5-0 out of 5 stars The latest edition of the best basic reference on Computer Science
An excellent overview of Computer Science.
5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent reference fo all aspects of Computer Science
I have as of this writing passed through about half of the encyclopedia and found it to be of the highest value. It has helped me to gain insights into areas that I am foggy in and also expanded my knowledge of areas in which I hold some expertise.5-0 out of 5 stars The wait is finally over

5-0 out of 5 stars A very good resource
The myth of genesis and exodus and its modern untrue historical perpetuations by the current self appointed custodians of Christianity, Judaism and Islam are examined and analyzed in this 74 paged document. The author sets the record straight by linking all three to their Afrikanpagan origins and with real individuals, making historical corrections where they are due.For example there are comparisons, betweenwhat was allegedly said by King Solomon and what was actually written by Amenemope, and comparison between the biblical ten commandments with the actual written 147. There are dates along with mapping diagrams showing the approximate time of genesis and exodus and what would have occurred in truth. In addition, by showing that all involved during the alleged mass movements and cultural war fares were of Afrikan tribal descent, theauthor shows that biblicalevents that occurred were mostly Afrikan continentalhistory, and spiritual allegory. Avery good reference source with a great bibliography. For more detail see African Origins of the Major Western Religions to get anin-depth outlook on this subject.

2-0 out of 5 stars nice review, but lacking in some areas
individual skill #4:fighting positions not covered very well.leader skill #3:warning & operations orders needs to include a real example of what each would look like.would like to see movement and combat formations covered alot better.file, wedge, column, echlon right (left), line, vee for fire teams, squad and possibly platoon.I personally would rather have spent my money on another book and not this one.

4-0 out of 5 stars Basic Infantry Skills - Emphasis on Basic
This book describes the basic skills needed to be a member of an infantry fire team.Topics discussed include hand signals, ambushes, marching formations, offensive and defensive tactics, etc., pretty much everything an infantryman needs to know about operating at the fire team/squad level other than how to fire your weapon. There is a discussion at the end of each section that applies what is learned to a real world historical situation so the reader can better understand how the principals are actually put into action. As discussed by some of the other reviewers, this book is quite basic; there is little higher level information contained within. It is geared to prepare the reader to be a member of a fire team and nothing more. There is virtually no information on higher level (platoon or company) operations, and the knowledge required of even a squad leader greatly exceeds that contained in this book.If you've served in the Army in a combat MOS or in the Marines, you probably already know (alot) more about this subject than what is contained in this book. This is a book on tactics for an individual in an infantry fire team and if this is what you are looking for, I would highly recommend it.If you want something more detailed than this, you should go elsewhere.

3-0 out of 5 stars Not what I expected but...
For the layman, this is an excellent overview of basic light infantry tactics. It encompasses a broad array of the various aspects of tactics including movement, hand signals, orders, and battle drills.Even for the new infantryman, it consolidates the necessities of basic infantry stuff for squad and platoon level.

This is by far teh best bible software available! With lots of multimedia features and study topics... Buy it! You wont regret it!

5-0 out of 5 stars Best Bible software for the Christian Family
iLumina is by far the best Bible software for families. It has animations, virtual tours and videos that help you learn the Bible in unique ways. No other software does that.
1-0 out of 5 stars Hands-down, one of the worst...
iLumina is about as close to a rip-off as can legally be had.Shortly before its debut, it was promised to the public that a significant portion of the Bible would be animated. Not so, and there has been no addition to the barely handfull of existing animations in well over 2 years.

5-0 out of 5 stars A huge moodlifter
This book was given to me while attending school out of state and my smiles were too infrequent, but reading through this 'list' made me smile and brought back many happy moments in my life. Ten Years later, I still pick it up and read one phrase each day, just to spark a wonderful memory. It will remind anyone who reads it to be grateful for the little things life has to offer.
2-0 out of 5 stars I didn't get it.
Maybe I'm a grouch or unimaginative - turkey buzzards, people who try unsucessfully to have freckles removed, fumes, scorched bamboo, ??? I guess if you have been looking for a 600 page list of nouns in random order, you won't be disappointed.

