Is outdated price whise, not enought details,
is not a bad guide for used car research but just don;t see why it worth 10 bucks, price can;t follow try online usually is more accurate, blue book or edmunds, not details of each car either very basic guide not worth the money.

It's the best information available.
I have both editions of TOP DOCTOR'S. I am waiting for the next edition, as it seems more doctors voted the second time, and some mentioned in first book are no longer there.It's the best information available.No one knows what they are getting when going into surgery, nor just how good their doctor might be. It's my "Bible". I can't do without it. I carry a copy in my car when I travel, as it has doctors in most major cities.I have sent copies of the city that my children live in, and have recommended they only go to those doctors on list.I copy the cities I travel to in case of emergency.
Disappointing Edition
I wrote the last review, giving this book high marks.That was the previous edition, however.I ordered the current edition, published in 2002, and am disappointed.The guide lists only physicians in large metropolitan areas. In Arizona, for instance,only physicians in the Phoenix area are listed, and in Washington, only those doctors in Seattle are listed.So if you live in a smaller county or are unable to travel to a large city, this book will not be helpful. A Book for Dipping Into or For Reading Cover-to-Cover
I'm more than a little surprised that this book, published in August 2005, hadn't already received a review by the time of my own review here in mid-February 2006. There has been a lot of buzz about the book, not least because it is the work of one man: Paul Griffiths, former music critic of The New Yorker and the New York Times. The book goes toe to toe with other similar books like the Oxford Dictionary of Music or the Harvard Dictionary of Music, and others of that ilk. It appears to me to be the equal of those which were written by committees of musicologists. And it has the advantage of putting forth the viewpoints of a single author. I found myself browsing with utter delight. My problem with browsing was that when I was referred from an article on, say, Beethoven to one on Handel, I would get side-tracked when, as I turned pages, I came across an article on Frau ohne Schatten, Mirella Freni, or the French sixth. But then that's part of the pleasure of a book of this sort. I took to writing down where I wanted to eventually get to in the book because most times I would get so caught up in the intervening reading that I'd forgotten where I had intended to go.

Wonderful Wealth of Knowledge
This book is a must have for anyone, novice or expert!I was looking for something that would educate me in my new "hobby" of gem collecting and ran across this valuable book.It contains sections from how to purchase great diamonds to colored gemstones (my favorites!).The first part of the book deals with examining stones, how to hold the stone when examining it, using a loupe (those round magnifying glass-type things that are used by jewlers), identifying the parts of a gem (yes, there are parts of gem such as a table, a girdle, a crown, a pavilion and a cutlet) , and the different cuts of stones (round, trilliant, pear, Marquise, oval, emerald, etc.).The second part of the book deals exclusively about diamonds, the importance of the cut and proportion, body color and grades, faulty cuts, girdle faults, popular and nonpopular shapes, desirable colors, diamond flaws, clarity and how it's determined, V, VV, S, I explained,weight, spotting frauds, and comparing diamond prices.Section 3 is about colored gemstones, determing value, gemstone treatment, fraud, purchasing colored gems, and pearls.Part 4 is about Design and Style and offers important advice before buying.Part 6, the final chapter, offers important advice after you purchase a gemstone.There's even a section that gives retail prices, by carat,on each type of gemstone!Lots of important diagrams too!My next book to purchase that will compliment this book is Gem Identificatin Made Easy by Antoinette Matlins and A.C. Bonanno.This book will explain how to use pocket, portable and laboratory instruments to identify diamonds and colored gems! Yeah, baby!No more guessing!

Perfect Starter Guide
This book is exactly what I needed to substantially increase my knowledge of colored gemstones.It contains several 4 to 5 page sections of colored gemstone pictures with identification and a very informative section that gives general price per carat ranges for a large variety of gems.I've just added loose gemstones to my retail stock and I've referred to this guide so often that I know many of the page numbers by heart.

STILL THE STANDARD BUT NOT WITHOUT ITS WEAKNESSES
It's been almost 30 years since I bought my first overstreet Guide way back in 1977 featuring a Porky Pig cover by legendary Dondald Duck artist Cark Barks.While the Overstreet Guide remains the gold standard for comic book price guides, it is now without it's weaknesses.It is certainly the most comprehensive guide listing books from the so-called platinum age to the present and this time including info on books dating back to the 1700's although calling these books "comic books" is a bit of a stretch.
Simply the best!
This book is the industry standard for pricing comics.Additionally, it contains a good amount of info on grading, history, CGC and more.

Expansive review!
I have been keeping up with AV via periodicals and product pamphlets. This was to me not a lot of new information but for folks who are just starting out, this would be a GREAT place to begin. Not too tech-y, tech-y enough when it needs to be. A decent overall offering that does what it says.

