5-0 out of 5 stars The New Atlas by Mc Cracken
The presentation shows a 3-dimensional and anatomically correct5-0 out of 5 stars For the layman
This book is a beautiful book.I love the pictures. It is NOT for an A&P class though. You would need a book like Martini, Marieb, Tortora, Van de Graaff for that. But, the pictures are beautiful and on nice paper. The information that is presented is accurate. It is just not detailed. If you expect a very technical book, this is NOT the book for you.If you just want an easy read and overview of the body, this book is for you.

5-0 out of 5 stars New and exciting
This book is really very interesting. It isn't like the regular A&P text books. It describes some anatomy but it wouldn't get you through an anatomy class at all.The pictures are beautiful and the book is huge with wonderful descriptions. It is very easy to understand, even for a lay person.I enjoyed the book very much.Disregard the other bad reviews.I can't believe someone would make a huge deal about a circumsized cadaver!(which is how they reproduced their photos!!) ... 4-0 out of 5 stars A very good review book for a medical student
I found the book nicely edited, the illustrations were priceless and contained lots of information. The theoretical content of the book though cannot be compared with Ross, this is why it can be used only as a review book. The main quality of the book is in its illustrations and images, which are truly excellent.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great atlas for histology
I found this book to be a great resource for my medical histology class. The pictures helped me to remember key concepts for on my histology lab.The difference between squamous and transitional epithelium can really only be appreciated with the help of this atlas since it is harder to describe it in words. If you really want to know the type of medical histology questions asked on histology medical exams, get the following which is on amazon:5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent source for medical students

3-0 out of 5 stars disappointing
This volume is handsome and visually appealing, but its contents are a disappointment. The appellation "atlas" is entirely inappropriate for a work that contains only a handful of maps scattered across hundreds of pages and pays almost zero attention to regional variations. The work also spoke little about "culture," choosing to zero in on specific historical anecdotes, generalizations about historic ties with China, and the most cursory information on the life of the modern Japanese. I was very, very disappointed. It's a nice book, but it's not at all what I expected.

5-0 out of 5 stars Beautiful photographs and detailed descriptions
I'm a Japanese and I had some troubles when I explain about Japanese things in English at my web. I got several dictionaries and encyclopedias on Japanese culture in English, but they won't do when I want to explain in depth. Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Too detailed, too many pages
It's at once too detailed and not detailed enough. For instance, Palo Alto is spread out on something like 6 pages. It makes it terribly difficult to figure out driving directions anywhere, flipping around all the time. It's extremely detailed, but less useful because of that.
5-0 out of 5 stars Thomas Guide Bay Area - wish I'd bought it earlier
This guide is indispensable for pinpointing streets and locations, and finding jammed freeway detours. I began using it the first day. The ring binding makes it easy to use and long lasting. I haven't even used the CD yet, but that further enhances its usefulness. I'm a AAA member and have relied on its individual maps for years; they're still more useful for intermediate distance viewing, but the Thomas Guide is the one I'll be using regularly from now on.

5-0 out of 5 stars Easily the Best
I've traveled to Paris 6 times. Four of those leading groups. This 'map' is the best you can get. The size is ideal. As a traveler, fold-out maps are awkward and easily single one out as a "tourist" for all the hawkers in the immediate vicinity. This saves you a lot of grief. Second: the detail in the maps is superb. From boulevards to alleys - it's all there and easy to get to. The only downside is absence of a large scale single frame view of the city, but this is really minor for regular use - there is an index. Get this one among the first for your Paris trip. It is invaluable.

5-0 out of 5 stars I wouldn't leave home without it
This is the best map book i have ever found the huge fold out ones are a pain to use when you are on a street corner trying to figure out how to get to where you are going.
5-0 out of 5 stars best Paris map ever
This is my favorite map of Paris. I have used it now on at least 4 trips to Paris. It is light and portable enough to carry around all day walking, and it is like the Thomas Guide equivalent of Paris in that you can look up a street in the index and locate it precisely on the map.It comes in handy when you have an address (ie of a restaurant or store that you want to visit)and have no idea where it is.There is also a subway map and a map of all the arrondisemonts. This has got to be the best map ever!!I wish every city had a map like this. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars excellent overview
If you're going to the White Continent or just a fan, this map gives an excellent, detailed picture of Antarctica. All the major landing spots are covered, & it gives an overview of the wildlife & where they're found. 5-0 out of 5 stars incredible compilation with very thoughtful composition
I am blown away by this book - it's almost like the book that keeps on giving! - I am not only a huge architecture freak, but I am a proffessional photographer, artist, designer and musician - When I spend this kind of money on books, I expect something very well thought through - this book has become my favorite book...Period - I hold it above great architecture books such as 10x10_2 , 10x10, the whole 'Architecture NOW' series - The layout is amazing, there is not only enough color photos to sink a ship, but great quality photos done by great photographers - the key info (i.e. Sqaure footage, cost, etc) - an index sorted by architect, building, and location - this book has to be seen to be believed!!! - a compilation of most of my favorite architecture!! - now, I can only PRAY that Phaidon will be kind enough to grace us with another one of these!!!

