5-0 out of 5 stars Nice tool for new teachers.
This book is a practical resource for new secondary teachers. The authors discuss classroom set-up, student resources, and behavior problems. There are many ideas ready for application in your own classroom and no boring or unnecessary narratives that most classroom management books have.
5-0 out of 5 stars Harry K. Wong Implements Research of Evertson
In his video series "The Effective Teacher" Part II: The First Days of School, Harry Wong cites the work of Carolyn Evertson and how he implements her research in the classroom:Wong says "Now, why do I assign seats? Now, you may know the name Carolyn Evertson. She is arguably the leading authority on classroom management. She did her work at the Univ. of Texas, Austin campus, many years ago. They wrote a book called Classroom Management for Elementary Teachers and a book called Classroom Management for High School and Junior High School Teachers. They went out and they looked at thousands and thousands of very effective teachers, and they went out and they looked at thousands and thousands of very ineffective teachers, and this is what they discovered. They discovered that effective teachers assign seats on the first day of school..."He shows a graphic of the covers of the two books. This is one of the books he refers to.Harry Wong is the author of the book The First Days of School.Anyone who liked The First Days of School, therefore, might be interested to read this resource that Harry Wong found to be useful.

3-0 out of 5 stars Of Limited Use to Defense Industry
While this book contains a great deal of useful information on team dynamics and tools, it does not cover the Integrated Process and Product Development (IPPD) framwork which is the basis of co-located Integrated Product Teams (IPTs).Due to this omission, its applicability to the defense industry is very limited.

5-0 out of 5 stars Dog-earred, highlighted, and still going strong!
Like all good improvement tools, this guide for teams has evolved over the years. I began with the original, moved to Edition Two and now have Edition Three. Along with THE LEADER'S HANDBOOK, the TEAM HANDBOOK is probably the most useful and used book I own. Whether you are leading a project team, facilitating your own workgroup, or just want to be a better team member yourself, THIS is the tool you need. Every chapter is jammed pack with helpful tips, traps to avoid, notes and templates to help you be successful. Invest in this book, invest in YOURSELF!

Most of the chapters are well written and understandable.I have found some discrepancies in the information, and feel that the book could have been edited a little better. The book explains sanitation but does not go into the correct method of sanitizing all items that one would use during a service. The material is quite dry, and could really use something to get the student excited about the occupation that they have chosen. ... 1-0 out of 5 stars I'd rather be nice.
I would much rather be considered nice and earn my way through this world the way I am.Being myself in the business arena has worked well for me thus far, and I don't care if the trend is to deviate from feminity.I think we should respect everyone, and not propegate the evolution of a sexless society. All in all, I would much rather be a nice person and have people like me than be a b%tch with a nice office.People remember you by how you made them feel, not by how much money or power you had.

5-0 out of 5 stars Ever wonder how you appear to others?
This book was amazing! It really made me see how I appeared to others. Some thing that I have been doing that I thought helped me has most likely been why I haven't been more successful. What an eye opener!

