4-0 out of 5 stars a pretty good buy
The games in this book require few props, which is one reason i like it. However there are many numerical and verbal exercises which might not be suitable for all groups. The games are well classified and easy to find in the book. The ones on creative thinking, learning and communication are particularly good. I work with students and have used many of the games with success. This book can be used for any type of audience, overall it is a pretty good buy. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Depends where you're coming from
As a complete novice to accounting concepts I bought this book because I wanted to understand what type of information I need to track as a freelance professional services provider. I read all of Part 1 (several chapters) and can't say I know more than I did when I started. If you want to understand the difference between cash & accrual methods, the reason for single or double entry, the purpose of income statements, or how bookkeeping can help you as a management tool, look around at some other books before buying this sight unseen.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great on so many levels
I have many books on presenting and though they come and go on my desk this book stays there all the time. Why?5-0 out of 5 stars What you see is what you get (and need)
Nice book with some good advice on staying out of trouble on the playform and lots of down-to-earth tips on what to do and say when the going gets rough. Nine out of ten situations described are possible real life scenarios and the suggestions almost always make good sense. Which is really important for a book like this. Best read just before you're going out to a "hard talk" with a live audiance and need to make sure that you win the day. Its even funny. Recommended.

5-0 out of 5 stars Everything you should and shouldn't say!
This great book is wonderfully organized, and very comprehensive to boot! The humourous stories help drive the points home, and the "lines" to say are generally easy to remember.Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Thoughtful, complex analysis of communication behaviors
Although a very useful textbook for analyzing complex communication behaviors, this book is somewhat dense. It is rich with theory and detailed analyses, but it will not teach you how to relate better to your patients.Great book for a course, not so great if you are using it on your own.

4-0 out of 5 stars Speechmaking Tool
If you have never delivered a speech before, or you are a seasoned veteran, this book can help you no matter what speech level you are at. It is a helpful college textbook both for student and professor. The benefits for the student include writing that is logical and easy to follow, techniques that make sense, and the book is not 3 inches thick like most college textbooks!! For professors, there are sheets to be written on for easy grading of the student's speeches, and lots of information to test on that the student should know to be a successful speechmaker. All around the book is a great as far as a textbook goes.I would recommend this book for a college class, and even for someone who just wants to learn how to make speeches or pick up a few pointers. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars The new eloquence of political oratory in a televized world
Over a hundred years ago William Jennings Bryan delivered his famous "Cross of Gold" speech at the Democratic National Convention in a voice that was heard throughout the hall without any electronic amplification. But now we live in an age of microphones and Teleprompters, and as Kathleen Hall Jamieson points out in "Eloquence in an Electronic Age," political speaking in the United States has been radically transformed. Now presidents are remembered not for great speeches but rather for memorable sound bites. In fact, John F. Kennedy's inaugural address has now effectively been transformed into a single line ("Ask not...").5-0 out of 5 stars Highly Readable History of Speaking
More than a decade after its publication, this book remains a excellent read on how the rise of first radio, then television, as preferred channels of political speech-making went hand-in-hand with changes in speaking style. Unlike many discussions of the impact of television, Dr. Jamieson's approach is far less interested in condemning the rise of the visual than in exploring what kinds of strategies work with television. It's a pity there isn't a later edition that brings the history of political speaking into the internet age. ... Read more

Very informative and well written. This book definately had some good tips and advice on how to improve your public speaking. I highly recommend it.

4-0 out of 5 stars Very good to lay a strong foundation....
I do a fair amount of public speaking and have found this book very helpful in many respects. It does an excellent job of covering the basics, includes some great tips that you might not think of on your own and also introduces some advanced topics without overwhelming you with lots of detail.
5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Book for Dummies and Non-Dummies Alike
While I am not a huge fan of buying a book advertised as being for "dummies," I find the "...for Dummies" series to be very helpful for those of us unfamiliar with a certain topic. Needless to say, I am very unfamiliar with public speaking, unless you count the class I had in high school ten years ago, which I barely remember.

This book helped me increase my typing speed believe it or not! When the EasyScript system is used to help build your expansion list in a word-expander software program, it is invaluable.I had thousands ofabbreviations in my expansion list, but had a difficult time rememberingthem. Thanks to this book, I now have a system for creating expansions andremember more of them. This book should really be marketed towardstranscriptionists.

The Easy Script course changed the way I take shorthand forever. I had gotten the Easy Script I course in the mail. I had read the manual and used the auto tutor tape. What I like about the Easy Script method is that ithas 5 basic rules that reinforce basic English. I concur with the ad insaying that it is easier to remember 5 basic rules to retain what is taughtthan to memorize 20 or 30 rules and not learn anything.Read more

This book is a must read for serious professional speakers. Larry's tips and expertise have elevated me from a $3500 speaker and trainer to a $10,000 keynoter IN LESS THAN ONE YEAR! His information is realistic, well tested and it works.I am living proof.Knowing that Larry is an International Star, has his own TV show, has written best sellers and receives a $30,000 keynote is validation for his steps for success for speakers.I will continue to take every word he says very seriously-- because they work! 5-0 out of 5 stars A great vocabulary builder!
Nurnberg and Rosenblum did a fine job putting together this book of vocabulary words. The different chapters focus on various themes or groups of words, including some from mythology. Some rather obscure and challenging terms are included, and I particularly liked that aspect of this publication. If you're looking for an entertaining vocabulary building book that includes more words than other competing items, then this is the ideal vade mecum for you.

5-0 out of 5 stars A solid book for serious study
I got this book while preparing to take the GRE. Their choice of words and their explanations are very good. I strongly recommend this book to anyone who does not just want to cramme the words for an exam. If you love english, you will love this book.

1-0 out of 5 stars just Don't buy this book!
I bought 3 vocabulary books for study during summer. Among those 3, this book has the worst quality. the words in this book are too old (1950s) Maybe my grand father found this book was useful in that days. But notnow!. And the examples and explanations are so weak that these words don'tmake any chunk as they insist! Moreover, this book has unreasonable higherprice than other vocablary books. the paper is so low quality . And theletters are too small to percieve. You might regret if you buy this lowquality book. I recommend to buy "1100 words you need to know".That was really helpful. ... Read more
