4-0 out of 5 stars 4+ Stars
Excellent resource and touchstone for new entrepreneurs or floundering entrepreneurs. I purchased this book a few months ago when my husband and I were evaluating a business we wanted to buy. Mr Kiyosaki brings up several interesting and realistic aspects of self employment, while showing how to evaluate what type of business person you are. This book helped us become more self aware of our strengths and our weaknesses. The writing was relaxed and easy to understand. I have now passed the book on to a nephew that is a beginning entrepreneur and told him it is, "a must read."

4-0 out of 5 stars Definitely read this book before you quit your job
"Before You Quit Your Job" by Robert Kiyosaki is a book of advice targeted to those thinking about becoming entrepreneurs. In my opinion, this book was definitely needed after reading Robert Kiyosaki's previous books.
5-0 out of 5 stars More of the same, but great author background information
Great book! Probably the best of the "Rich Dad" series. I've read a few of them and haven't learned too much since my background includes being a CPA and attorney. However, what I liked the most about THIS book was the background information about the authors that is disclosed.

2-0 out of 5 stars MostDisappointing
Having worked in the mental health community for sometime, I was already familiar with this technique and have been using it already.I felt the book was really droll and somewhat condescending in tone.I wouldn't purchase it again. His companion book "Why Employees Don't Do What They're Supposed to Do and What to Do about It" is a more practical read and enjoyable too--I would recommend that one.

4-0 out of 5 stars Coaching for Improved Work Performance
Good, basic book on how to work with employees to uncover and address performance issues.

5-0 out of 5 stars Highly Recommended!
Novice and experienced managers, coaches and teachers, and anyone else who wants to influence other peoples' behavior or performance will benefit from Ferdinand F. Fournies' book on coaching. 4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent!
Change and transition have become the norm for most organizations today.Change is difficult, unpredictable and demanding, and can threaten a company's success. In order to cope with change, your organization and its people must be able to balance between the familiar and the unfamiliar. You must be able to absorb as much change as possible without slipping into chaos. In order to do this, you must take steps to make your organization and its employees more nimble. The author provides the following advice for companies to become more flexible in an environment of constant change:
4-0 out of 5 stars Insightful!
Daryl R. Conner's book operates under the assumption that the future of business will be steeped in chaos. Thus, it tries to prepare the leaders of the future for the kinds of challenges that result from chaos. These challenges will primarily involve employees, since every person reacts differently and usually unfavorably, to change. The companies that marshal an agile workforce and adapt quickly to unexpected circumstances will do the best in this unstable environment. This thoroughly researched book gives leaders a decisive look at what happens when the human psyche tries to navigate change. Conner documents the problems people have when they deal with change and offers a disciplined strategy for making your organization more limber. Even if you've heard many of the key concepts presented before, as you navigate the waters of change, this calm, lucid manual will keep your hands steady at the helm. Therefore, we [...] recommend it to everyone who is confronting change, and that is everyone.
5-0 out of 5 stars Capitalizing on the emotional edge-
The consideration of the human component of the organization should not be overlooked- nor it's importance be minimized. Anyone who has ever tried to lead the unwilling or otherwise disinterested can appreciate the value of the Human Due Diligence model.Recent focus on employee satisfaction polling and scores underline today's concern with the "happy" employee, assuming that he/she is also the more complient, resilient and productive one. This book is a melding of how humans function in transition and organizational change. It provides a formula and certainly a novel slant to a topic much written about.Daryl Connor has taken concern for employee's feelings about their work environment directly to the heads of corporations and their boards. He creates a replicable framework on which to build an organization that can recognize, adapt to, and recover from change faster than it's competition. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars QUESTION AFFECT BEHAVIOR
Iread it in two sittings and came away very imp;ressed. Adams showed how these principles worrk in both aprofessional setting add apersonal setting.I liked how she talked about cultivating the observer withhin. It did leave me with this question: why not discuss seeing likfe through the third--person perspective?Doesn't that practice autoatically make one more obser vant of oneself? Why were these seven tools left unnumbered?Isn't it wiseer to encourage readers to focus on developing one practice at a time?In reality, few people will adopt this system totally. Most will use only those techniiques thatapply to their particular situation and needs.
5-0 out of 5 stars If you want better results and solutions, learn how to ask better questions-- Adams shows you how in this excellent book
The concept is simple but incredibly powerful: Learn how to ask different questions and get different (improved) results. Dr. Adams walks readers through the steps to recognizing implicit questions and changing them. The concepts in this book apply to your life, career, and relationships, and I applaud Adams for writing this book and helping people get unstuck and make major changes.
5-0 out of 5 stars For the novice and expert alike
As a business leadership coach, I find that Marilee's practical insights become empowering if as the reader we practice and apply.

