BEST RESOURCE FOR GED SUCCESS!!!
I am a vocational counselor helping adults return to school to learn a new career. Most have been out of school for 10-30 years. This tool helps them recover years of ability lost to non-use, but most especially to score much higher on their entrance exams to the colleges, which greatly reduce the number of remedial classes they have to take to bring their skills up enough to enter a degree program. In addition, those that dropped out of High School have been able to get their GED within as little as a week, or the time it takes to get scheduled into the local testing center (usually at your local Community College). It has been the single most important resource for nearly every student I have, and has proven its worth time and time again. You cannot lose with this one!

Took the GED Test
Before taking my GED test I studied for about a month using this book.My weakness is math so I figured if I did not know the geometry or trigonometry part of the test I would use deductive reasoning with the multiple choice questions.The book indicated that all questions on the actual GED test were multiple choice.Well, that was not the case.Out of 50 questions on part 1 & 2 at least 15-20 questions were NOT multiple choice! Also, please be aware that the majority of the test was based on geometry & trigonometry.Good luck to all who take this test!

Just Okay
I am a teacher in a drug rehab clinic for teens.Often I have students wanting to complete their GED.This text is nice because it offers all GED subjects in one book.However, I have found that it does not fully explain the examples given.Especially in the Math section, it will give an example then move on to the practice problems without explaining how to do the example.My students usually need step by step instructions when learning how to do solve the problems, which this book does not always offer.I will say that the book does cover a wide variety of topics within the GED so that students are exposed to many different types of problems before taking the actual test.

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED
I find it to be very self explanatory and well detailed.I did passed my G.E.D.I would highly recommend Steck Vaughn for any interested in passing their G.E.D. and it also helps in other area besides that. ... Read more

Quick delivery and very indepth book...
I was suppose to get this book anywhere between the 11th - 14th, but I got it on the 10th of that month! I got it earlier than I thought. This being early pleased me very much, but when I opened the box to get the book out I was even more impressed by the size of the book. Even further I was flipping through this book and again, I was impressed by the indepth topics. I like it very much. Although this book is not for me but instead for my mother. She is 46 and I am in my Senior year in high school. She wanted to get her GED before I left so that she would have a chance to do it. So I got on Amazon and boom! I had a good book for my mom, we start her lessons next week! LOL I get to be TEACHER!

A great help for a low price!
A great help for a low price! Two of my family members used this book (don't worry, each got their own copy - they're starting college this fall!) to brush up before taking and PASSING their GED tests. Mission accomplished! The format is easy to follow and the information is just what you need. It emphasizes finding your weaknesses so you can strengthen them. I recommend it for homeschoolers needing a great way to prove they have a high school education and anyone needing to finish their high school education.

Any indication
I'm sure to buy this book today. I have the "Weather for Dummies" book, and if that is any indication, you simply can not go wrong with this book. The "Dummies" books are always filled with in depth information. I couldn't believe the amount of information the books hold. This book is definately a safe bet.

God for non-motovated students
I bought this book for a student of mine that was planning to drop out of school. I told him that he could take the GED test and get a GED diploma. He has been using the book and says it is easy to follow and not difficult to understand the information; plus he is staying ion school untill he takes the GED test.

basic at best
The previous reviewer has it right.Use this book for phone numbers and the most general info--like what the uniform looks like for 8th graders. The parental quotes are the most egregious.And some schools are seemingly damned with faint praise (a school that educates nearly 1000 students pre-k to 12 gets a one page write-up) while others, usually UES and UWS schools, go on for page after page even though the school might only have a couple of hundred students.I have the sense that it's simply because the authors don't happen to have any friends at some schools.There's no real information here that you won't get from the school's own glossy brochures.I have a 3rd edition and a 5th edition and it is updated only on the most basic info such as tuition--even for some of the best known schools in NY.Other NYC guide books to the public schools get the format right.With people spending up to $30K per year on private schools, they deserve a better consumer guide than this one.Borrow this book--don't buy it.

Fifth Edition?Not Much is New
If you have a previous edition of this book, save your money.I read a handful of school descriptions and they were-- verbatim-- the same as in the last edition.
Very Good Introduction to NYC Private Schools
While there are many college guidebooks available, unfortunately there are only a few books about NYC private schools. And despite the different titles, these books often contain content written by the schools themselves. Refreshingly, Goldman and Hausman's book is different because it is written by two private school moms. Seeking input from private school parents and students, the two authors offer more inclusive profiles than are available elsewhere. Great book
Generally, this was a great book.Each section was elaborate, and provided several questions of which you can assess your knowledge.Along with a couple of Math B regents exams, this book provides a solid base for someone to build upon.Up until now, the Math B course really is not even in exitence in most areas, but for projects of higher math, such as a math paper, this book gives you everything you need for Seq. 2ac to Seq.3...Of course, you have the applications etcetra, which this book combines with the solid algebra 2.Great review book, and it fulfills its purpose for a 5 out of 5 ... Riddled with errors.A disaster.
I've coached reviews for the SAT I, SAT II subject tests, AP exams, PSAT and the SSAT/ISEE.I've used almost all of the test prep guides available.Barron's SSAT/ISEE2005 edition has more typos and errors on the practice tests than any guide I've ever encountered.It's as if the authors made zero effort to proofread the practice sets.Very discouraging for the student.

This is a complete rendition of combined algebra with some introductory geometry and a smattering of mathematical proofs.
Great for practicing for the regents
This book was a really great addition to my studying for the Math A regents.The book is just past regents, so it's the same exact type of questions you would get on the actual regents.It also helps to explain the answers.The only thing I would say negatively is that we received green books for two dollars in class that had all the regents in them, but not the answers or the answers explained.So if you're going to get the green books in class and your class is going over the answers, it may not be worth it.I still found it helpful to go over things on my own, and I would definitely recommend getting this book.I passed the Math A regents in January 2003 with a 90. ...
