5-0 out of 5 stars You are here
In the Netherlands there are practically no books available on the subject of MindMapping, and this was recommended by an American friend, along with the other book that I ordered, Maps of the Imagination: The Writer as Cartographer.
5-0 out of 5 stars you can't get there from here
The editor of this book was a founder of Seattle's Bookfest, that City's annual celebration of books. The construction and design of this book is a product of the Dream Time of publishing -- nice touches like end-flaps that serve as book marks. I found the book quite handsome!
5-0 out of 5 stars A BEAUTY!
THIS IS AN ESSENTIAL INTRO TO THE AMAZING WORLD OF MAPS ,IT SEEMS THAT ANYTHING GOES HERE AND THE WORLD IS RICHER FOR IT.PHYSICALLY THIS BOOK IS A NICE LARGE SIZE WITH WONDERFULLY SMOOTH COVERS,THE TITLE IS RIGHT ON,ITS ALL PICTURES INSIDE WITH MINIMAL BUT SUCCINCT TEXT.WHILE SOME OF THE CAPTIONS ARE A BIT TOO MUCH ARTSPEAK, THIS IS A VISUAL BONANZA.FOR A DEEPER EXPLANATION OF MAPS THE BOOK "100 MAPS "IS A GREAT COMPANION . THIS ISA GREAT AND STIMULATINGEFFORT THAT NATURALLY EXPANDS HORIZONS. IMAGINE IT WOULD BE A GREAT SOURCE BOOK FOR ART TEACHERS TO GET STUDENTS JUICES FLOWING.EVERTHING IS HERE ,FROM THE

5-0 out of 5 stars Don't do Route 66 without it!
An invaluable tool for travelling Route 66 from beginning to end, as important as your vehicle. This book will keep you on track, informed, and make things "EZ" for you.I just used this book on a two-week trip (Sept 2006), and couldn't imagine doing it without this guide.(Although Illinois is very well signed and easy to follow on it's own.)
5-0 out of 5 stars Comprehensive and User-Friendly
This book has all that I want to undertake a 2-3 week drive along the entire length of Route 66. The maps are comprehensive without overburdening the traveller with too much detail. There are alternative routes suggested and the major roads are clearly indicated if you have to catch up time or move around an accident site or similar long-delay issue. There are restaurant reviews and accommodations suggestions. Must-see locales are clearly indicated and there are many common-sense points made as well. I like the book-size format rather than the large fold-out map. We are really lookinfg forward to doing Route 66 and expect that EZ66 will be the bible on the seat for our vacation.

5-0 out of 5 stars FINALLY A GREAT GUIDE
In many places Route 66 is not marked or easy to find, so if you're going to take a Route 66 trip, you'll want the best guide. The EZ66 Guide is it.I've seen most of the maps and guides for Route 66 and this is by far, the best!!It is easy to use going west or east, it has spiral binding which makes it easy to keep open to any page while you're driving along and it shows you some of the older stretches of the route too.We don't have young kids, but the games look fun... O.K. we played a few!!The author's wonderful artwork is an added plus!! ... Read more

Editorial Review

The publishing world is full of Tolkien spinoff products, some trivial and ephemeral--but some, like this thoroughly researched atlas, are genuinely classy. Karen Wynn Fonstad is a qualified geographer and cartographer who first mapped Middle-Earth in 1981 and has since added much new detail based on those endless volumes of drafts, abandoned passages, alternative versions, and laundry lists published since Tolkien's death. She fills in gaps and details in the familiar Third Age maps from Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars One of the best sources for information on LOTR
This atlas is well worth the money. The book covers all of the LOTR series. It first goes into the layout of Middle Earth with respects of what type of rock for each areas.Valinor is covered, as well as Beleriand. Then, the battles are covered from the Silmarillion, The Hobbit, and the LOTR. Many illustrations are in the book, including the Tower of Cirith Ingol, Ederas, and Minas Tirith. Then the author has painstakingly taken the pathways of the Nine Walkers, from Bag End to Mount Doom. This includes dates, times, miles traveled, campsites on the map, ect. The author then goes into landforms - how the continents in Middle Earth could have been formed, the languages used, and the climates of Middle Earth.
5-0 out of 5 stars Without a doubt the most useful resource for knowing Tolkiens world.
Yes I know about the errors but isn't to error to be human.I believe on one hand that if you are going thru all the effort to put out an outstanding work such as this you (being author, editor, publisher etc.) would make sure minor typos and wrong names in wrong places would be weeded out before sending off to the consumer. On the other hand I deeply feel that even with errors it falls in line with everything that Tolkien wrote about and stood for.He would have had a chuckle at the thought of an indept work such as this to have been full of the miscues. It is the same with all his characters in his world. He did show the true nature of all his peoples of Middle Earth and their ability to make errors of their own over and over again. So in the end that is not a big problem for me.This work has got to be the must own for anyone who has read and in deed loves the written works and wants more, craves more information. If any of you are like I am then you have read the books (numerous times) but still find things that escape me in this timeline or that history or this persons past... well this great read will help you finally find those answers you are continually looking for.Like one poster said if you are only working with the movies and then crack open this masterpiece... you may be at a loss on much of it.Mainly the early info. from the time of the Valar and such.Overall though I still would say that if you have a love for all things Tolkien then you will not go wrong with getting your stubby Hobbit hands on this work.
5-0 out of 5 stars Lost in Middle-earth?
Karen Wynn Fonstad (a noted cartographer) fills close to two-hundred pages with hundreds of two-color maps. This is a must have companion to the Silmarillion, The Hobbit, and The Lord of the Rings. The amount of detail is astounding. Especially since the films did not exist at the point in time that this book was published. Which means she has studied these books in-depth to accurately catalog the battles, climate, vegetation, architecture and languages. The atlas also covers those three books individually and the three ages of Middle-earth, along with an accurate timeline.