3-0 out of 5 stars Nice book but not an Encyclopedia
This is a nice book. It has a fair number of spices and herbs listed, I would say the ones most commonly used in the American kitchen. It also includes international recipes and even a chapter on Flavorings as listed in the title. Overall a good source of information and a good read. Beware however this is by no means comprehensive, there are other books out there with much more detailed information on spices and hebs, unfortunately I am still searching to find one that I used to own that desrved the title encyclopedia. When I find it I will re-post.

5-0 out of 5 stars Herb & Spice Heaven
Herbs enhance and enliven meals. Herbs are the leaves of fresh or dried plants. Spices are the aromatic parts: buds, fruit, berries, roots or bark. Most spices thrive in tropical regions, while herbs can be grown in your own garden or indoors in a sunny place. Some herbs can also produce spices.
5-0 out of 5 stars Everything from Agar-Agar to Zahtar
If you had this book, you'd know that Agar-Agar is a seaweed and Zahtar is a blend of sumac, roasted sesame seeds, and ground thyme. Encylopedia indeed! I purchased this book to learn about herbs and spices so that I could cook flavorful while cutting salt, fat, mayo, and other bad things in my diet. If you only get one one kitchen reference on this subject, make it this one.I started giving this book as a gift to friends and family and now they're giving it as a gift as well. 5-0 out of 5 stars Great fun
Our book club is an eclectic bunch if nothing. We read everything from the current bestsellers ("Bark of the Dogwood") to self-help books ("Seven Habits"). So it came as no surprise that we picked this one, especially after we all admitted we thought we were lacking in some of the upstairs areas. For years I've harbored fears about what I "didn't know."And this is not some stuffy book full of dry facts--it's well done and quite easy to read. This would make a nice gift, especially for someone in their teens.

3-0 out of 5 stars Bathroom reading?
This book has a charming cover and wonderful printing. It makes a nice gift for young people (they'll probably keep it in the bathroom?). Ms. Padwa's writing style is engaging. In the introduction she says that although this book is not thorough, it "has the facts you need to hold your head high" -- that said, I was disappointed to read a few misguided "facts" within the book.Perhaps this is because she admitted to poring over books and articles but did not mention any conversations with actual people. And, with the number of contradictory books and articles on every subject, this method would have to produce somewhat flawed results. The flaws are annoying but forgivable, and since she writes as if she is having a pleasant conversation, I still open the book to random pages and read a bit from time to time.

4-0 out of 5 stars Neither a dictionary nor the Word of God. . .

5-0 out of 5 stars Fabulous!
This is an excellent book for anyone who wishes to know the truth about cults and false religion.Well-researched and well-written, the authors let the founders of the various cults speak for themselves, carefully documenting each quote in copious end notes. Each group's view of the basic doctrines of Christianity are outlined, showing their astonishing similarity in rejecting the deity of Christ and pushing salvation by works. Best of all, the Doctrinal Appendix gives the biblical references for each Christian doctrine. Especially helpful is the table of proofs that Jesus is God with dozens of Old and New Testament references.Other reviews of this book should be read with care. When the light of Truth shines forth, darkness is made uncomfortable.

