5-0 out of 5 stars Our Most Important Subject
This is an excellent book for learning or renewing our knowledge of English Grammar. There is a conspiracy in this country to dumb down the attendees of public schools, and it began in the early part of the last century with some wealthy industrialists and government officials.Leaving Children behind began before Bush and he is a prime example of it. Let's all fight back by speaking English properly, as well as reading and writing excellently. This book is a good place to start! Then, on to Phonics!

5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome! Thank you!
As an English teacher this is a good one. I wanted to order 100 of them for the students at Santa Fe South (10th grade) in Oklahoma City, just to let them have something to remember me by. It's a great tool to use to plan fun lessons, but it is also just a good little reference book when you need it. I need it, I use it. It works.

5-0 out of 5 stars FANTASTIC!
A good grammer book is hard to find. Here you go.The author covers grammer basics, usage, and style using examples that hit home every time.No matter what your question is, chances are you will find the answer here. The book is easy to read, clear, funny, and immensely informative. The only problem is, after you read it, you'll have no excuse for faulty writing. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Persuasive advice for lawyers
In Legally Speaking, Mr. Dempsey has created an invaluable guide for lawyers, and I suspect non-lawyers, who need to make presentations to small or large groups. His observations about the art of persuasion are both amusing and insightful. As Dempsey makes clear, talking is not the same as presenting. His focus on "making your case" gets right to the heart of what lawyers do for their clients.Dempsey really wants you to win your audience over and tells you quite clearly how to achieve that goal.Dempsey's comprehensive approach (40 principles!), covers every aspect of lawyers' presentation skills, but still leaves you with one unanswered question: "Can you do a book for non-lawyers?"

5-0 out of 5 stars A Must Have Book!
Where was this book when I was in law school? This is an exceptional overview of not only the tools but also the techniques attorneys so desperately need to communicate clearly. Dempsey not only tells you what you need to know to communicate concisely and with clarity (something far too few attorneys do) but he gives you practical advice you can immediately implement to enhance your speaking skills, regardless of the amount of speaking you do, or where you do it. The writing is engaging, entertaining and highly informative. There are hundreds of ideas and examples for every attorney. This should be required reading in for every law student and lawyer regardless of how often they speak-we need to do a better job and this book shows us how. This is the essential guide, written by an attorney for attorneys. Buy it now!

5-0 out of 5 stars This book actually deserves 10 stars!
Legally Speaking is a book that is almost too good to be true. Its information for masterful presentations provides breadth, depth, and enormous practical application. What's more, it is easy to read. The book is an excellent resource for anyone who needs to be a more effective communicator. David Dempsey has done an excellent job of laying out his outline in the contents. It is very easy to quickly turn to the information that is most needed in a given moment. Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Decent system, but poorly presented, overpriced
The Good:
3-0 out of 5 stars Nice system, acceptable book
The system itself seems to be a good one, and EasyScript Express an acceptably effective way to learn it.5-0 out of 5 stars It's been a blessing
I had a need for a "fast-to-paper" method of verbal communications. I have been using Easy Script for several months now, after having received and read your "EasyScript Express" book and applied the lessons and practice sessions therein. I started putting the concepts to good use immediately, and have found EasyScript to be a benefit to my work.Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Stand On Your Head
In a Monty Python parody of a children's TV show the host explains that, "To play a flute, you blow in one end and run your fingers down the side."In essence, that actually is exactly how to play the flute."Think On Your Feet" by Ken Wydro suffers a bit from this same tendency to oversimplify the complex and hope nobody notices.
5-0 out of 5 stars Amazing Book!
Ken Wydro's "Think On Your Feet" will not only transform your speaking and conversation skills, but it will transform the way you think. Many public speaking help books will fill your mind with mechanical tips that everyone, I assume, should already be aware of...i.e., "put inflection into your voice to emphasize your point..." Duh!5-0 out of 5 stars A great find!
I first read this book years ago when I began speaking at a Toastmasters group. At first, it helped me with my impromptu speaking.Later, it helped me to begin making small improvements in my daily actions (the slight edge technique).I was very disappointed it was out of print at the time and I couldn't buy a copy for my own library.Recently, a fellow Toastmaster member found it...and bought a copy for me.I was so grateful -- this is a book to read again and again.Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Cassette version used
Some value for everyone.Half of the information is only appropriate for a professional speaker. I will not listen a second time.

1-0 out of 5 stars Wow...bad
Or at least not what I was looking for...but based on all the other reviews here, I thought it was. This book has a very limited audience in mind, namely those who are giving "speeches", not just regular, everyday presentations and meetings. The name of the book is deceiving, and so are the reviews. The first chapter is the only one that is moderately worthwhile if you're actually looking for tips on becoming more confident.Otherwise, it is simply a laundry list of ways to give big speeches; not helpful at all to the average joe who works in corporate america and just wants to feel more confident.I realize this is difficult to teach in a book, but the other reviewers gave the impression that I might garner some tidbits on this.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Book!
I facilitate new hire orientations at my job regularly and this book was excellent and very informative. I bought the book because I wanted to be learn all that I could about public speaking since part of my new job responsibilities required me to stand up before an audience. 4-0 out of 5 stars The Art of Talking to Anyone
The author provides savvy, helpful ideas on improving communication in all situations. Very good.