4-0 out of 5 stars Innovative & brilliant; yet...
In modern times perhaps no one has clarified the distinction between leadership (an influence relationship) and management (an authority relationship) better than the seminal work of the University of San Diego's Joseph C. Rost. With both fresh perspective and renewed vigor, though, Daniel Goleman and his colleagues have once again put a "face" on leadership... as if it actually has something to do with human relations!
4-0 out of 5 stars Extra Credit - Class Group Book Review
Best selling author Daniel Goleman, who popularized a theory of emotional intelligence (EI) via his 1995 bestseller Emotional Intelligence: Why It Can Matter More Than IQ, has teamed up with colleague EI researchers, Richard Boyatzis and Annie McKee to advance a new leadership concept - Primal Leadership. The authors focus on the four EI domains (self awareness, self management, social awareness, and relationship management), and link them to leadership success that affected several organizations' bottom lines positively by bringing out the best in people, a concept called "resonance".It is revealed that EI domains or competencies create leadership styles that reinforce resonance as well as those that create dissonance.Drawing from a decade of the authors' collective research and the real life experience of leaders in the trenches, a connection is made where leadership demands more than conventionally recognized intelligence, but emotional intelligence as well. The key to this is to use emotion to balance the reality of work and organization demands without unduly upsetting people to impact staff results. In a twist, the authors find that the encouragement to use EI originates internally.Furthermore, they offer a learning plan as a mechanism to sustain transformation rather than a performance outcome model. In the end, the book correlates its concepts to the organization as a whole to create the desired outcome of an organization with resonance that favorably influences the bottom line of the organization. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Intuitive, clear and concise
James Johnson's Introduction to Fluid Power is the kind of book students want. There is a lot to like about this book: First off, the language used is not the "expert talking down to you" tone that many college texts seem to enjoy (and students hate). Each concept is presented in plain, logical, and easy to understand terms. There is no abundance of 10-cent words and aloof language for the sake of sounding superior. That isn't to say the topic is "dumbed-down" at all, it is just easy to read and written in a plain-speaking manner that makes the reader feel like he's listening to a lecture by a competent, knowledgeable, down-to-earth, and enthusiastic speaker. James obviously knows his subject intimately, understands is fully, and knows where students may have confusion or misunderstanding and he works hard to make it clear as to what is right and what is wrong. It is rare to find an instructional text where the author remembers what it is like to be new to the topic, outside of the "For Dummies" series and similarly styled books. This book possesses that level of intuitive simplicity. This is the clearest and easiest to read and understand college text that I have ever used.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars One of the Best Chopra Books! The Core of it all.
Exceptional and brief book that hits the nail on the head with the main ideas and practices that can transform your life and help you to achieve what you want. I believe that Chopra initially did not like the word success for this book because it often registers for people as more materialistic than he means. This is a about life success in a grand and overarching way. Outstanding and HIGHLY Recommended!

Working agents and longtime educators know how valuable this book is for new agents because of its honest, straightforward look at what they need to know to succeed. You will, too.
1-0 out of 5 stars I wish someone told me NOT to buy this book!
I have probably read a dozen or more books on being successful in sales and most have been a waste of time. These people that write these books and hold seminars rarely give you any worthwhile information.Remember, the way they actually GET successful is by selling everyone else their books and tapes on HOW to be successful.I have yet to find anyone who is truly successful at their business and has passed their secrets on to anyone else. Why would they? Then you would be their competition.

5-0 out of 5 stars Everyone could use an "atta boy"
This was the third Blanchard book that I have read and so far it is my favorite. The fact that I was staying in Orlando right next to Sea World when I started reading it was a total coincidence, but it made some of the elements of the story really come alive for me. The ideas expressed here can apply to anyone or everyone, not just a manager of some business firm.Although, I have to admit that like many of Blanchard's books it was a little predictable and felt a little pollyannaish.

I just read a few of the reviews for this book, Raving Fans that were less than satisfactory.I must say to those who thought after reading this book that it was pointless, simplistic to the point of insulting, disappointing, or over the top, that it's just that exact mentality the whole book is based on.I really hate to color one gender in this fashion but it unfortunately is true, usually it's a man who can't possibly see that the solutions to most customer service problems are just that simplistic. It may seem corny, over the top, or maybe simplistic but this book clearly addresses the problem with customer service today, in that no one cares or is brave enough to venture returning to true customer oriented values, or brave enough to be different. It's all about squeezing that dollar for more than what it's worth, instead of investing that dollar to develop long term loyal customers.Customers that will go out of their way to do business with a provider if the provider cares enough about them to listen to them and give above what they are expecting.I know what I am talking about, I am a customer, and at best I only occasionally see a flicker ofbarely satisfactory customer service actions with the business's I donate my dollars to, but for the most part my customer service experiences are definitely a "No-Customer-Service kinda Customer Service World". Not only am I a customer but I am a customer service provider as well.I have always performed my job with the Raving Fan mentality; I just didn't know what it was called. It's good to know that my work reputation is directly related to providing "Raving Fan" type Customer service. It's too bad that the majority of business's out there are managed by the mentality, that it's all about the dollar and the customer is privileged to have me as a provider.