1-0 out of 5 stars Yeah right
Out of ALL the religions, Unitarian Universalist,is the only religion/sect/denomination of reason and reality, while feeding your inner spirit-which is why anyone of any belief (or non-belief) can go to the church. They don't even tell you what/how to believe (unlike most religions/denominations).I can see why a fundamentalist wouldn't want anyone to be one though...visit famousuus.com to see all the intelligent people who were/are unitarians, including Paul Newman,Ray Bradbury,Sir Isaac Newton,Emily Dickinson,Susan B. 1-0 out of 5 stars Too Many Hokey Stats
If you're a baseball stats junky (like me), how can this not be the perfect book?5-0 out of 5 stars The best baseball reference book
Total Baseball is definitely a must for every baseball fan, from hardcore to casual. And it can be a gateway for many who haven't enjoyed the blessings of this beautiful game. There's everything you need to know: from team histories, great essays on the Negro Leagues. There's stuff for the stat nut as well: from sabermetrics to a handy guide on how to score a game, some insights on Women and Baseball, and of course, the hefty, precise and so accurate register of every player in Major League history. There's even a chapter on International Baseball results, that suprisingly, does NOT include the champions of the Venezuelan League, and does have the Dominican and Mexican team champions. Anyway, all in all, if you love baseball or simply you want to understand baseball, this book is for you.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great meteorite reference
This is a fantastic reference to meteorites. Large, beautifully bound and with great colour images and illustrations. Norton certainly knows his subject and takes us on a cosmic jouney, from black rocks found in the desert to a time before the formation of the solar system. There is plenty of technical and scientific details to feed the mind of the most educated reader. He explains concepts like radio-isotope dating with a clarity lacking at many eductional institutions today. Highly recommended for all those with an interest in space or astronomy and the growing number of meteorite collectors out there. My only minor criticism is that the font used in the book could have been a little bolder and easier to read for my aging eyes. Norton deserves a 10/10 for this fine effort.

5-0 out of 5 stars Superb, but...
This is the best work I've read on the solar system, period. The text is wonderful but I dearly wish the author had included the American measuring system along with the metric one. I'm one of those old fogies who has to cogitate in the extreme in order to convert kilometers into miles. Oh, well.5-0 out of 5 stars An excellent layman's reference to solar system astronomy
Don't buy this book thinking it will be an entertaining reference for your twelve-year-old nephew who enjoys astronomy. This hefty tome is more akin to a college-level textbook than an encyclopedia. If you want to get adetailed, but not overly technical, overview of modern solar systemscience, this is the book for you.

You will not find another book with such a variety of beautiful photos of daylilies. For daylily growers that want the most comprhensive photo gallery available to date.I would have enjoyed more details about the parentage of these beautiful daylilies.Munsen and Hill are tops for information but Petit's Encyclopedia is by far the pick for beautiful photos.I am sure the five stars this book received from reviewers was based on the hundreds of excellent color and variety of daylily types. If you like lots of top notch photos this is the best!!! ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Good dictionary
I liked the dictionary as I could find most of the terms I looked for. Several of them had colorful illustrations.

4-0 out of 5 stars Dental Assistant Graduate
I just wanted to respond to the only review on this book. It is a dictionary not a picture book. If you want pictures you'll want to look at Delmars Dental Assisting or another book teaching dental. This book has most of the words I needed to find while attending college. It is for definition of dental terminology, great for students.

3-0 out of 5 stars adequate, but not spectacular
As the title implies, this book is a dictionary, nothing more. I was sorely disappointed to find out that there were no pictures, diagrams, or illustrations in this book whatsoever. It does include almost every word you could think of for a dental reference, but I hoped it would have more on the morphology and anatomy of teeth. For instance, if someone wondered what a marginal ridge was, it would tell them, but without a picture to show where they are, it is very hard to grasp the concept. I would not reccommend this book for someone looking for clarification of oral structures, only for people who only want to know what something is, not where. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars First rate quick reference
Not for reading, but for looking up details while reading other materials or quick confirmation of background information that comes up in discussion or newspaper/magazine articles or even historical details encountered in literature. There is very little detail, but almost everything gets a mention and can be put in context of other world events. I am on my third edition and would not be without it on my reference shelf.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Teaching Resource
I teach a 100 level art history at a univeristy and this is an excellent resource to accompany my lectures. My only complaint is not with the book but with whoever shipped it. Apparently this newer edition comes with a CD-ROM BUT mine had already been ripped out when I received it. I don't normally care about that sort of thing but I did pay for it and would have liked to have had the option of looking at it. Seemed too much trouble to send it back, plus I needed to have the book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Leave this one at the library.
This is a wonderful encyclopedia, but it's so packed with general information that I believe it would be best kept at the library for a quick reference to dates and events. Not for the in debt researcher. ... Read more