4-0 out of 5 stars A good place to start
When i started preparation for the PMP certification exam the first book i read was the PMBOK guide. i must admit i found it a bit difficult to understand. Acting upon the advice of a friend i procured a copy of this reference and wnet through it. Its pretty straightfwd but at the same time it enhances one's ability to appreaciate the concepts of the PMBOK guide which because clearer to my mind. hence, i would say its a good reference to start with. going back to basics is sometimes good!

3-0 out of 5 stars A bit too disjointed
I find this a bit jumpy, hard to keep the context. Examples may be a bit dated.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good introduction to Project Management
This is a good book for beginners. If you are a seasoned Project Manager, you probably won't find this book of much interest.

3-0 out of 5 stars Limited Good Info. Maybe Usabale
I have to tell you.... this author is really not a writer, BUT he has something to say. It's true about the poor presentation, grammar issues, etc. BUT, like I said the author does have something to say - moreso in everyday layman's language. I believe he could have spent a little money on having it properly published - nicer layout, proofing, etc., BUT even I got the message. Trust me you have more to gain than lose.
4-0 out of 5 stars This book in very helpful
I was impressed with the writing in this book. I think that this book should be used as a teaching guide.

1-0 out of 5 stars Good for people thinking about starting in the industry, terrible for everyone else
I've been in the mortgage industry for a very short time (about 7 months), but I am always looking for new ways to sharpen my client interaction techniques.I was very excited to see this book, but once I read through it, I've got to say I'm very disappointed.Anyone whose been in the industry for more than 3 months could have written the content inside this book; it's more of an overview of how the mortgage industry works. That, plus the second half of the book is a marketing tool for more expensive training programs (up to $500 for something you can find at loantoolbox) give this book 1 paltry star. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars On Becoming a Leader
The book On Becoming a Leader by Warren Bennis was originally published in 1989, however over the years it was credited with being one of the best books on the topic of leadership, so the author has added a new introduction in an attempt to make the book just as valuable in 2005's world as it did in the world of the late 1980's.
4-0 out of 5 stars Speaks with Knowledge (4.5 stars)
As to say, this is a must-have for leaders alike who like to lead or teach members or families to become successful in acheiveing in better goals and higher equalities. This is not something to hate you know. It's certainly a great book to start to show yourself approval like what it saids on the Bible (which I read all the time) in 2 Tim 2:15.
3-0 out of 5 stars Should have been better
When the author sticks to discussing leadership, I found this book very readable and easy to understand. The book is written in a very easy to follow format and he explores the personal side of leadership. He presents some very altruistic ideas the sound very good, however, aren't always practical in the real world. This book would have received a higher rating for me also if Mr. Bennis would have refrained from all the political commentary throughout the beginning of his book. His repeated support for a former president while being less than flattering of the current president put too much of a political overtone in the beginning and really turned me off.It wouldn't matter if I agreed with Mr. Bennis or not, it simply didn't have a place in what would have otherwise been a very good book. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Useful insights, practical exercises.
Written in 1979, People Skills is a classic in the field of communication skills. Like many people, I decided to read this book after it turned up on a must-read list for consultants and business people. The book offers a useful and practical guide to someone looking to improve their effectiveness in interpersonal situations. It is broken down into Listening Skills, Assertion Skills, and Conflict Management Skills.
3-0 out of 5 stars Starts strong, ends weak
Most books give you 2-3 really good nuggets of insight, hidden in a dry prairie of "heard-it-all-before." Such is the case with People Skills. Most of the content is obvious - have a pleasant demeanor when listening, reflect what you've heard, and so on. Not very insightful.
5-0 out of 5 stars Classic and Vital
This was part of my "assigned reading" when I first became an IT consultant. It does a fantastic job of providing practical guidance to anyone who interacts with people (i.e., all of us). There are numerous example dialogues and many gems of advice. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars WOW Eye opening
After taking a detailed teleclass on interview training from an outplacement coach /resume writer (http://www.callfranklyspeaking.com), she recommended some further reading to make me an expert. I found this book to be really perfect after what I had learned. Straight and to the point.

5-0 out of 5 stars Good insight on how interviews go - step-by-step
I've had good interviews before, but since it's 4 years since I did my last job search, I decided to get some good insight on the subject.