4-0 out of 5 stars To all the nay sayers.....
See ya, would hate to be your cio/ceo.It's just that simple.change is good, if you don't, bye.i extrapalated the simple concepts to help build the best suite of teams' of employees.Something like i have a vision for my team of managers, and part of that vision is what they need from me, they in turn need to develop their own vision of their team which includes what their team members need from them.By building that type of relationship/team, we can really provide an exceptional product.
4-0 out of 5 stars raving fan
Raving fans is an excellent book for those that are trying to improve their businesses customer service and how the customer is viewed.Although at times it may seem over the top, from a cost analysis basis, even if a business cannot afford the costly improvements, focusing on low to little cost improvements can radically improve your business alone. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars This Works!
This book should be read by everyone on the planet - it is the tool to assist in bringing about the "mind-shift" for our next leap in evolution.
3-0 out of 5 stars Routine
This book really doesn't add a lot to the literature available regarding success and creative thought, etc. It's not a bad read, just nothing really new.The author seems to be a good guy though, and is enthusiastic about his subject.

4-0 out of 5 stars Worth reading
Joe got it across to me in one sentence: "I believe our planet is what was described in an original Star Trek episode called "Shore Leave."..."they [Kirk, Spock et al] are on a planet that reads their thoughts and creates what they think about." Now, if you're not familiar with the concept that your internal world creates your external world, that's an 'out there' idea... Yes, parts of the book are redundant... and I'm not into all the spiritual stuff... but that's okay, because the concepts are simple and simply explained. Not to mention uplifting and inspiring. I love it. I've read it twice in a year now, and enjoyed it both times. Thanks Joe! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Most Helpful Book on Graphic Design!
This book is loaded with valuable (clearly stated) information and outstanding illustrations to demonstrate successful creative thinking and targeted solutions.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very cool addition to my personal library
I read the 3rd edition of this book and found it to be incredibly helpful in explaining the different applications, how to create them and what their purposes are in the vis com field. Without this book, my understanding would not have been as keen. What I especially like is that so many of the designers included in this book are also the ones who win awards in the design competitions- very cool addition to my personal library.

5-0 out of 5 stars Thorough and engaging
This book is used as a course text in many design classes across the country. I can see why. Not so much a history as it is a survey of the current state of graphic design, it's quite possibly the best treatment I've ever read on the subject in a single volume. The 3rd edition is significantly expanded in content and reformatted versus the 2nd, and the illustrative examples are abundant and well-chosen. Many of the examples are accompanied by remarks from the designers themselves, which helps shed light on the concepts and thought processes behind the work. The text strikes a good balance between commentary and pedagogy, and as a result the book works for both instructional reference and casual reading. The end of each chapter contains related exercises designed to prod your right brain into action. This book will help you discover -- or rediscover -- what's fun and exciting about graphic design. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Another Winner by Brian Tracy!
Brian Tracy continues to amaze me! In this new book, Brian Tracy encompasses 2000 years of wisdom and makes it available in only 110 pages! Simple, brief and to the point. Power packed.
3-0 out of 5 stars Commonsense advice. Mighty thin volume.
Brian Tracy has produced another great headline (Eat that Frog!) on which to hang 21 simple, straightforward pieces of advice, but as with his other books this motivational speaker has produced a very thin volume - just 117 pages. Brevity can be a good thing, sure, but at some point you wonder: "where's the beef?" I found myself nodding in agreement at the advice - there's nothing wrong with any of it - but next day I found it hard to remember much of what it said: a case of easy in/easy out. Tracy may be an excellent speaker, but as a writer he doesn't engage the brain sufficiently. There was nothing really new, provocative or profound here. ... Read more
