Intriguing
This, the first of the Jacqueline Kirby books, does a wonderful job introducing Ms. Kirby.Just as grown children leave home to start a new phase in their life, so does their middle-aged parents.Jacqueline does a fine job disregarding the past to open up a new and exciting phase in her life which includes helping a group of young graduate students solve a murder.Her intelligence and past experience leaves her prepared for every eventuality!A delightful romp!

The first in the Jacqueline Kirby series
The story centers on a group of graduate students studying art and history in Rome.Two of the group met middle aged librarian Jacqueline Kirby and introduce her to their group, the Seven Sinners.A hanger on of the group is found murdered, found by a member of the group and possibly also murdered by a member of the group.One of the group, Jean, begins to have a series of accidents that soon become more violent and appear less and less accidental.Jacqueline Kirby decides to investigate this matter and, of course, manages to uncover both murderer and motive. As good as Amelia?
I have been putting off reading the other two mystery series written by Elizabeth Peters as I enjoy the Amelia Peabody series so much that I thought I would be disappointed. And, surprisingly, I was not disappointed at all in this, the first of the Jacqueline Kirby mysteries, first published in 1972. Kirby is not an instanly likeable character but she grew on me as the book continued. The mystery is classic Peters in that it involves some rather arcane references which always end up tying into the mystery somehow. I was able to figure out how the main clue to the criminal works into the plot but was not able to figure out who that criminal was as Peters keeps a vital piece of information from the reader until the denouement. This is a quite enjoyable mystery, quicker to read than the Amelia Peabody mysteries, and I look forward to buying and reading the second in the series. ... Read more

Wow!! That is about summing it up!
Caroline Myss is an incredible revolutionary Mystic, with intellegence, practicality and a sense of humor. I bought this CD because I was suffering from Depression. It really is a Mind blowing CD. She really taps into a deeper, more meaninful part of ourselves. She answers some very interesting questions with incredible wisdom and insight. Why do some people heal, and not others? Is healing possible? Are some people "Hooked" on staying stuck in their disease? Why do some live and some die from their ailments? Why do people get sick in the first place?
Very Helpful Information
I listened to the book on tape of Caroline Myss' Personal Healing. This is the first time I have heard her speak. I was not familiar with her ideas at all before this.

A Great door to understanding
Years ago I first bought these tapes. Since then I have recommended them to many from beginning seeker to long time student. Pema Chodron teaches mind training in a warm and humorous way to help us learn to become compassionate toward ourselves and others.

This set of 6 cassette tapes simulates being at her Gompa in Nova Scotia with your eyes closed.She is a Western Tibetan Buddhist nun who studied with Trungpa Rinpoche.She's published several lovely books (e.g. "Places that Scare You" and "Start Where You Are") as well as videos (e.g. "Good Medicine") and tape sets (e.g. "Noble Heart").This particular item addresses her two main topics of the Lojong mind training and the practice of Tonglen (sending & receiving).The many techniques, meditations, explanations, etc. are VERY useful in daily life even if you don't do regular, daily, spiritual practices.Some Lojong items are: "Make friends with yourself," finding the soft spot within (sometimes hard to do!), resistence to capacitence, "how to do your best when you feel your worst," and "when you ask a question wholeheartedly, you begin to get the answer everywhere."Tonglen means taking in (mentally) other person's suffering and sending them your own happiness instead.Not easy at first, but she provides ways to ease into it and, best of all, a terrific "on-the-spot" method which is FAR easier to employ.This is simply a super set of tapes by a fantastic teacher.

finding yourself in your voice
I am since a long time working with Arthur Joseph's vocal technics. It is amazing what you can get out of your voice and how it effects your personality. I had each time a wonderful experience. It is a book for everybody and I can not wait for the next one!

Just like having your own personal voice coach at home!
I LOVED this tape series! Not easy, mind you, but what worth doing ever is?? It takes time to learn the techniques, and you have to make time to practise - but this stuff is POWERFUL!Not only do I see changes in my voice, but also in my self-esteem and other areas of life. I'm more confident. I HIGHLY recommend it! But I warn you - it's not for the super-lazy. It won't do it for you. YOU have to be willing to do the work.If you are, and are looking for a gifted vocal genius to teach you - then this is the tape series for you.I also recommend his Sing Your Heart Out tapes and his books. GREAT STUFF! Very REAL. And if you get the opportunity to attend a seminar of his - I HIIGHLY recommend that too.

Save your money
The description sounds promising, but I was very disappointed.The author leads you very slowly, with his coddling 'Mr. Rogers' voice that would sound unnatural in any setting except leading a meditation.There are a few great techniques, but it takes a lot of patience to endure the entire series, which I did. On the other hand, I DO recommend "The Sound of your voice", also sold at Amazon.OK, there are a few corny lapses, but there are *plenty* of real-world examples, lots of excercises, and the delivery is very dynamic.Check it out. ... More Fun Than A NPR Membership Drive
As someone who has relied heavily on NPR almost since its inception in 1970, I've logged many an hour on the banks of Lake Wobegon, smiling as Dusty and Lefty chewed on cowboy philosophy and thrilling at the adventures of Guy Noir, Private Eye.What I found most alluring about Prairie Home Companion was the format itself, homage to the great days of radio when audiences imagined pictures for themselves.This was a marvelously collaborative process whereby, as Stan Freiberg once observed, it really was possible to fill the Grand Canyon with Jell-O.
Narrow Slice of the Pie
I purchased this 25th anniversary collection with great anticipation and, have to say, I was surprised and disappointed to find that this compendium consists ONLY of Garrison's monologues with a few musical selections thrown in.This collection has none of the short skits, Guy Noir bits, or cast-inclusive pieces of brilliance that punctuate and vary the pacing of the live radio show.Don't get me wrong, Garrison's stories are wonderful in themselves and quite enjoyable, but I feel that a 25th anniversary collection should consist of more than just this one aspect of the show.If, like me, you want a more rounded Prarie Home experience, you'll need to buy some of the other Prarie Home CD releases to suppliment this purchase which, I think, is a shame.This collection should be clearly labelled as monologues & music, not as an overall collection of the show.

Kindred Spirit
This is my first Judy Orloff purchase, but I intend to purchase more. These CDs spoke to me because many of her experiences mirrored my own. The solutions she offers to dealing with problems I still face are helping me cope with my own personal issues. I highly recommend these CDs to anyone who feels adrift in today's society with no obvious place to turn for help.