2-0 out of 5 stars Good read, but too rudimentary
One thing is for sure - if you really intend to start your own retail business, Retail Business Kit for Dummies will not take you far. It is very rudimentary, to say the least. My real disappointment is because of the CD that came with the book, supposedly full of useful forms, reports etc. They looked as if they were written with a typewriter.Anyway, regardless of your profile, I do not think that this book will help you open or run a successful retail business, nor significantly compliment your existing knowledge.
5-0 out of 5 stars A must read for the beginner
I could hardly put this book down after receiving it.I especially liked the section on writing a business plan.Lots of detail in this book.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great for basics, too general for experienced marketers
I should preface this review by saying that I am probably not the typical reader the author had in mind when writing this book.As a marketing consultant, I was recently was engaged to develop retail feasibility study and project plan for an Internet retailer planning their first bricks and mortar store.Although I have retail marketing experience, I bought this book to make sure that I had all bases covered and to get some fresh ideas on visual merchandising, retail POS systems and operations for small retailers.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Deep Change or Slow Death?
In this wonderful book, Quinn challenges us to confront our own hypocrisy and make a choice between deep change or slow death -- that is to say between commitment or disengagement. It's actually not an easy choice to make. Most of us have taken the easy path and chosen not to speak out when w've known what needed to be changed. Or, we've run from a difficult work situation, leaving the problems behind for someone else to clean up, not admitting our part in the failure or taking responsibility for changing ourselves.
5-0 out of 5 stars An Eye Opener
This is probably the best book I have seen that tackles the theory behind how groups or corporations grow and change over time.I found it particularly helpful in seeing our church from an organic point of view. The writing is more metaphysical than I like at the beginning, but by working through it, I was better able to understand the remainder of the book.
4-0 out of 5 stars Change at a Core Level
This book is for readers who are ready to look inside themselves in order to change their organizations. It isn't a book for novices. You need a fair amount of business experience to have the perspective to understand author Robert E. Quinn's message. Likewise, you need to have enough invested in your current organization to care if it changes. Quinn offers some theoretical analysis, but leavens it with ample practical examples and exercises. If you have a job, rather than a career, or if you are committed to staying in a narrow, technical field or just waiting for your retirement, skip this book. However, if you're willing to engage in extended self-examination, we suggest this to you. However, be warned that that many of Quinn's drills are emotionally challenging, such as identifying how you resist change or pegging which elements of your organization are more committed to the status quo than to success. But, then, whoever said change was easy? ... Read more

I think the CD included with this book is a marvelous tool for the facilitator. The powerpoint and overhead slide presentations on the CD give you training programs for two days, one day, half day or one hour. The book itself walks you through step by step on how to design an effective training program. This is simple enough to follow for even the novice trainer, yet it is comprehensive enough to meet a seasoned trainers needs. I plan on incorporating many of the learning activities in our training program. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars One of my first book on selling, one of the classics
When I started as a sales engineer, out of university at 27 yo (ok, so I was kind of slow) and lured into a company by my boss who saw a great potential in selling for me, eventhough I told him i never sold even a needle in my life, I bought this book a year later in a fleamarket, the cover was worn down, the edition older than me.. its true what they say, you cannot judge a book by its cover..

5-0 out of 5 stars I am a believer
Alright...alright. Admittedly I tried to find flaws in this book because 5 stars from every reader is just unheard of. Well, I see why now. This is a great book. I like Joe Girard's book on selling but this book is better because it's not very manipulitive. It's not really deceiving like a car salesman tactics. It's borderline teaching you proper manners. It's funny, I have read many sales books recently and all of the author's write about these same principles. This book is great to read over and over again to get inspired. If you are in to any type of sales, even MLM this book should be studied. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars A Worthwhile Read even for time management junkies
The Stephen R. Covey engine has kicked out numerous books on self-help, and they consult 200 out of the top 500 Fortune companies. After all of those books and years, they have heard enough stories and waded through enough crisis situations to get a good handle on what works and does not work in all of those environments.
4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent thesis camouflaged by flowery writing
The author of "First Things First," Stephen Covey, Roger Merrill, and Rebecca Merrill, are all involved with the Franklin Covey Company--a company most known for training individuals and institutions in "The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People."The purpose of "First Things First" is to provide an expanded, fuller treatment of some aspects of the Seven Habits. These aspects include the concepts of "Sharpening the Saw" (making time to renew and develop your mental, social, physical, and spiritual health), Quadrant II (things that are important yet not urgent), Personal Mission Statements, What Matters Most (making sure you spend your time in the most important activities and relationships), Roles and Goals, Synergy and Inter-dependence, and Leadership Styles.
