4-0 out of 5 stars A good place to begin
I bought this book after beginning the home buying process and have realized a few mistakes I have already made, according to the author. This book's greatest help and heaviest emphasis is on choosing a good, qualifiedagent which is the info I was searching for, in an easy-to-read format.Irecommend this book as a place to start for first-time home buyers.

1-0 out of 5 stars A book by a realtor for realtors
This is a decent guide about how to select a realtor and prioritize what you are looking for in a home. However, most of the book is a dissertaion on the home real estate industry and why realtors are so important. Theyare essential in the process, but there are many more varialbles in theequation.Mortgages, offers, and inspections are some of these variables, which are barely glossed over in this tome. 5-0 out of 5 stars I've never read a more practical, useful book on homebuying
This is a book written by someone who HAS "been there and done that."Carla's experience is based upon years in the trenches actually doing deals and thus it is much more useful than a book written bysomeone who has only talked with agents. Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Resource Book
I enjoyed this book because of it's detailed accounts of Marx toys that I grew up with. The price guide is also handy when I'm out looking for Marx items for my sisters' collections.History of a manufacturer is always interesting and the photographs help define the pieces I'm searching for.I appreciate a good book that shows great effort extended in presenting the information. I would recommend this book to the serious toy buyer and to new seekers of antique Marx toys.Kudos to the author!

5-0 out of 5 stars The Marx Toy Sampler
I found this to be an ideal route to fond memories of my childhood. Many of the toys in this book were basis of severalChristmas dreams. As a baby boomer, I have been collecting the dollhouses and furniture with the hope that my granddaughter will appreciate them, too! This is a good reference guide to have!

5-0 out of 5 stars Marx Toys Sampler is a Winner for Collectors
This book would be a great companion book. Most Marx toys collectors would benefit from information on part numbers, years of production and viewing the wonderful selection of photographs featured in the book. The book covers about 30 years worth of knowledge on toys produced at the Glen Dale plant site. There is even a partial price listing on items that Ms. Smith and Mr. Whipkey were familiar with. All in all.A good book. ... Fashion fads come and go, but shopping for bargains is always in style. Millions of visitors come to California's Bay Area yearly, and millions more live there. 4-0 out of 5 stars good resource
While I haven't used this book to shop until I drop, I have used it when I want to shop for something specific. It is organized by type of items sold but also has an index in the back that allows you to see what stores are in a certain location (by city). I like the latter because I found there was a store I used to go to elsewhere (out of my way) right around the corner from my office. I also use it to find other stores that are near a place I am already headed for. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A history of production methods rounds out a fascinating course for any who even casually enjoy whisky.
WHISKY CLASSIFIED: CHOOSING SINGLE MALTS BY FLAVOUR isn't just for the avid whisky pro: it cuts out the jargon and provides an easy survey for newcomers, too, identifying twelve dimensions to the aroma and taste of a single malt whiskey and covering the distilleries of Scotland. Each distillery receives a description, the author'' own tasting notes, and explanations of taste. A history of production methods rounds out a fascinating course for any who even casually enjoy whisky.

2-0 out of 5 stars Plays like a broken record......
It's interesting for five minutes...and that's when you are flipping through the pages.
5-0 out of 5 stars Thoughtful and perceptive
This book changed the way I view my own habits of consumption.I found his analysis of contemporary trends in consumption interesting and provocative. Also interesting was his conclusion that as people grow accustomed to the new means of consumption that they have to be continually impressed by something new.I thought his remarks on the architecture of the "cathedrals of consumption" were also very important. The most unsettling aspect of the book was Ritzer's comparison of modern styles of consumption with religious institutions, and even the conformity of religious institutions to this new means of consumption (i.e., the mega-churches of today). It was a good read, too, not too dense or pretentious.Very engaging.

1-0 out of 5 stars please do not buy this book
this has to be the most superficial and simplistic account on the new means of consumption; i.e., malls, theme parks, casinos, etc. it is hardly believable that ritzer takes in a seriuos manner his naive arguments, that in several occasions turn into pure idle talk, or worst pure stupidity. just to give one example, when he mentions that malls have their roots in the ancient greek and roman markets. although he states that his work is heavely influenced by the writtings of baudrillard he never explains in his matter why we consume in the first place. even worse, he never gives a concrete argumentation of why this world is disenchanted in the first place and why it has to be enchanted. so please do not make the same mistake that i did and do not buy this book. it is the first time that i have read something by this author but i think i had enough of him for the rest of my life. i might be a joy-killer to use the term of ritzer to describe an anthropologist but i least i am not as simplistic and stupid as he is. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars It got me the exact car I wanted.
Without reading this book, I never would have thought to contact the seller and make an offer that would end the auction immediately. As a result, I was able to get the exact car I wanted, and the seller got his cash the next day, without having to worry about possibly flaky bidders. Win-win.
1-0 out of 5 stars Ebay Motors, the smart way
"eBay Motors, the smart way". Obviously written by a ghost writer, who relates the information second hand. A poorly written book. Lots of useless, impractical dictionay style information. The two "crafty" authors make a feeble attempt at providing actual applicable selling and buying methods, however they fail miserably. On a positive note, a real catchy cover. Numerous blank pages inside, lots of white pages of air space. An obvious attempt at stretching this book out to 290 pages. Frankly, after purchasing and reading, it was a total waste of time and money. This book is a real "dud". Peter Vrouhas, Boynton Beach, FL

2-0 out of 5 stars Very limited...
I couldn't find a lot of real information for buying and selling on e-bay with this book. The book seems to have more on common sense than on laws and regulations. I admit that I bought the book to learn more about buying and selling as a hobby and I find it more directed at first time buyers or buyers only interested in buying or selling once. He gives no references to state laws or regulations. I found that in order to make the book work I had to find majority of the important information online.

