Very good reference for librarians who classify and catalogue different documents
This is very comprehensive works for classification and catalogue of documents,including intenet resources.However,one new concept--FRBR and its recently research hadhardly reviewed, maybe the author has notenough materials, though this new concept and model had been suggested for eight years.The othor regret is about the classification, the work reviewed detailedly about DDC,LCC,but hardly reviewed about the other classifications,which use languages other than English.I think the researcher in the apoch of Internet should have a global perspective, not just limited in the only one country,or only one language world(eg.English).I hope the next edition can be improved in these respects. ... Getting Yours: The Complete Guide to Govt. Money
This book might be a lot more helpful if it were updated regularly. The current--third--edition is from 1986, which is ludicrous with subject matter this volatile. The content itself is a bit too brief, but would still be very helpful if it had been done some time in the last 1-5 years.

Keep this one away from the kiddies!
I thought this was basically alright.We liked DK much better, and found ourselves using it a lot more.DK was better at grammar and pronunciation as well.The layout was good and easy to follow (Lonely Planet).However, a word of caution,there is a whole social section of phrases that you will want to keep away from the kids!This is clearly an adults only phrase book!

A great, basic phrasebook
This book has worked out great for me.I bought it for my trip to the climbing area, El Potrero Chico, in Mexico.Lucky for me, English will get you by around the climbing area.However, when I wander into town, Spanish is a necessity.This book is by no means comprehensive, but it's great for a book that fits in your pocket.If I knew nothing about the language, it might not be enough.However, since I took Spanish 10 years ago in High School and remember the basics, it is perfect.I only have one small complaint...I know it is not meant as a 2-way dictionary, but it does have a small one with important words in it.I would prefer it if that section was larger.

3rd edition was better
I originally picked up the 3rd edition some time ago, and found it to be a wonderful reference.The layout was easy to follow, and the dictionary had most of the words that I would use in brief conversations.The grammar section also helped me pick up the lttle differences that seperated Spanish form Portuguese.Because it was so pratical and user friendly I decided to pick up a set of these books for a brief Spanish course I was going to teach.Unfortunately the 4th edition almost entirely left out any talk on grammar.While not much of an issue if the book is used exclusively as a phrasebook, it is extremely limiting in what this book can teach you.Lists of common verbs are absent.List of conjugations are also absent.Unbelievable!While the layout has improved, and the food dictionary is nice, I can't beleive they would voluntarily leave out any discussion of verb conjugation!For this reason I really can't recommend buying this book.Look for the 3rd edition.The breif information on grammar there makes the two books worlds apart in how far they will take you in picking up the language. ... Great Guide!
This is a terrific book to use to navigate the Hollywood area for anyone interested in the movies.We drive up and down streets with my husband calling out names and events and loved it.We are locals in the San Fernando Valley and for the LA person comenting that changes have occurred in the area and streets over the years, "duh!."Some of the addresses are 100 years old but in the odd case that a street is not there or has been moved, as far as we could tell there was a note included.We didn't check everything, but we didn't have any problem using the lists.THis is a great resource for movies and LA history and great fun for vacations.It's heavy though!

I am a tour guide in Hollywood - one of the very few that actually research our tours.I thought I knew a lot about Hollywood, but this book made my jaw hit the floor.
Incredible, just incredible!
I envision E.J. Fleming huddled over a pc reviewing census information and entering data in a database and cross checking it against his formidable stacks of notebooks. E.J. is tired, tired, tired. He has worked day and night so I don't have to. Stop, I'm just kidding but this is an incredible collection of information. I am in total awe re: how someone could collect so much data, collate it, and present it in an easily accessible manner.

BUY IT, READ IT, AND JUST DO IT!!!!!!!!!
The alternate title of this book should be:THE ~COMPLETE~ AND ONLY GUIDE TO COLLEGE DEGREES BY MAIL AND INTERNET YOU WILL NEED TO READ.Excellent and up-to-date information regarding courses, tuition, residency requirements.I will FINALLY be able to confidently and comfortably select 'THE' Masters Program that is right for me!Tuition is quite varied and ranges from low to very high...Bears' Guide saved me the time and frustration of looking at schools with astronomically high tuition rates.If you are just beginning to look at Distance Learning programs, have been looking for awhile and are not able to make a decision, or you are just thinking about a DLP, this book is essential.

I only wish I had known about this 20 yeras ago!
If you want to get your education and not go into slavery with your student loans. Then get this book ASAP, it covers just about everything one needs to know on how to get your degree. I really think the future of higher education is going this way. But if you want to spend a lot of time, money, grief and get a real ration of manure. Then don't read this book!

Amazing Book for Anyone Interested In Distance Learning
As I have been contemplating receiving my Bacherlor's degree through a University's Distance Learning Program, I was lost as to where to start. That is, until I found this book. BEARS' GUIDE TO COLLEGE DEGREES BY MAIL & INTERNET. John Bear's book contains listings of tons of colleges, that offer correspondence, independent study, and internet degrees. With information about each school, website addresses, e-mail addresses, etc. that make it easy for the interested party to find out everything they need to know. One thing that I recommend to everyone is to find out the accreditation agencies that support the schools listed before you sign up with them, as not all are regionally accredited. Overall, this was a fantastic book, and a must have for anyone who is interested in pursuing a degree through distance learning.Read more

Very Good Overall College Guidebook
Very good alternative to the Barrons and Princeton Review books.Great and useful rankings.Very relevant advice and supplemental features.Definitely the #1 college guide, but b/c there was no CD-ROM that I thought would help, I gave it 4 stars instead of 5.

4.5 Stars... the most complete "objective" college guide
There are many, many college search guides and books out there. The Princeton Review has a couple of good ones. But if you are at the very beginning of the process for your son or daughter (as I am currently with my daughter), you should absolutely take a look at this book.
These Encyclopdeia Guides are All Great
As someone who has been through the process, personally and for children and nieces and nephews etc, I have this advice: Get an encyclopedia guide for colleges. There are a few great ones and each has strengths over the others.But, basically each is good enough and complete enough where owning one will do the trick.Your choices are Fiske Guide to Colleges 2007 (Fiske Guide to Colleges), Best 361 Colleges, 2006 (College Admissions Guides) and this book. You must have one!!!!

The Helms have put together an excellent introductory guide to doing genealogical research online. They've avoided the usual trap of organizing their book by resources, which may be easy for the author but makes it harder on the user. So instead of devoting this chapter to useful Web sites, that chapter to valuable newsgroups, and so forth, they've organized the book in a way closer to the way you'd organize good family research. very basic
This book is for the beginner genealogist. It tells you how to plan your research and what kind of computer equipment to have. It takes you step by step in certain websites. It is extremely boring, even for a genealogy book. I was hoping for more info on what is contained in individual websites, where to find certain types of documents and explantions of software available to the genealogist. It is great if you don't have a clue but if you can navigate the internet on your own, you don't need this book. I will use it occasionally but The Genealogy Sourcebook and The Source: A Guidebook of American Genealogy are much more in depth.
