5-0 out of 5 stars Brings this Stone-Campbell movement together
Articles are brief in some cases and all can be read by a lay person.I recommend this collection of history of a denomination. It also has photos where possible.

5-0 out of 5 stars Massive Volume on the Restoration Movement
THE ENCYCLOPEDIA OF THE STONE-CAMPBELL MOVEMENT is a massive volume on the people, events, theology, and churches involved in the Restoration Movement. The work covers nearly every facet of the movement from the beginnings with Alexander Campbell and Barton Stone to the various sects in the Restoration Movement such as the United Church of Christ, the mainline Churches of Christ, the International Churches of Christ, the Disciples of Christ, and many more.
5-0 out of 5 stars A Very Welcome Addition to Stone-Campbell Studies
The Churches of Christ, Christian Church and Disciples of Christ, ironically enough, all trace their origins back to the nineteenth century Christian reform and unity movement led by former Presbyterians Barton Warren Stone and the father and son team Thomas and Alexander Campbell. Known as the Stone-Campbell Movement, this tradition has a long and vaunted history, not just in the US, but around the world.

5-0 out of 5 stars A tremendous reference
Editor John Bowden has set up this encyclopedia for the new millenium - it is a collaborative effort between more than 200 scholars from around the world, and utilises icons for further reading, websites, cross-references (rather like websites), and topically pull-boxes (166 of them) that treat particular topics that come up within other articles in greater depth and clarity. There is a very thorough and comprehensive index at the back of the book which references both major and minor instances of key words, people, and places.

4-0 out of 5 stars Very Good... but...
The book is overall very good quality inside and out. It self-proclaims that it is MORE "accurate, up-to-date, complete numbering system, and user-friendly" than Vine's Complete Expository Dictionary. My review is mixed, even though overall I do like the book.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Writer's and Readers Tool
He drove an ambulance during World War 1, before becoming one of America's most famous novelists. Who wrote "Death of a Salesman"? Who wrote "Manhattan Transfer? Who created the character, Sherlock Holmes"? Holden Caulfield was the main character of what famous novel? Who wrote "Catch-22"? These are just some of the questions that "Benet's Reader's Encyclopedia" can answer.Bruce Murphy's book offers biographical notes on writers, synopsis of famous books, plays and poems, descriptions of characters and detailed explanation of literary terms and movements.
5-0 out of 5 stars Where are the tabs?
I love my 4th edition and am glad I've kept my 2nd edition as now I have the best of both worlds.New info in 4th and the deleted info in the 2nd.The only thing I would do to improve the next edition is go back to the alphabet tabulations.
5-0 out of 5 stars The more you know the more you want to know
This is the kind of work which when first dipped into leads to the temptation to dip into it more and more . The sheer amount of information is so great, the entries so various in subject that endless delight is to be found in learning more and more. There are however as with most things, a few problems and limitations.

5-0 out of 5 stars One of the best books on Matchbox Toys.
Its a big book and plenty of clear colour photos of so many examples throughout.covers every era of Matchbox toys. This type of book is superior over the wide but short books printed by this publisher. There is so much information here no matter whether you are devoted collector or just love looking at the old toys you had. This book will please most people. Its good value and high quality.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Matchbox reference book !!!
This is a great reference book, full of details and history aboutevolution of Matchbox toys. If you love Matchbox, this is a must. CharlieMack is a true expert on the subject, and this is for sure the mostcomplete and updated information about the subject. The only complains are:cover picture is not representative at all. Pictures are excelent but couldbe larger for the "reg. wheels" and "miniatures", andseveral rare cars and boxes are ommited (no space probably). However,"Tomart's Price Guide for Hot Wheels" have a much better andcontemporary graphic design and many more pictures in a smaller book, andalso with more description of individual models.

5-0 out of 5 stars Encyclopedia of Matchbox Toys Review
I feel this is a great book. Why?It has very much attention to the details of the hobby. The pictures are helpful. They price guide is quite accurate and good for reference.Mr. Mack did a wonderful job putting thisbook together.Alot of time and energy must have went into the book and itpaid off.I recommend it to new and experienced collectors alike. 3-0 out of 5 stars Neat To Read But Probably Not That Useful In Real Life
I don't know how useful this book actually is to anyone, but it makes for interesting reading, if for no other reason than because it shows that an organized grass roots countercultural "underground" is as alive and well in America today as it was when the first of these books came out back in the days of hippiedom's original flowering two generations ago.

1-0 out of 5 stars if possible, I'd get this book less than one star
In comparison to "Whole Earth Catalog:Access to Tools" the Millenium Edition was - at least to my tastes - horrifyingly bad. "Access to Tools" presented information to solve problems. The Millenium Edition seemed to be more about winning arguments, and how to repair your local 5-0 out of 5 stars If you enjoy browsing the WEBfor interesting IDEAS,then..

5-0 out of 5 stars This is THE book to read if you are Law School bound
I wasted my money on other books. The biggest waste of money was Law School Confidential. By Law in a Nutshell and don't waste your money on other books. It was terrific! It was even humorous.

5-0 out of 5 stars Buy It, Borrow It, Just Get It.
The single best book that I have found which really does explain the study and practice of law, hence the title.

4-0 out of 5 stars Helpful, not a must have

5-0 out of 5 stars Comprehensive, informative and awkward
This is the most comprehensive and informative encylopedia of poetry and poetics that I know. It at times seems so comprehensive and detailed as to make understanding of its entries possible. It is in fact so overwhelming sometimes that it confuses by telling much more than I, at least, need or want to know. It seems to me in a way a very academic work, wonderful for critics but probably of very little use in inspiring to poetry. So much knowledge about poetry is not necessarily what poetry is.

