This book is very good and very agreeable to read and learn the topics. Simple plain English and fun to read.
5-0 out of 5 stars US Citizenship for Dummies
My wife ordered this book for herself after checking out several different books that her friends were using. This book is the most complete in terms of the information available under one cover -- it also proves easy to understand and utilize for someone who has learned English as their second language. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars US Immigration Made Easy
This book has been invaluable in dealing with my family's immigration needs. It gave great assistance in bringing both my parents and my grandparents into the country legally, without having to spend too much time with legal aid lawyers. My community has many people requiring this help and I have passed this book along to them. Thanks for this guide. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Don'tWaste Your Time or $$$
I totally agree with you, as do many others. It is a very hard test that should be looked at by ETS and reviewed by the board. I wonder what the statistics are on the pass/fail rate on that test and what the average score is on the test. Buying this study guide will not help you, it is just another money making way for ETS. I had to take the test and the best way to study is to buy class room books and read through them. That is the only true way to passing this test, or getting lucky.

3-0 out of 5 stars IT was ALL Economics
This review study guide did little for history majors.yes, it certainly helped as a review from the early american history but the actual material on the test was very random questions which were NOTHING like easy review questions.I WAS HIGHLY disappointed especially since a large part was pertaining to random economic questions ... 3-0 out of 5 stars The material is good but did not like the style of this book
This is one of the three books I bought to prepare myself for the Citizenship Test.
4-0 out of 5 stars Concise and to the point
Hennessey's book is a widely used text for anyone contemplating U.S. citizenship or preparing for a U.S Constitution exam.It offers concise explanations of U.S. history, our system of government and how it works, the Constitution, and a sampling of how state government works using California as an example. My only criticism is the author's vantage point. Why is it assumed that a citizen's primary function in our society is to engage in political activity?Nevertheless, Hennessey's book is highly recommended by this reviewer.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best citizenship test prep book!

5-0 out of 5 stars USEFUL BUT.....
i will give this book five stars if only because of it's accuracy in detailing all information. HOWEVER, nobody should spend any more money than they already have (God knows how much money has been paid to get this far!) since ANY and ALL information written on this book can be found at the immigration website, www.uscis.gov.

3-0 out of 5 stars Nothing new
I read the electronic version of this book in the library. In my opinion, it is nicely presented text, but I found no new information there. It you are familiar with the Guide to Naturalization by The United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (available for free from WWW.USCIS.GOV in PDF format), you don't need this book. Questions and answers for Civic test are exactly the same, but in different order. Yes, examples in the book are different from those in the website, but still very obvious and straightforward.

5-0 out of 5 stars Good Book
I ordered this book on January 2004. I read the review before I ordered it. This book is very useful for me because I wanted to know about the Law, Exam and Interview. It may be useful for new immigrants who've been for 5 years or more. I study this book since January. I went to Boston, MA on March 15th, 2004 for an interview. And guess what, I passed it. I became a U.S. Citizen but, I may have to go to Boston again to get a Naturalization Certificate. Thank this book. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars If you only buy one book to prepare-don't buy this one
If you want to feel confident going into the INS test interview and you only want to buy one book don't buy this one. The information in Masi's book is basic and written very much for those with very limited English comprehension skills. All the information in this book can be downloaded (without the pictures) for free from the INS website. (...)

3-0 out of 5 stars GOOD BASIC DATA
I teach a class in U.S. Citizenship preparation.I found the book to be helpful in providing some basic data for the INS interview process. The book is meant for people with limited English skills, with more focus on the Spanish speaker. As such, it provides helpful information even in vocabulary skills such as might not be provided in a typical ESL class.I have found that many of my students, for instance, have never encountered the word "oath" before. This book provides an easy to understand definition of this word, along with the inclusion of a mini dictionary of other much needed vocabulary words in both English and Spanish in preparation for INS testing.I recommend the book, and most especially to the Hispanic person looking for study material for the U.S. citizenship test.

1-0 out of 5 stars Shallow book with no real information
I am lawyer from Brazil, and wanted to get real information about the green card application process (without having to go through the dry explanation in the INS website) and was completely disapointed and upset when I received this book.It does not cover anything in depth, and wastes a lot of time talking about temporary visas, fiance visas (I thougt it was supposed to explain about greencards!), special greencards for amerasians (which is not a very common situation)...
4-0 out of 5 stars Shows your options and helps to make decisions
I believe this book may be of interest to many readers. 1-0 out of 5 stars Badly written book
There is an enormous amount of detail in some apparently unimportant topics (for example on how to get a green card for your maid) and very little on very important ones (for example on labor certification). The topic of labor certification is a subsection in the chapter for "Live-In Domestic Workers" !Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellet Book for Teaching Citizenship
As a volunteer who teaches citizenship, I can say that this book, and its accompanying teacher's guide, is a good teaching tool for Citizenship for the group of students at which it is aimed - the low-beginning learner, who does not have great English skills.
1-0 out of 5 stars Do not get this book! It's unnecessary!
I just took my citizenship test today; this book was not helpful at all!5-0 out of 5 stars Easy to read and right to the point.
I have been in the field of ESL for almost 20 years now.Although I have never taught a citizenship class, civic education has been an integral part of all my ESL courses in the U.S.It had been always a problem for me tofind the "right" texts for my beginning level students until thisbook came along. The contextual connection this book makes betweenillustrations and key concepts/terms of the U.S. history and government hasbroken new ground for civic education in the ESL setting, particularly forbeginners.Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Useless
If your knowledge of English is rudimentary, this book might help with some terms (of course, you wouldn't be browsing Amazon reviews if that were the case). 4-0 out of 5 stars All you need to pass the test
This book, although basic covered everything you will need to know about American History & civics for the INS test. Ipassed the test with no problems after studying from this book and the information on the INS website. I also studied Mary Masi's book "How to Prepare for the US Citizenship test" which was really a waste of time. Masi's book was much more basic, lacked information and was written for those who have very limited English comprehension skills. If you only buy one book to get yourself through the test I recommend Alesi's book.

1-0 out of 5 stars Completely inappropriate for many people
This book is disingenuously titled. I bought it when I received my citizenship interview in order to better prepare me, and was disappointed with the book, which instead of preparing me for the test spent a great portion of its content on things that I had already done -- such as how to fill out form N-400. Thebook assumes that you have a very limited understanding of the English language, which is not necessarily true of many applicants for this test. Also it needlessly reprints many US Citizenship forms which are easily available on the INS web site. Its only value is in a brief review of the US constitution and questions you are likely to be asked in an interview -- and these questions (and correct answers, as well as an interactive test) are all also available on the INS web site.. ...