4-0 out of 5 stars The World for a hundred bucks
Amazing book.I have it opened in a special table so I come home everyday, grab a beer and take my time for visual enjoyment andarchitectural travelling around the world.Nice edition and good selection.

5-0 out of 5 stars Top Stuff
I love this Book. As a student of architecture now in my final year I must say that this book has helped me immensly over the past 1.5 yrs. When we are given a new project I go staight to my atlas and the building types index to find numerous buildings I can research as case studies. Even though there is only a half page on most buildings it gives you enough of an idea of whether a project is worth researching in more detail.

4-0 out of 5 stars informative and helpful
The maps and charts in this altas are fabulous. The historical and geographical explanations are vey informative.

3-0 out of 5 stars Extremely Detailed- Not a Quick Overview
I'm a graduate student and bought the book for a class at the seminary that I attend.Even as a graduate student, the books' geography is way too detailed for a quick survey of the land. But, if you are looking for a very detailed, informative Atlas, then this is the book to buy.

5-0 out of 5 stars Clear and Accurate
This is my choice for a Bible atlas. The text and maps are clear and accurate. The map citation index and Scripture index are complete. The time line and color photos help to make this an interesting atlas.ForBible teachers, a complete set of matching overhead transparencies isavailable. My Bible college students have voted this their #1 choice. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Best single guide to Chicago
NFT - Chicago is the one book to carry around in your backpack as you cruise the city - but pay attention to the title. It really is not for tourists.
5-0 out of 5 stars great book for new people to chicago
uptown, oldtown, gold coast, north side.....sometimes it seems like Chicagoland has another name for every area. This book is great.Just what I needed to explore the areas of Chicago. It's organised by areas and lists all of the different things from restaurants totheatres to laundry mats in the area. The maps are very clear and easy to read.Excellent book for people who've just moved to Chicago (and aren't after the touristy things).I think it's equally useful for people who live in the 'burbs and downtown dwellers.Highly recommended.

3-0 out of 5 stars scale bar, PLEASE
I am a former Chicago resident, planning to move back with my boyfriend who has never lived there. We bought this book so I could show him in more detail neighborhoods, etc.The detailed neighborhood info and many maps are great - BUT they need a scale bar.We like to walk or bike everywhere, and there's no sense of distance on these maps. ... Matching clear graphics with informative text, Christopher Scarre's atlas gives a fine overview of Roman history from the emergence of the first city-state in the eighth century B.C. to the rise of Christian theocracy a millennium later. Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Good but should have been bigger.
The atlas is not that large.I bought four similar atlases all from Penguin and they are all thin books (< 150 pages) and small in size (10" x 7").
2-0 out of 5 stars Not really an Atlas
I would like to second the comments of Jacques P. Talbot.I bought this book expecting an atlas, that is a book of maps. There are some maps in this book, but they are small and cluttered and I don't really find them useful. The book is mostly pictures and text.It reminds me of that Time-Life series, that is aimed at young people, although this book is not as good as any in that series. The publishers must have changed their mind about what they wanted to do with this book. They should not have put the word "Atlas" on this confused mess.It might be OK as an introduction for people about 14-16 years old, but if you want an atlas with useful maps in it, don't buy this.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent for the lay man
I think I found answers to all I've ever wanted to know about the Roman Empire. This book is certainly readable by anyone. If you don't like reading long texts, this book is perfect. If you do like longer texts, this book is also nice. The balance between pictures and texts is optimal in my opinion. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The Student Bible Atlas
I have been looking for just this kind of atlas for my 5th and 6th grade Sunday School class. The main thing I like about it is that it uses the same map of Israel and shows it at the various periods. Most atlases and Sunday School curricula show various maps instead of one map that changes over time.I liked the comparison maps of the empires. The comments and illustrations with each map are also useful.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Companion to Bible for Both Child and Adult!
This is definitely a worthy purchase if you have achild and as well if you (admit it) still get mixed up a bit with Middle East geography, especially when it comes to what an area was called years ago and what its present-day name is.When you read a passage to your child, show him withthis each time where that scripture was taking place at that time period(the atlas shows name changes and political boundaries in different timesegments). You both will have a much better understanding of what wastaking placewhere and when. ... Read more
