This book offers a lot despite its size.There is plenty of advice on how to write your own wedding vows.The book gives you a lot to think about that helps you write your own personalised vows.This book contains many poems and thoughts so you can choose the words that express how you feel for your loved one.The book caters for everyone and it does so very sensibly without offending anyone.The book is one of the best books I've read and has so much to offer.I highly recommend it.For the price alone its a good value.Makes an ideal gift.If you dont want to buy several books you should consider this book.

very very helpful
I am a newly ordained minister.With this book I was able to help the couple that i wedded, by putting together vows, and a perfect ceremony.It was easy to read.It had all kinds of helpful advice and it helped me build beautiful vows for this couple.This book will be my refrence to putting together other weddings. Comprehensive
This book is surprisingly comprehensive and covers a variety of topics and situations.
College Bound finds Book Very Beneficial
As a young adult I found this book to be very beneficial, full of fun and informative information, easy to read -- yet detailed enough to keep my interest.It was a confidence builder and a validation for my grandparents and aunt -- who are always reminding me to pay attention to my manners.

Good rules but not very concise.
While full of good advice that all of us need to be aware of and follow, the 25 rules are accompanied by much fluff that I feel add little.
This is not your mother's book on manners
Calling this an etiquette book is misleading; it's a guide to living morally in increasingly me-me times. Forni's advice-ranging from how to make guests feel included to how to apologize to how to assert yourself-all hinges around one all-important ideal: recognizing yourself as part of a larger community. To that end, the basis of civility and the 25 tips are all about learning to recognize how our actions affect others and ultimately come back to impact ourselves. Forni makes a strong case that civility is an ethical code, and it's obvious by his warm, humanist take (there's no doctrinaire rules-issuing here) that he practices what he preaches.

Timeless reminders
It's refreshing to come across P.M. Forni's `Choosing Civility', a gentle reminder on the importance of being civilized in a world that usually appears more civilized than it is. Chortle all you want, like I did when I first saw the title. When in the 19th century did you last hear that word, `civility'? And doesn't civility rhyme with hee-hee?

If your planner hasn't read this....
I am a wedding planner (eventsbykaren@hotmail.com) and if you aren't using a planner, you are nuts, and if you are and they haven't read this book, they are nuts!All people planning a wedding should read this book.Even if you don't read it and only use it as a reference then you still should buy this book.A wedding is a one shot deal and if you haven't planned one before, trust me, you have NO IDEA what it takes!There is a reason why planners make good money.This is one book that I recommened to all brides, mothers, fiances, and planners regardless of if you are using a coordinator or not.

Best wedding book yet!
If you are on a mission to plan a fantastic wedding, this is the book to read.This is the 3rd wedding book I have read in the last few months, and by far the most useful!It has great advice on how to get organized and plan the perfect wedding.I would recommend it to anyone planning a wedding.

Charming!
This book is wonderful. I just love Draper's tone and conversational way of writing. She offers ideas for all budgets and lifestyles. Charmingly retro, with plenty of good advice for today's hostesses. I could not put it down.

THE housewarming gift for gay men
Not as important or famous as Draper's "Decorating is Fun," but her 1941 "Entertaining" book is still amusing, deserving a spot on your coffee table next to an old 1940s Emily Post Etiquette book (when is somone gonna get wise and issue reprints of THOSE?).
A fun & inspirational read
If you're looking for some new ideas, as well as a peek into entertaining during the 1940's, you'll find a lot to enjoy in this reprint of Dorothy Draper's charming guide to entertaining. Great Book
This books gives great tips and suggestions on how to start conversations.It even give you sample ice breakers.Good book to have and keep around to refresh your small talk skills.

Highly Overrated
I consider my self pretty well read in this genre of self-help books.The first thing I would share with anyone reading this review is that the advice offered in this book is pretty obvious and sometimes just plain bizarre.I know this has been shared in other reviews of this book, but after reading some other "independent" reviews of this book I felt compelled to tell you the honest truth about this book.The lines offered in this book on initiating conversation with strangers in social settings made me and my sister laugh while reading them.They are both awkward and bizarre at the same time.If you're looking for a good book on sharpening your social skills keep moving cause this is not the one.

