5-0 out of 5 stars Great Textbook
This book was required for my Medical Terminology class, but I love it.It is an excellent teacher.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Textbook!Received an "A" in my class also!
I just took this course at a local college and I thought this textbook was excellent. The materials are well laid out and the book includes many photos and drawings of medical procedures. The book includes the following sections for each chapter: anatomy, combining forms, prefixes, suffixes, terms built from word parts, terms not built from word parts, procedures, diseases, acronymns, and many excellent practice sections in each chapter. If you follow the layout of the chapters and do the practice exercies then you will do well in this class.Medical terminology is very logical and practical.Good luck!

5-0 out of 5 stars THANKS FOR THE "A" MYRNA!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Before I bought "Exploring Medical Language"I knew absolutely nothing, and I mean nothing about Medical Terminology.Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars INteresting
I find the mozart effect an interesting concept and have purchased a few cds for my newborn.I love classical music, and I do find that when we listen to good music, we feel energized and uplifted.
2-0 out of 5 stars Fun Book to Read: HIDEOUS "Research" and BAD Science
While I've had the pleasure of hearing Don Campbell speak, his information is, sadly, quite flawed. As others have rightly noted, the "science" in this book is simply horrible and there are many with his comments concerning classical music. The fact that he also copyrighted the term "Mozart Effect" is also deplorable. Finally, this type of book is responsible for placing music and sound on the backburner at many research institutions as it falsely implies that the use of music and sound belongs to "new age" nonsense. As a rule, I cringe when I see that someone else has used this book as a reference to back up other poor research.

5-0 out of 5 stars Life Changing
This book has been life changing in healing my Mother's brain injuries after a trauma in an accident with a tractor trailer. Having read the book, I took his music for healing to her hospital ICU and instructed the nurses to keep the music on at all times. I literally watched her come out of a coma, first tapping her toes to the music, then her fingers, then humming. In the unsettling sounds of a hospital, this gave her calm and focused on the area of healing where she needed it most.Personally, anytime I want to be focused, I also use Don Campbell's music. It works! ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Fantastic
i am looking tomove out to South Afica and this book has helped me pick up the basics that i will require to get me started.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great book for an easy language
I've studied several languages and I can say that - as a native English speaker - Afrikaans is the EASIEST language to learn. This book is a great introduction to Afrikaans- the easiest language for a native English (and Dutch) speaker and also the easiest and most logical and analytical Germanic language. After mastering a working knowledge of Afrikaans with this book, I was able to converse with South Africans and Dutch speakers. Prior to this, I only learned/studied Latin-based languages (Spanish and Portuguese). Now, I can read/understand Afrikaans and Dutch (and more German than I thought I could). I got this book on a whim (curious about other Germanic languages as a native English speaker focusing on Iberian languages) and have now fallen in love with the other languages in my native West-Germanic language family.

4-0 out of 5 stars A good start.
Unlike most of the other titles in this series, Colloquial Afrikaans provides the new learner with a solid knowledge of the basic grammar, essential for a further study. The plural of nouns and the flexion of adjectives should be covered more thouroughly however, but this course with its lively dialogues and everyday vocabulary is one of the best one could choose to start that interesting language. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars My 7 year old learned all his states!!!
I purchased this cd through a book club and put it in our car to listen to on the way to school. In a very short time, my 7 year old learned all his states & is well on his way to learning his capitals. My 4 year old has amazed us all by picking up most of the states as well. The lyrics are set to tunes most kids would already know (such as "Yankee Doodle") so they don't have to spend time learning the music and can jump right into the lyrics (ie state names.) It's a terrific educational tool!!!

