5-0 out of 5 stars Basic Wedding Info for Mother of Bride
I have enjoyed this book because it gives so many options, traditional as well as non-traditional.I will feel more comfortable making decisions because I've read this book.
5-0 out of 5 stars Beautifully done!
Not only does this book look beautiful, it's packed with solid wedding advice. I recommend it to all newly-engaged couples. Emily would be proud of Peggy's updated and revised edition of her classic wedding etiquette book.

5-0 out of 5 stars VERY HELPFUL BOOK!

5-0 out of 5 stars Wedding Planning For REAL People
FINALLY! A book that doesn't assume I work as a designer for Martha Stewart Weddings. It offers guidance to all with such wonderful common sense (which I've found all TOO uncommon in today's wedding guides!) This book does not tell the bride that she can do anything she wants becasue after all it's HER day.Ms. Shaw comes straight to the point and tells you the truth.Just like a best friend.Only this best friend knows exactly how to word the invitations and seat the groom's family. And this book is actually funny! The examples of faux pas are excellent reminders of just how ridiculous and childish people can get when it comes to weddings. This book will help you make your day special,AND help you expertly manage the delicate situations that will surely arise along the way. Above all, its humor will remind you that weddings are supposed to be fun. This is a great gift for a bride-to-be.

5-0 out of 5 stars A great reference book for everyone involved in a wedding`
I am getting married in July and my sister is getting married in August. She is my maid of honor and I will be her matron of honor. She bought a lot of wedding ettiquette/planning books that we have both been consulting, and this is by far the best. The author has obviously been involved in planning many weddings, from the most elaborate to the most simple, and she offers great advice.A must-read for the bride who wants as many personal touches as possible, but also wants to know what's acceptable -- and what's not.A very funny read, as well!

5-0 out of 5 stars Witty and Helpful Book
This wedding book is very well done. The best part of the book is the fact that it uses humor. In an age when weddings have become the focus of obsessive mothers and brides that are out of touch with reality, Shaw uses humor to foucs on keeping the wedding tasteful and nice. The book is full of tons of practical advice. The use of humor makes it very readable for grooms! ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Help for the unique bride with manners
The problem with Wedding Etiquette is that it's requirements just don't work for everyone. So how do you get around those that don't suit your needs, but still keep your manners? This book is the answer. It tells you which etiquette rules you can break without offending or appearing ill-mannered, and how you can bend others so they work for you, the unique couple. It's also a fun read.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great tips, concise, but maybe a bit too concise
I have recently become engaged, and I'm dreading planning a wedding.I picked up this book because the questions are already beginning, and I was hoping to find some polite ways to tell people to back off. This book does offer some suggestions there, and overall, it helped me become a bit more excited about the process without drowning me in details.I do wish that they had included more than they did in this book. For example, they give some suggested text for invitations. They tell you that "request the honour of your presence" is only to be used for ceremonies held at a place of worship. However, "request the honour of your presence" is used in *all* of their suggested formal wordings. They didn't provide a single example of the etiquette for a formal wording for a wedding held outdoors or in a banquet hall or other non-religious location.Considering that they suggest alternate locations in several places (and even recommend destination weddings as an option, which I found refreshing as I'm figuring on having one), this omission was glaring. There's several other little things like that where I feel a few more pages would have made this book perfect.

3-0 out of 5 stars Just OK
It's a period piece; some relevance to contemporary weddings, but not much.Miss Manners is much better.

3-0 out of 5 stars A good start with your wedding plans
Since most of us who'll buy wedding planning books are first time brides, this is a good one for starters. It's a FAQ collection. It covers broad areas, from what bridesmaid's responsibilites are to do-you-need-to-take-off-your-glove-for-the-ring-exchange. It's helpful, although you might get answers like that in other wedding etiquette books. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Book
It's a great little book with all the info you need.I noticed the last review was in 1998 - I have the revised edition published in 2000.4-0 out of 5 stars Informative and it fits in your pocket!
A plethora of good tips! This books offers suggestions and answers to the many nagging yet necessary questions that need to be answered before the 'Big Day'. For example, at my last marriage (my second), I ripped my wedding dress waist high and if it hadn't been for this book, my maid of honor wouldn't have saved the day with the needle and thread she so cleverly hid in her bouquet.Anyway, this book is great! ... 5-0 out of 5 stars A "must have" for MOBs
As a recent MOB I found Jeanne Hamilton's book an indispensible guide to navigating the complicated maze that wedding planning and etiquette has become. Using razor-sharp wit, humor, and old fasioned common sense, Hamilton takes us by the hand and leads us to the promised land of "wedding prep bliss." This book should be the first purchase in the MOB's bridal budget.

1-0 out of 5 stars Miss Manners would be horrified
This is not a guide, it's a collection of wedding horror stories other people have submitted to the author's website. You can read those stories for free.
5-0 out of 5 stars A must read! Very funny and helps put things into perspective
I bought this book because I wanted a light hearted read to give me a break from all the chaos in planning. It was an easy read yet funny and somewhat informative. I LOVED it and highly recommend it to anyone who is interested in etiquette yet not consumed by it. It cleared up a few questions that I had as well as gave me a lot of good ideas on what NOT to do and most of all laughs. There were also a few OMGs because I couldn't not believe the ridiculousness of some people/brides.

4-0 out of 5 stars A Proper and Well-Planned Wedding
This planner guide is beautiful. I love the binding since it is easy to browse topics without the book flipping closed. It covers various information and check lists that are useful to first-time brides (or mothers of the bride). I appreciate the simplicity and the inclusion of Post's infamous manners to help me plan a proper wedding. The big drawback is that the book is so crisp and worth saving as a memoir of the planning process and 'big day' that I am timid to write in it and make full use of its pages for fear I'll mess it up. Otherwise, it is a classic and simple gift for a newly engaged couple.

3-0 out of 5 stars Planner Does Not Meet Expectations
I am a huge fan of Emily Post's Wedding Etiquette book and it has helped me be a better bride, bridesmaid, and wedding guest. It is well organized and lays the proper etiquette for every possible scenario. It's wonderful.
4-0 out of 5 stars Great Planner
I was delighted with my planner when I received it. It's very well made, and it covers EVERYTHING. The great thing about this planner is if you are having a smaller, less formal wedding and reception (like my fiance and I) you can just skim past the info you don't need, and get straight to what you are looking for. This planner is ideal for any type of wedding, it even has alot of information about destination weddings and how to cut costs. I was unsure about the whole marriage liscense/changing my name thing, and Emily Post's Wedding Planner lays everything out for you. For the clueless bride to be, she covers everything from dresses to veils to flowers, and tells you about the different types and kinds. Overall it's a very handy tool, with charts and checklists and a nice pocket to hold papers. I found myself jotting things down as I went through it the very first time. I only have one complaint about the planner: it is not a standard paper sized book, therefore regular sized sheets of paper do not fit in the pocket. I found myself using a manila folder along with it to hold printouts of pictures I didn't want to fold. The pocket is ideal for invitation samples, swatches, and business cards though. Even with this drawback, the planner itself is worth the pocket sacrifice. If you want to do a wedding right, then this is the planner for you. ... Read more
