Good, in some ways
It was a little hard getting through all 6 tapes.She is judgemental of other natural practices, such as meditation, when not conducted in the way she describes.Despite this, thet concepts she brings on emotions are interesting and detailed.She brings a perspective I had not considered and I did take away some valuable information.

Entertaining and didactic!
This instructional tape is entertaining and very instructive.The vocabulary words are used in short stories in which two actors are constantly explaining the meaning of words and using synonyms without losing fluidity of the story.Then the words are reviewed giving the listener a chance to recall the words after hearing them each in a sentence.Improves vocabulary and is very funny.I recommend this audio 99.99%.

Learn to let go.
I have been recommending this book to my astrology clients and people who take my Creative Living class for years.It helps its readersto focus on how to change difficult patterns relational patterns--which we all know is not easy.Readers feel the kindness and compassion of the author as well as her expertise throughout the book.
A must for everyone!!!
This audio book was a great source of information, not only for helping me figure out my past anger issues, but how to deal with future issues.The examples in the book were real life and I could place myself in those situations.I have listened to it more than once, and I still keeping finding ways to avoid anger and work on the real issues with my kids, parents, co-workers and spouse.Again, a must for everyone...it may sound strange,but would make a great wedding present!

You'll Never Be at a Loss for Words Again!
Out of seven word power cassettes I bought, this audio book is the best. It starts off elementary level and quickly goes to collegiate level. I was astounded by the way the book is organized. The material is presented in such a way you WILL learn it. Since the words you use say a lot about who you are and where you're headed, I fully recommend this book! elementary, boring, unorganized, not worth buying
Of all the vocabulary building audio cassettes that I bought, Kaplan WordPower is absolutely the worst. It not only is unorganized, but it alsoassumes that you have a junior high level education. The first 15 minute ofthis 60 minute cassette is wasted on a boring outline of the rest of thecassette material. I couldn't believe that I actually listened to theentire tape filled with crap such as "Do you know what prefix andsuffix are?" "Do you know good methods to memorizing newwords?" "Do you know that many words have multiplemeanings?" After 5 minutes listening to the tape, you will alsorealized that this cassette is 100% trash.Read more

Brilliant, Stupid, Beautiful, Ugly, Moving and Disgusting.
This is quite a book by an obviously gifted author. It is not, in my opinion, as great as the vast majority of the people who have contributed reviews here seem to think.This is the story of a town, a people, and afamily that I hope is NOT representative of the South American experience.The story is difficult to maintain a grip on because of the confusioncaused by giving the same name to multiple characters. There are over 20characters with the name Aureliano.I found depressing the way the storyseems to continually turn back on itself, the way the characters keeprepeating not only their own mistakes, but the mistakes of theirforebearers as well. Everybody and everything ultimately lived ameaningless, pointless, depraved, and stupid life. There was no one and nothing to love in this book. Everyone and everything was poisoned from thestart. Even the parts that many seem to have found humor in were usuallyrooted in tragedy or were the consequence of one characters cruelty toanother.Read more

Tea for Four
Listening to this tape is like sitting across the table having tea with these three wise and wonderful women. They bring their insights into life from different cultures, and yet show how much we all share. You will absolutely love this tape. Listening to any one of these women is a fabulous experience, and here that is compounded.

Lily Bart Never Understood The Rules Of The Game
The world that Edith Wharton felt comfortable with was the one that was located in the fashionably expensive upper east side of New York City of the mid 1870s. There were plenty of newly rich businessmen who had made fortunes after the Civil War, and the attitudes of "hit `em hard" that made money then worked pretty well later too. Such attitudes were often grounded in a smugness that said, "I got mine, and you didn't." In THE HOUSE OF MIRTH, Wharton examines several figures whose lives intersect at a junction that separates those who have money from those who don't.The losers in such a confrontation are not only the ones who wind up broke--they are simply the most obvious--but the so called winners are also losers in that Wharton shows them as losing their humanity even if they maintain their fortunes.