3-0 out of 5 stars OK, but not as your only resource
This map is convienient (like the others in the series) because you can fold it in half and stick it in your pocket without it getting all ripped up.However, I ended up referring to other maps as well to verify where I was going. The Prague map is particularly inconvenient in that it divides the Stare Mesto (the central area where most tourists spend their time) in half, such that I frequently had to turn it over as I traced my path.

5-0 out of 5 stars My favorite brand of maps
I've become a loyal fan of Streetwise maps, and the Prague map is no exception. The detail and accuracy of the map is great, and the laminated format makes it very easy to use. I never get stuck trying to re-fold Streetwise maps, and they're easy to fold down to view just the panel you need, so that you're not so obvious as a tourist walking around with a huge, unwieldy map. Plus, you never have to worry about tearing or spilling on them!

2-0 out of 5 stars i agree, you do better for free
for all of the reasons described above, i too, like the streetwise series, but i didn't end up using this map...i'd say it rates fair/fine/ok.i had done some travel planning but upon arrival in prague found that the local/free/tourist maps showed more of central prague, better.just one specific example: the uzjed/petrin funicular was left off (or covered up by a key).and the flipping back and forth was inconvenient - something i'd expect and accept for central to suburb transition but not central to central locations. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars For the true O'Brien aficionado's out there . .
A wonderfully illustrated geographical guide to the complete series.Great for both historians and the geographically-challenged, this book enhances the enjoyment of each novel. While King tries hard to avoid any 'spoilers' one has to be careful in looking at the route plots too early in each novel lest you see unexpected developments revealed - or, as Jack Aubrey would say, you'll be brought by the lee like a true lubber!Enjoy.

3-0 out of 5 stars a rather weak effort
I dislike rambling Amazon user reviews, and so I'll keep this short; Mr. King's book is reasonably good in terms of maps, though one might wish that a few more were added. The introductory material is somewhat interesting, if a bit simplistic. The prose leaves something to be desired; I found myself constantly irritated by particularly inept turns of phrase.
4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent companion
Synopsi of each book; info on all the islands, cities and other places visited, excellent maps.I did want a little more though... more of each type of thing. It's one of those that you would want on your shelf along with other companion books. No 1 book is perfect. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars the Gazetteer
I would not want to be without this map when referring to locations throughout the state of Maine. The gazetteer is an invaluable resource.

5-0 out of 5 stars A definite MUST HAVE for any Maine traveler
We bought this atlas a few weeks before a two week Maine vacation we had planned. We had an idea of a few different places we were going to visit and didn't want to get lost along the way.
5-0 out of 5 stars Maine Bible
The Maine Atlas & Gazetteer by DeLorme should also be known as "The Maine Bible."Every Mainer should own one.All too often I've tried those web sites that are supposed to give you driving directions, and inevitably they give me an error message saying "that location was not found" when I try to get directions to places in rural Maine. You'll never have to worry about that with the Gazetteer.Every Maine city, town, village or plantation is listed in this book, no matter how obscure it is. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Very good but a couple complaints
This highly detailed map is an invaluable reference but its size and layout make it cumbersome to refer to on the go.Also there's no overlap from one page to the next.If your route is in the middle of the page, you're in luck! But going from Asheville to neighboring Black Mountain requires flipping among 4 different pages.

