviewers have already adequately listed the reasons for using the Pimsleur method. I did all three levels of Italian and have a excellent proficiency in the language (especially pronunciation).

5-0 out of 5 stars great!
I am an avid student of languages.I teach myself, since I am no longer in school.Pimsleur used to be my preferred beginner's course, but then I found Michel Thomas.Michel Thomas is the best audio course for a new student of French. It takes you from ZERO to be somewhat proficient. The course it great. You learn the grammar and a lot of vocabulary in a fun way. It's very engaging, and it feels like you are in a little classroom with just two other students and Michel himself.I highly recommend it.Definitely worth the money.

5-0 out of 5 stars It is indeed the fastest way to learn French!
The way the CD series is mapped out you can't help but pick up on the French langauge. He makes it so simple:)

4-0 out of 5 stars Deceptively Revolutionary!
When I first heard the Michel Thomas recordings, I have to say, I wasn't really impressed, maybe because I was listening with a linguistic ear and from a perspective of a French teacher. I couldn't see anything new or amazing in the long awaited revelation of Michel's secret teaching method. That was a somewhat arrogant first assessment on my part, I do now admit.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Companion
I keep this book on my desk and use it all the time.It makes having the right phrases and words a SNAP.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Supplement to Behind the Wheel Spanish
I am a foreign language aficionado, and I plan to spend my retirement learning languages and using and reviewing every major foreign language title on the market.
5-0 out of 5 stars Great Book with a Great Price that Will Teach You Spanish
I started learning Spanish eight months ago without any previous experience learning the language. I just used 3 tools that got 4 or 5 stars reviews at a popular learning Spanish product review site. This book is one of the tools. The other was the Learning Spanish Like Crazy self-study course. And the third was a reference book for verb conjugation (501 Spanish Verbs).