Not enough information for a book....
The key points of this book would fit nicely into about 15-20 of it's small printed pages... I can summarize the content in this review. First the author gives her history... Next, she explains to not be shy and to approach people in conversation and people standing alone.... She stresses that you must really strive to take an interest and care for the people you are talking with. She tells you to only ask engaging questions (e.g. What have you done today? Instead of How was your day?) She devotes a few pages to body language and tells you to take note to always remember the other persons name and.... then she explains how to gracefully exit a conversation by leading out with "I have to go...". While I don't find myself in disagreement with Ms. Fine on any of her advice, I did feel about 75% of the book is common knowledge.... I read the entire book in a 2 hour period and because I felt like I didn't learn much I don't recommend it without picking up a copy and skimming through it. ... Read more

Lots of fun and guidance
There is so much data stuffed into this book about so many cultures that its almost overwhelming!This is an impressive book covering many countries and most of the information is still current, despite the fact the last version was copywrited back in the 1990s.

Excellent overview
Mindfulness is a necessary tool in today's business world. This book overviewed so many helpful areas, but didnt linger on all small mundane details.

Overrated
I was really looking forward to reading this book after going through the Amazon.com reviews for this book.I was really disapointed because much of it is common sense.The author goes on and on about the importance of good etiquette, but you probably wouldn't be reading this book if you didn't know that already.

Extremely helpful
I really enjoyed this book and found it very useful.Margaret Shepherd addresses just about any situation one can think of.If everyone owned this book and followed these conversational guidelines, the world would be a much better place.

Communication Is Important In All Its Forms.
Civilized conversation is an art which transforms everyday life into a meaningful connection to others with just a few required basics.Mainly, you need to let the other person know that you are focused and interested in what he/she is saying.Your actions reveal to the other person exactly what you consider most important.Body language speaks louder than words.A conversation distinguishes humans from animals, although a pet does communicate in its own way with the owner.

100 Words Almost Everyone Confuses
An excellent introduction to commonly misused words.Although
Could of passed...
To me, this book was simply a dictionary of 100 words sorted in alphabetical order. What I was hoping for was a book that would describe the common misuses of words and separate out differences between misused words. Instead, it seems each word was just simply stated and then defined. It's a great book to simply read about words and their meanings, but just wasn't what I expected. Not an expensive book, so I'm not complaining too much.

If you need this book, you will not understand it.If you understand it, you don't need it!Unless you were the one student in thousands whose jaw dropped in rapt fascination when your seventh-grade teacher diagrammed the parts of speech, you will not follow the alleged explanations in this book.The explanations come straight out of that seventh-grade grammar text.Such and such a word is the intransitive past participle of another word.There, that cleared it up, didn't it!There is almost never a simple declarative sentence about how to use a confusing word... here is a lovely example from page 88...

Nothing New
I didn't find this book terribly useful.Most of the concepts presented in the book were common sense and did not specifically apply to business.The book centered around typical social etiquette (which certainly appliesin the business world), but did not provide much business-specificguidance.I found that most of the concepts were covered in generaletiquette publications.I was also disappointed to find that the book didnot provide specific solutions for breaches in business etiquette.I guessI was looking for some nice catch-phrases and replies for the businessuser.I do think the book was simple to read, and might be a good book fornewcomers to American business etiquette.

The author should stick to 'American' business etiqutte.
This is an easy to read booklet; I read it while waiting at the airport in Madrid to catch my flight back to the USA. One of the best guides to business etiquette on the market.

Worth every penny!
My wife bought this book for me, and it was a Godsend.Chapter lessons are bite sized and arranged in logical/relational order; interpersonal phrases, cultural issues, admission, discharge, fundamental anatomy, hygiene issues, medication issue, etc.

Very helpful business book
I have found this to be a very helpful book in how to deal with people in a business.Though there are a few things which I feel are not the right approach and are just the opinion of the author, I think many would do well to study this book and put it into practice.

The Standard Code is a better parliamentary authority then Robert's.It simplifies and modernizes parliamentary authority, making it more accessible to more people.Dump your RONR and get this work.

If you've always feared having to pull out the ol' Robert's Rules of Order because it was too detailed and complex for the casual social organizations in which you participated, help is here. Someone has realized that, because a group might need parliamentary procedures, it does not need the granularity required by The Parliament of England. An alternative to Robert's Rules of Order