3-0 out of 5 stars A compromised but required series of maps
For years I refused to buy this road atlas because it got the name and length of the 1970's era street I live on wrong. In fact, I noted several errors within the vicinity that I'm most familiar with. That said, it's still the only serious contender for a reasonably decent compendium of local maps. I finally broke down and bought a copy because so many birding and canoeing resources reference the "Delorme" as it's usually called locally. It's no real alternative to having very detailed USGS topo maps of any area of intense interest, but I'll give it credit for being a reasonably compact, (by large, bulky, car use standards), version of a state map. It's position is between that of the free Dept of Transportation maps and the highly detailed local maps that can be purchased from convience stores for road use, and from the better outdoor provision and recreational companies for topographical and lake and shore details. For what it is, it's definitely worth the price. Just don't expect it to be the last local map you'll buy. It's a compromise all the way around. But, sometimes a compromise is the best solution. That said, I went ahead and got the one for SC, and will probably get the one for VA as well.

5-0 out of 5 stars delorme gazetteer series
the delorme gazeteer series is perfect for people who want to wander off of the main roads.my wife and i like to point the car as whim sees fit.the map has backroads with enought detail to let us find our wish and our way back.essential for indirect travel.also has marked 4wd trails to unknown wonders, as well as a smattering of known wonders (waterfalls, museums, fishing, camping...).not a replacement for usgs quads, but will make the travel to your hike more fun.if you are interested in exploring a state, or some portion thereof, the gazetteer series is an invaluable tool. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Accurate and tough the Streetwise Map
The Streetwise Biblao was sure a helop to me as a tourist. Bilbao is a city in which few speak English (even at the hotels) and I found the map a godsend. It was to scale and accurate even as to the difficult Basque spelling of words. I had another map with me (It will go un-named) and it was a joke. I've come to rely on Streetwise over the years and have neve been disapointed except when they don't have a title for the city I'm visiting.

3-0 out of 5 stars old
This map is generally useful and the plastic format is very convenient, but although this site says the map is c. 2001, the map I got was a 1996 version, and therefore missing some significant developments since then, e.g., the Raval Rambla.

3-0 out of 5 stars Disappointed
I purchased this with the intent of using to help divide mailing lists by sales territory. However,I soon realized that it defines zip code areas by the first three digits only, i.e. 640, 641.This was helpful, but not nearly as much help as a five digit breakout would have been.If you need a five digit breakout, buy a wall map.

5-0 out of 5 stars Zip Code Atlas

Dorling Kingersley has developed a distinctive style in its atlases. The publisher enthusiastically embraces a "more-is-more" approach to atlas layout. Each page is dominated by a beautifully detailed general map surrounded by numerous smaller thematic maps, blocks of text, charts and photographs. Eight foldout pages accommodate several wide features such as the Russian Federation.

these maps are wonderful!!!
5-0 out of 5 stars A must-have for any Ohio fisherman
I like to scout out small lakes off the beaten path, and this Atlas has proven invaluable to me.Picture this:If you cut out all the pages and re-assembled them into a one-piece map it would be as roughly as big as the average front yard!Hardly anything is left out, including many small farm pond sized bodies of water. My best discovery to date was a tiny 'lake' South of Columbus, Ohio, with a picture of a fish on it.I made the short trip and proceeded to catch a 6 pound Bass out of it- unheard of in the more heavily populated lakes around Columbus.

4-0 out of 5 stars Still cheaper at Sam's Club
Better detail than other available state-wide atlases.Great for business travel to smaller towns and to outlying county areas. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Oxford Atlas
Wonderful, really. There are so many good things about this atlas, that it is difficult to cover them. The maps are great -- though, the one criticism I have is that every country's map in in the names of things in that country's language.Well, not speaking a hundred different languages, I often haven't the slightest idea what I am looking at.A few times, the add the English in parenthesis, but not as much as is needed.I would encourage them to discard the multicultruism and just print everything in English.Things are going to go that way, eventually, any way, as the Anglosphere is getting tired of multiculturalism.Anyway, there are terrific satellite pictures of different cities, many city maps.I wish they would add better maps of the oceans, though. Also, the ocean bottoms would be interesting, like the National Geographic Society has made.I would have liked more maps of little islands, as I have lived on such and would have liked that to see.Anyway, still a fantastic effort.Worth every penny.I bought it for reference, and it has helped me already. ...