WAY TOO SCARY VOCABULARY
SAT Vocabulary study on audio CD's! We can listen in the car! What a find! The packaging for "Not Too Scary Vocabulary (for the New SAT & Other Standardized Tests And Success in Life)" proclaims, "Outrageously Wild and Funny with Wacky Songs and Poems!" Also on the packaging, "Award Winning" - "Hilarious, Brilliant and Super Effective" - "The Way to Laugh your Way to Verbal Victory on SAT Day". Sounds great for those of us with children preparing for the PSAT/SAT tests who spend a lot of time in our cars! Also included is a positive review from "a mother of four ages 8-18" that includes "The whole family is laughing and learning". I happily plopped down the purchase price and popped the first CD in the car stereo. Imagine my chagrin when Creator/Performer Renee Mazer taught the very first word (abashed) with a poem that included "...would you be abashed, if your private parts got flashed, when your fly was unzipped, while your underwear was ripped?..." Well, my fifteen year old son was a little embarrassed, and I thought the poem was a little more tasteless than hilarious - but we continued on. On the third word (acrimonious) we were treated to the following: "...Their divorce was acrimonious so she took nude pictures of her flabby ex-husband and emailed them to everyone at his office. That would be a fun thing to do if you were going through an acrimonious divorce". Well, the alarm bells begin to sound but surely it couldn't get worse! Before leaving the A's we suffered through "artful" which Ms. Mazer teaches with a true story and poem about offering to date her college T.A. in exchange for an A, and "augment" which is taught with the concept of breast augmentation and a poem about a fictitious daughter posing nude for a magazine. We actually continued to listen until I discovered that she intended to use the word "condom" to teach "condone". That was the end of the road for my son! I emailed Renee Mazer with my concerns as she requests in a companion booklet in which she asks for "any comments about these CD's". Her response was that she feels the words outrageously wild on the packaging "state up front what the content was going to be like". She also states that "the product has gotten editor's choice awards from parenting/kids magazines, a review from a major media outlet calling it `g rated,' and countless fan mail from parents of young kids. It is also being used in public middle and high schools. Nothing in it is more risqué than what is on prime time TV, the radio and the covers of magazines that you see while checking out of a grocery store." No mother whom I know personally would want her teens to listen to this trash! In order to be fair to Ms. Mazer, I decided to listen to the entire 7 CD set (alone) and found it far more offensive than I had imagined! This product should come with a parental caution label, or, at the minimum, the words irreverent, racy or risqué on the packaging. Ms. Mazer uses those words to describe her product on her website and I would not have purchased it if I had found any of them on the box!
Annoying but effective
I'm an SAT tutor and if you can stand to listen to Ms. Mazer's annoying voice and stories of her dating days, you will learn new words and her approach is effective.For some teenagers, Ms. Mazer is too much to listen to--my son refuses.However, I've listened to all her CD's and I've learned and remembered new words.I would suggest your borrow one CD from a friend and try it first before you buy it.Ms. Mazer's approach is more effective than Princeton Reviews Word Smart and Word Smart II if you can tolerate her.If you are a very conservative parent you probably won't like her stories but she doesn't say anything kids don't already hear in a public high school.

listening practices
This is a pretty good book, I would say (although, I can't compare it with other ones). The book has 4 sections for each of the testsections. Each section has tiny steps and explains everything. After each step you take a small test to see if you understood everything. I got bored with all the explanations and examples, so I only did the tests and reviewed the sections, where I had problems.
quite good BUT
Listening section does not contain Audio CD, why are not these excersises on the CDROM?! The attached CDROM has less than 300MB and typical cdrom can contain more than 600MB!!!
It definately help!!
I've went through this book and worked on all the practice test on the disk, it really helped me to understand the test format in real test condition and provided concentrated review material in different sections.The only drawback will be the tapes included are too clear, which is really different from the real test (it's a bit muffle in the real test)lucky I went through the free toefl practice test material available on the toefl website on the day I took the test and realise that.Anyway, I got 280 points with the help of the book..really satisfy with the result!It's worth to try. ... A confusing way to learn a language
This book is ok if you're a tourist wanting to learn some quick phrases or if you have a prior knowledge of the polish language, but if you actually want to learn and understand the language then this book is not for you. It starts off with a dialogue, but they don't tell you the meaning of any of the words. It tells you a phrase and has it's english equivalent, it may be used the same way but if you look up the words in a dictionary, not a single word is the same as in the english equivalent. I like to be told what it really means. Plus the layout of the book is confusing and takes some getting used to. Overall this book was not worth the money.

I've been learning Polish for almost two years, but most of the courses I've gone through have been keeping the vocabulary and grammar below the intermediate level and not going beyond that point.Of all the courses I've gotten so far, this is the absolute best.It keeps the language at a level of simplicity that almost everybody who uses it will be able to understand.If you have a sufficient knowledge of how Polish pronunciation works, you might be able to use just the book only.If you don't know the sounds of Polish or are unsure about certain sounds, I'd recommend getting the cassettes that accompany the textbook.(I already had some cassettes for Polish when I bought this course, and I also have a Polish friend who helps me with speaking the language, so I didn't buy the cassettes and can't tell you about their content.)The pronunciation, though at times difficult to enunciate clearly and often frustrating to those who aren't used to the frequent combinations of consonants, is mercifully straightforward and has few exceptions.Once you know how Polish pronunciation works, you can read Polish right off a page.The books details the common exceptions (very few words are read differently than they're spelt orthographically.One tense has a switch of stress, from the penultimate to the antepenultimate), and the grammar is explained clearly.It speaks from a "native-English" point of view so that all native speakers of English can relate the information through the idioms and logic they naturally use.Overall, this is the best book you can buy for learning how to both write and speak Polish.Speaking what you read or hear is the absolute best way to keep your knowledge fresh in your memory. Langenscheidt offers an awesome dictionary which can be used to further your Polish after completing the course.With this dictionary and the course, you should be able to converse with Poles is a short time. ... good way to get started on english lit
i'v used this book for direction in taking the clep in english lit and the gre in lit in english.obviously it isn't comprehensive, just skims, but covers the pertinent dates, figures, and works to get you going.i recommend the Masterplots series for in-depth essays on these topics -- much better than those cliff notes which bore me. ...