4-0 out of 5 stars Fun in Learning States and Capitals
This book is an excellent way for children to learn their stttes and capitals. It's fun way with music and rhythem is excellent. As a teacher, I use it in my classroom with third, fourth, and fifth graders and theyenjoy it and can tell you any state or capital.Geography is important ineducation and this is a great book to start your children off with forlearning. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars A Must Read
Colonel Archibald Gracie was on board the Titanic when it sank. He was one of the lucky men who was able to cling to a capsized boat for survival. He details his account of the crossing, both before and after the iceberg. He mentions many people that he spoke with on the voyage, hoping to bring comfort to any families whose loved ones he encountered. The book seems to have been a form of therapy for the man and also an attempt to help those with questions after the sinking.
5-0 out of 5 stars Vivid & Meticulous Firsthand Account of Disaster
Colonel Archibald Gracie is one of the few people who actually went down with the Titanic and lived to tell about it. First published in 1913, "Titanic" is his detailed account of the last day he spent aboard ship, the evacuation of passengers on the port side of the ship, and of his incredible survival on an overturned lifeboat after being plunged into the frigid ocean when the Titanic finally completely submerged. The first 113 pages of the book are dedicated to Colonel Gracie's firsthand account. In the remaining approximately 200 pages, Col. Gracie has compiled testimony from as many other eyewitnesses as he could find. These firsthand accounts of passengers and crew are taken from the official inquiries in the United States and Great Britain, personal correspondence and interviews with Col. Gracie, and occasionally from firsthand accounts that were published in books and magazines of the day. Taken together, they render a very detailed picture of what went on that fateful night and why more people were not saved. Colonel Gracie died 8 months after the Titanic sank, of illness possibly related to the prolonged exposure to cold that he endured the night the Titanic went down.5-0 out of 5 stars Still a very readable account of the Titanic disaster
Originally published in 1913 as The Truth About the Titanic, Titanic: A Survivor's Story was the first book by an actual Titanic survivor to appear in print. Colonel Archibald Gracie, a military historian who is treatedreally brutally by James Cameron in his film, was not only a brave man butan indefatigable historian of the disaster. In the months remaining to himafter the sinking (Colonel Gracie died in December 1912, possibly ofaftereffects from his harrowing escape), Gracie tracked down othersurvivors and was the first to make an attempt at putting each survivorinto the boat he or she escaped from. Written with period charm, this is animportant book about the disaster and will dispell any remaining images ofCameron's doofy "Archie." ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Extremely unhelpful
I bought this book, hoping to learn something new about communication skills, what I found was a list of common sense every day advises, which I'm sure everyone is familiar with, this book did not help me at all, it would probably help someone who came out of jungle, for this book is as basic as they come.

1-0 out of 5 stars No help
When I purchased this book, I was expecting to find new ways to improve my communications instantly. What I got from this book was a list of common sense items.Only about 10 % of this book helped.I expected more.

5-0 out of 5 stars Learn to "feel your prayers"
The lost art of prayer revealed and made accessible to today's believer.

2-0 out of 5 stars What about Isaiah?
Casual book browsers who stumble across Braden's book, "The Isaiah Effect," might undoubtedly be drawn to the implications of the title: that there exists some mystical, unifying code which is only now being fully understood through modern techniques, research, and understanding. I, as one such browser, had briefly read about the so-called "Bible Code" which computers have now enabled man to explore and thought that the subject of this book might be related. With my interest piqued at the title and the book description, I delved into the pages expecting to learn exactly what encompassed Isaiah's "precise instructions" of prayer. I wanted to know exactly what Braden claimed to have stumbled upon.
4-0 out of 5 stars Subtle yet eye opening.
There are two overarching messages of wisdom I get from this work by Gregg Braden.Firstly, the new age adage, "you create your reality" is more accurately expressed as "the blueprints for all possible realities are already in existence and it's our choices that determine the one reality that manifests."So we have endless choices of outcomes before us in terms of materialising the reality we want.We don't even have to imagine it - it already exists, we just have to "become" it, and then we're there.Gives a lot of support to the idea we are "waking dreaming" and what we collectively dream becomes more concrete until we "believe" it as an objective reality. And then we stand around arguing that our particular interpretation of that reality is the right one when in fact it's just changed again because someone else has made another choice.

Editorial Review

Davis consistently does what your junior high teacher probably didn't; he makes geography amusing and riveting. From early concepts of whether the world was a disk floating in water (Thales) or pear-shaped (Columbus), Davis explains earthquakes, rain forests, Atlantis and whether there are canaries on the Canary Islands. In short, he covers the scientific, physical, and political history of the Earth and does his level best to raise our collective geographic IQ while entertaining us. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Don't know much about Davis
The moment I saw this book in our local bookstore, I quickly grabbed it. The title is very eye-catching since I'm very interested about the sciences, and Geography is one fascinating subject. The book is written in simple terms and easy to understand. What I didn't like about the book is that it's explicitly very biased against the creation theory. On the earlier pages, the author clearly stated that science is dynamic which I or presumably anyone will understand that when it comes to the sciences nothing is certain. Yet the author appears to be preaching the THEORY of evolution as a fact. I thought books like this calls for unbiased and unpartial content. So I scanned the back pages looking for his credentials. And I found my evidence, "don't know much about Davis".