3-0 out of 5 stars Less than perfect
This book is comprehensive and probably essential for the study of poetry. But there are several serious problems. First, there is only a completely useless Table of Contents and no index. Yes, it is an encyclopedia and the entries are in alphabetical order but the subjects are very broad (Symbol, Twentieth-Century Poetics) making it necessary to scan several pages in several different subject areas without knowing if you have missed the poem or poet you are looking for. How will you know to look for comments on The Illiad under the heading of Simile or that the subject heading Intuition contains a discussion of the Neo-Platonists? Scanning pages for a specific piece of information is difficult because the print is tiny. The Preface and Acknowledgments are in big print and then they switch to very small print for the remainder of the book. You will need lots of time and a magnifying glass to take full advantage of this book.

5-0 out of 5 stars It really is
one of the three books that any student or writer of poetry needs to own, besides a good dictionary.(The other two are Pound's "ABCs of Reading" and Shapiro's "Primer.")Answers questions & points you in the right direction for more.Once you open it, you'll wonder how you got by without it. ... I found this book intriguing, so much so, I read it cover to cover like a novel, though it is a dictionary. It's very informative and gave me some names and labels for some of my prophetic idiosyncrasies.

Dr. Price always produces the revalation of the knowledge that is already in your subconscious, leaving you full of new ideas and questions. This book is very hands on and condusive to learning and research. The entries contain objective definitions, most with reference for further exploration.Simply put the dictionary is fabulous!I had one and gave it away to a friend, I quickly procured another.Enjoy it!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great book for all skill levels :)
I really like this book. One, because its mostly excercises and less writting (which is what i was looking for), two, because its easy to understand. Which is good because im not the most skilled drummer really ive only been playing a year now. It really gets your legs practicing. To be honest i havent gotten very far in the book but that is because my legs are so weak i cant seem to do any better then 8th notes for a short time. But thanks to this book my legs are getting stronger and more developed. I really recommend this book for anyone whether you are a begginner or advanced player.

5-0 out of 5 stars Finally
I've worked through just about every other double bass drum book out there and, although the exercises were interesting from a coordination/conditioning standpoint, they did not prepare me to actually play double bass drum patterns in a musical context.I was about to write my own book with exercises I'd developed but then found this book.I thank the authors for saving me the trouble! If you're interested in building double bass drum chops and only want to buy one book...this is it. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Great Relocation Resource
As just one component of your relocation research this is a great tool. While it is hard to question the underlying research presented in the book you have to look for nuances in the recommendations the authors make to gain a better understanding of a particular area. These carefully worded nuances are a critical part of gaining a true picture of the "Best Place" being rated.
3-0 out of 5 stars It's OK.
There is a lot of information here.We especially liked the 100 `family' places around the country, but isn't that what any suburb is anyway?Still, the selections are interesting.
5-0 out of 5 stars Eye-opening research

2-0 out of 5 stars Not much use for crosswords
I bought this in the hopes it would be a good reference for solving crossword puzzles. Well, I have never once found what I needed in this book. So this is a warning to others: the trivia in it is not useful for crosswords. Since the book may be good for other things, just not what I bought it for, I gave it 2 stars. To me it's worth zero.

5-0 out of 5 stars Answering life's deeper questions...
The Imponderables book series by David Feldman is the pinnacle of interesting and useful bathroom reading! Since the beginning of the series, Feldman has been highlighting questions that we didn't even know we had (like exactly why is it that a mile is 5,280 feet? and where is Donald Duck's brother?) then he finds "the experts" on any given subject to answer the question. At the end of each question and answer, you are left with a little better insight into the world around you (and you can go out and impress your friends with an expanded catalog of obscure anecdotes). 4-0 out of 5 stars How Does it Know it's Not my Toe?
Here's another installment of the"Imponderables" series, which, the jacket explains, find the answers to the conundrums over which, whether you realize it or not, you have been obsessing since your very beginning. Such as:5-0 out of 5 stars a blast to read and share with others
All of Feldman's "Why Do" books are a blast. You cannot help but read them out loud to who ever is listening. Alot of fun for older kids. He even asks for help solving some of the unsolved questions. And he acceptsquestions for future books.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Surprising
It is surpising that such wonderful and magical tales came from a land that preaches hatred and bloodshed.

5-0 out of 5 stars Handcrafted Quality
They don't make books like they used to - or, so i thought, until i bought this elegant edition of The Arabian nights.Beautifully bound, printed on high-quality paper, with an erudite introduction, and clear, but stylish font, I thought how appropriate for the publisher to release a classic such as The Arabian nights in such a 'classic' style, hearkening back to a time when great care was put into published books.
5-0 out of 5 stars The best 'Nights' yet!
Haddawy's translation is the most accurate and elegant yet. Although it does have a few quirks (typos, unfamiliar phrases) it is by far better than any other English translation of the 'Nights.' Also, the Syrian manuscript he used as the basis for his translation is now considered the standard Arabic 'Nights.' (for tales that are especially popular in the West, but are probably less authentic, such as 'Aladdin' or 'Sindbad the Sailor,' check out the second volume Haddawy's 'Nights.') If you want a more complete, but less accurate 'Nights,' check out Sir Richard Burton's translation. I personally have a few more problems with Burton's translation though: I don't want to have to read 16 volumes (10 original volumes, 6 supplementary volumes) of the 'Nights,' his writing style is slightly archaic (Burton was from the Victorian age), and sometimes he gets excessively engrossed in sexual detail and nuance that it detracts from the important aspects of whatever particular scene he is dealing with. I do also have one minor issue with Haddawy's translation (actually it's more of an issue with the manuscript he used): the third old man's tale is missing in the Story of the Merchant and the Demon (this wouldn't be much of a problem if that particular story didn't happen to be one of my favorites.) ...