1-0 out of 5 stars It's good if you have never used the Internet before!
If you are even slightly net-savvy, you will know about most of the sites and deals mentioned in the book. I think every parent to be can figure out the websites for pampers, huggies, gerber etc etc. Most of the so-called "free" stuff is useless anyway eg. when she says free maternity clothes, what she REALLY means is you can write to a manufacturer for a free CATALOG for the clothes. The wording is very misleading. I think the only person who will end up getting free stuff for baby is the author, with all the people she is ripping off with this book,

5-0 out of 5 stars A great book to cuddle up with
This book was literally my companion while I waited for the DVD to be available for purchase, allowing me to get my "LOTR fix" whenever I needed it.The pictures are wonderful, as are the descriptions of the characters.
5-0 out of 5 stars An exceptional book
I have loved Lord of the Rings forever so when I saw this book, I HAD to have it.My impulses were right, this book was fantastic! It had incredible pictures, wonderful character analysis, and cool, interesting movie tidbits. For a movie as unforgettable as the Lord of the Rings, The Fellowship of the Ring visual companion is the only book that could possibly do it justice is The Fellowship of the Ring Visual Companion. This book is a must for any Lord of the Rings Fan!

5-0 out of 5 stars A great visual foundation
I actually purchased this book after having received the visual companion to the Two Towers for Christmas last year. As with the second book, the LoTR book provides an excellent overview with pictures of all of the major characters from the first film, giving you a little more insight into the nature of each of the different creatures. 2-0 out of 5 stars Some good info, but not enough
For the reader who currently knows nothing about water contamination and purification, this is a decent book, since it provides some eye-opening information. However, there are better books out there, depending on what you're looking for.5-0 out of 5 stars Very Scary!Excellent Read! A Must for Every Nutritionist
I just got finished reading this book in between classes, and all I can say is WOW!Be aware, and beware of your tap water. If these statistics are correct, then the EPA and the U.S. government are not concerned withprotecting your right to clean water, and therefore, you must educateyourself in order to protect against degenerative disease. 5-0 out of 5 stars Read this book! It contains vital information.
This book is certainly a very factual and "blunt" book about the seriousness of our domestic water quality. With the coming "Y2K" event on the horizon, I believe Lono A'o's comments are even moreappropriate and noteworthy.I have given this book a 5 star and I amgiving serious thought to making this book a required reading for all thestudents in my Environmental Studies class at New England College. That'show serious I believe the issue is. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars SUZY IS THE BEST OUT THERE......BAR NONE
I have traveled to Europe and Asia with a trusty Born To Shop Guide Book many times and Suzy gives me the best overall advice. Every once in a while a new writer will come on board with no experience and forgot to warn us of the pitfalls of being a "Rich American Traveler"-Suzy has steered me clear of many problems while traveling alone. This is the reason I ADORE her and have even bought the older versions just to compare information. Time moves on and locations change.
1-0 out of 5 stars Don't bother!
Don't bother buying this book. First, none of the Born To Shop books get updated much between editions, so lots of information is out of date.Second, Suzy Gershman is totally out of touch with reality.I took a shopping tour to Italy with a company called Shop Around Tours and obviously a lot of us had this book. The tour leader warned us not to pay too much attention to it and she was right.BUT we went to Mantero, which is one of the places mentioned in the book, and it was great.Otherwise, the people that went off on their own following Suzy's wild goose chases were very disappointed. So the shopping in Italy was great, but this book was a waste of money.

1-0 out of 5 stars Full of inaccuracies
Suzy Gershman needs to retire already. All of her books, including this one, are full of inaccuracies. Each edition is barely updated, so there's no need to buy the new version if you have an old one. It's time Frommers dropped Gershman and hired someone under the age of 70 to update these books that shops NOW and knows what they're talking about. These Born To Shop books are an amusing read but a complete waste of money if you're looking for current information. ... 3-0 out of 5 stars Not as comprehensive as I'd like...
I'm a first-time mom-to-be considering cloth diapering our baby. I find the world of cloth diapering really overwhelming (who knew there were 18 different ways to fold a piece of cloth, and then 24 different accessories that work with each different fold!?).I bought this book becuase I wanted an overview of the options, and a description of what would be necessary to do cloth diapering.
5-0 out of 5 stars An Excellent Book by a Devoted Mother
I have very rarely read a book that is written by a mother who shows so much compassion towards children and mothering. This book was extremely helpful in both its practical and philosophical persepctives on mundane issues such as diapering, and deeper issues, such as breast feeding, loving your children and attachment parenting. Truly this is a woman of great conviction and wisdom.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great starting point for a newbie! (3rd Edition review)
I found this book to be extremely helpful as a person just entering the world of cloth diapering.I started doing some online research on the DiaperPin and MDC sites and found it to be information overload. It is all so overwhelming - I needed a basic place to start. There are TONS of online resources - but if you are like me - and get a headache when you read too long/staring at the computer screen - you prefer a book you can hold in your hand and read.

4-0 out of 5 stars The definitive guide to the Cessna 150 /152
The Cessna 150 / 152, by Bill Clarke, published by Tab Books4-0 out of 5 stars Fine 150/152 buyer's and owner's guide
This is a very good book for anyone planning to buy a 150/152. It describes all the model variations, and gives helpful shopping advice for those already sold on one of these planes, and the "HangarFlying" section will only reinforce your decision. It has goodtechnical info on maintenance and ADs as well. A few more good photos, andit'll be perfect. ... Read more