1-0 out of 5 stars Dry and boring
I thought this book might be interesting for my class (I'm a Geography High school teacher). Now, I've read many a dull tome on Geography in my many years. At least they were informative, mistake free and educational.Unfortunately, I cannot say say the same for this drivel. Not only is it dumbed down but, it is still dry and boring.I was drifting off while reading it (and I love geography - can't get enough of it!).There are mistakes a plenty. Not only the ones mentioned before, but I found 'facts' cotradicting themselves in the same chapter. In short; dry, boring, mistake ridden and dated.

3-0 out of 5 stars Mediocre
"Don't Know Much about Geography" was . . . mediocre.Arguably, a good refresher on the physical science you learned in 8th grade. The author surveys many of the basic concepts like "the ice age," geographical terms, and introduces a little "geo-sociology," explaining how geography influenced society.Towards the end of the book, the author reverses his path and begins a discussion of "socio-geography," explaining how man influences geography.A fun little book but not filled w/ much substance.

Very entertaing book.Anyone with a love for science and Star trk will enjoy this book. Highly recommended

3-0 out of 5 stars Not as good as the original
This book expands on the theme of the "Physics of Star Trek": namely drawing upon the science of today to ponder the validity and feasibility of the sci-fi science.Like its predecessor though somewhat to a lesser extent, this book suffers from a lack of vision by adhering to today's understanding of science (see my review for that book). The end result is still a readable and nice introduction to important questions in modern physics using science fiction as an example.4-0 out of 5 stars BEYOND BEAM ME UP SCOTTY........
Author Laurence Krauss is Chairman of the Department of Physics at Case Western Reserve. He is also the author of several other books including THE PHYSICS OF STAR TREK. This book explores such topics as alien invasions, time travel, quantum reality and more in movies like X-Files, Star Wars, Indepedence Days and in other aspects of popular culture and life today. 5-0 out of 5 stars I LOVED this book!
This book had me laughing out loud from start to finish. Jacobs is clever. And he seems completely honest and unafraid to write candidly about the sorts of thoughts and feelings that everyone has but few admit.Well okay, maybe not everyone; maybe just me and him. Anyway, I have trouble imagining any intelligent person not liking this book.

4-0 out of 5 stars A Proper and Well-Planned Wedding
This planner guide is beautiful. I love the binding since it is easy to browse topics without the book flipping closed. It covers various information and check lists that are useful to first-time brides (or mothers of the bride). I appreciate the simplicity and the inclusion of Post's infamous manners to help me plan a proper wedding. The big drawback is that the book is so crisp and worth saving as a memoir of the planning process and 'big day' that I am timid to write in it and make full use of its pages for fear I'll mess it up. Otherwise, it is a classic and simple gift for a newly engaged couple.

3-0 out of 5 stars Planner Does Not Meet Expectations
I am a huge fan of Emily Post's Wedding Etiquette book and it has helped me be a better bride, bridesmaid, and wedding guest. It is well organized and lays the proper etiquette for every possible scenario. It's wonderful.
4-0 out of 5 stars Great Planner
I was delighted with my planner when I received it. It's very well made, and it covers EVERYTHING. The great thing about this planner is if you are having a smaller, less formal wedding and reception (like my fiance and I) you can just skim past the info you don't need, and get straight to what you are looking for. This planner is ideal for any type of wedding, it even has alot of information about destination weddings and how to cut costs. I was unsure about the whole marriage liscense/changing my name thing, and Emily Post's Wedding Planner lays everything out for you. For the clueless bride to be, she covers everything from dresses to veils to flowers, and tells you about the different types and kinds. Overall it's a very handy tool, with charts and checklists and a nice pocket to hold papers. I found myself jotting things down as I went through it the very first time. I only have one complaint about the planner: it is not a standard paper sized book, therefore regular sized sheets of paper do not fit in the pocket. I found myself using a manila folder along with it to hold printouts of pictures I didn't want to fold. The pocket is ideal for invitation samples, swatches, and business cards though. Even with this drawback, the planner itself is worth the pocket sacrifice. If you want to do a wedding right, then this is the planner for you. ... Read more