2-0 out of 5 stars Not at all what I was hoping for
I put this audiobook in my Wish List several weeks before it came out. What I was hoping for was some good info on the psychology and execution of the lost art of conversation. What I got was an endless list of do's and do nots.I ONLY recommend this for EXTREME introverts. If you are looking to polish your social skills or socialize with anyone other than friends then keep looking.

2-0 out of 5 stars How to be a boring individual
The first 1 or 2 chapters of this book do indeed give you some good pointers on how to build rapport and to look for common threads, all very important parts of a conversation. However the latter chapters really get dull and tend to advice the reader to shy away from responding openly to real life situations such as when a friend approaches you with a problem, the author advices that you shy away from really putting yourself in their shoes and offering help, rather it gives you advice on how to decline offering help to someone in need.It also advices the reader not to tell jokes in any situation or to shy away from tellign detailed stories. Whilst for a social lepper this maybe sound advice most of us want to live in a world full of excitement and have conversations that are fullfilling for everyone, not just being a bore and trying to "fit in".Perhaps as an Brit this book is very American centric, but I'm sure even Americans are not even so boring! ... 2-0 out of 5 stars ..
I took the stat class using this book as a business major. Although this book had good problem sets using SAS and all, this book was very hard to understand. The examples and the way they explained it didnt help me to understand the material. If it wasn't my professor's lectures, I dont think my whole class could have handled the material. Also, as my Stat TA has told us, this book is not fit for many business students because it is so much in detail that it should be only used to Stat students. I know that there are other stat books that would fit business majors but I dont think this book is the one.

5-0 out of 5 stars Not the wrong title
I would like to point out that these authors have two books with similar titles. One is Applied Linear Regression Models which is in the 4th edition. The other is Applied Linear Statistical Models which is in the 5th edition. The statistical models book covers more than linear regression.
2-0 out of 5 stars AMAZON'S page has the WRONG TITLE!
The fourth edition of this book has a slightly different title than the fifth edition. Amazon has not made this distinction clearly on the title section of this page. Just look at the title at the top of this page and then compare it with the photo of the book's cover.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very nice
The book is very informative. It has cheatsheets printed on the back cover. There is also information to help you with your first speech because the author realized that speeches would be prepared before the student could finish reading the book.

1-0 out of 5 stars Disappointing
I'd considered buying this book from Amazon, and decided to first examine a copy at the Boston Public Library. I was unimpressed. The tone seems aimed at middle-school students, and the text is littered with patronizing "Dick & Jane" anecdotes. A quick glance through the table of contents suggests that Grice and Skinner address nearly every conceivable aspect of public speaking -- but a closer examination reveals a complete lack of depth. It seems as if they simply brainstormed ways to add pages without actually investigating their subject.

4-0 out of 5 stars The Basics: Presented Well
Better know today as a conservative columnist for the Wall Street Journal, Peggy Noonan also has a very strong pedigree as a political speech-writer for George H. Bush and Ronald Reagan.
1-0 out of 5 stars Good Grief!
I love reading Peggy Noonan's WSJ column; so let's get that out of the way right now. Peggy generally writes in a stream-of-consciousness form that I like. It captures my attention from the first sentence and holds me to the end. But not this book. After a page or two I noticed I was skipping ahead, looking for the bait and the hook. It's not there. That's Writing 101. She knows that! What I suspect is this: Her publisher contracted with her for a give-back linked to something else, and she wasnt interested in the project. It shows!

3-0 out of 5 stars NO book is as good as this one pretends to be.
I'm one of those guys that only sings in the shower or his car, so this was my first foray into singing for real. The thought of removing vocal defects and bringing forth my "true" voice was simply awe-inspiring, and for several months I was serious about practicing the material every day.
2-0 out of 5 stars Good, but not enough.
It does give you some hints, but it isn't that technical. It's more an "imitate me" book than a "understand it" book. To me it wasn't very illustrative...
5-0 out of 5 stars If I could only recommend one book on vocals...
Roger Love is an elite vocal coach who has worked with many established vocalist such as: Rob Thomas, Eminem and Joe Elliot (Def Leppard) to name just a few... He was trained by "vocal coach to the stars" Seth Riggs and his technique has its roots in Riggs "Speech Level Singing", although Love has earned his own reputation for his unique techniques. Love's techniques have been proven and while Seth Riggs also provides a book and CD bundle on vocal instruction I recommend Roger Love's book first.