NOT for Everyone
I purchased this book as a requirement for a new job.I recently left the practice of law and went to work for a company that designs, sells and installs home theaters.Having graduated from law school, one would think I could understand just about everything.Wrong.This book touts itself as one that is for the masses - the everyday schmo who is looking to do this themselves.While extraordinarily well written, it is NOT for everyone.It is overly complex and technical for the everyday guy and is more apropos for electrical engineers or experts in the field.finally, the issue I received was supposed to be a recent edition and, if it was, it's already painfully out of date and needs revamped.

Some good stuff here - Some is total nonsense!
Robert Harley is a "high-end audiophile" and you need to keep that in mind when reading thru any of his books. In "Home Theater For Everyone", he provides a lot of useful information.But he also supplies a lot of "hokum" as well. That is, there is much in this books that he states as fact when infact it is nothing more than his own (often erroneous) opinion.

Anyone who has made enough transactions with Amazon.com can tell you, Amazon.com has its share of foul-ups.And when mistakes (that are bound to happen from time-to-time) do happen, the biggest errors occur in their customer service department.For me, I know that I have written e-mail after e-mail complaining about RUDE, ERRONEOUS and downright FRAUDULENT communication emanating from the unskilled and unsupervised excuse for a customer service department only to have other unskilled, unsupervised hacks respond.I kept explaining that I was not seeking compensation, I was trying to complain about Amazon.com's customer service, but Amazon.com either doesn't care or doesn't have a mechanism to care.My e-mails which always started, please forward this to so-and-so's supervisor never were.I can't wait for the follow-up to this book."How To Write Letters Of Complaint to OUTSOURCED INDIANS WHO DON'T UNDERSTAND HOW THE AMERICAN CONSUMER WANTS TO BE TREATED!!"

Disappointed
The Washington, DC section is only 14 pages which is short considering only 1 store is on each page and she omitted suburban MD and VA. In the intro she mentions that Bethesda and Alexandria are just a short distance away, but she doesn't list any stores. The big furniture stores are only found in MD and VA, not within DC.

Not Enough Relevant To Me
I sat down with this book last night expecting to start the first of several nights of reading. I threw it aside about 15 minutes later surprised that I had reviewed every part that was relevant to me.

I thought this book was excellent and helpful. It really made furniture shopping fun and efficient. An excellent guide for what to look for in a gemstone, how to identify a gemstone, and lots of info on the listed gemstones throughout the book.

excellent resource
Loads of information, nicely illustrated. More info on origin,judging clarity / transparency / quality and more on pricing than Smithsonian Gemstones, naturally, cause its called "buying guide". Althugh I am not a hound, and cannot afford to buy the stones, I am very happy to have bought the book.

great introduction to gemstones
This is a great introduction for the beginner.Lots of color photographs of both cut gemstones and finished jewelry make this a beautiful book.The author goes over shape and cutting style, carat, color, clarity, cut quality and treatments.She also explains the difference between synthetic and natural stones.The last part of the book has entries for various gemstones with detailed descriptions of the qualities of each.Again with lots of photos.After reading this I do feel comfortable comparing stones and prices. ... Very Good
The only thing I found lacking about this book is that it didn't rate the mystery shopping companies it listed. I found many of them to be an awful experience applying to. I hope she makes a second edition explaining the pros and cons of the companies she listed, and what they do and don't offer (like pay.)

Good for the beginner
If you are trying to decide or have made that big decision to start an eBay business, check out this title. It's not wordy but gives good guidance.As well as the usual Table of Contents and Index (which are well done), there is an initial page that gives you Contents at a Glance.This is a nice and unusual touch that keeps you from any unnecessary searches because the Table of Contents is lengthy.Also, contained in the Introduction are adequate and easy to understand instructions on use.Be sure to read this before jumping ahead and you will be very pleased with your purchase. You will become an A++ seller.

Rich Is Not A Four-Letter Word
This is a very simple book, as the other reviews have indicated. I liked it so much that I bought it for my collection of business and finance books. It is a keeper book that I highly recommend. Don't depend on Social Security... build your nest egg, at any age. NOW is a good time!!!
A most needed guide
Sara and I have struggled with financial planning particularly as a result of the recent market turmoil.The Jorgensens' book has served as a much needed guide to managing our money.It emphasizes the basics and is understandable.Unlike other investment books which fail to encompass the whole picture, this book is complete and thorough.We would recommend it to anyone interested in taking a proactive role in managing their money.

Entertaining Wine Tales and Practical Advice

Great Stuff for the Wine Lover Unorganized or Not
As most of my friends and family know, I love wine. I most partial to the Cabs, BUT if the mood and food call for it I like a Shiraz too. However, they also know I'm too busy to keep anything in any kind of order. This book is great. Offering insight to collectors and how to keep inventory.
