The IBC more than just another building code
The IBC is the long-time-coming consolidation of the three major building codes in the US and there is nothing "international" about it.Back in the 70's the 3 code organizations formed BOCA and put out a 1 & 2 family dwelling code. The 3 members them gradually made changes to the individual building codes that brought them into similar formats, then they combined them into one code in 2000, the IBC, and modified the dwelling code to be the IRC (Int. Residential Code)and changed the organization's name to the ICC, the Int. Code Council. There little to review about the content since it is either the law in your area or it is not.For comparisons to previous codes and other information try the ICC's website http://www.iccsafe.org/

A Strucural Engineer's Necessity
It is pretty difficult to review a specification that you must have.

Better learn this code.Local codes are being swept away by one standard.Here is Colorado each town had its own test, amendments and licensing system.California is the only state, having revamped its code 2 years ago, to keep its system.Read more

Where's the bite of yesteryear?

Fox News In the Print Edition
As one reads the various customer reviews, it becomes obvious that the commentary in this book is skewed sharply to the right. Conservatives think it's "fair and balanced"; liberals don't. That's a tell tale sign as far as 24 TV news networks are concerned.

The book was purchased in CD rom form. There is key word searches forspecific items. Every builder needing a permit to start constuction shouldknow this book well. Good Resource for All
My publisher recommended this book as I prepared to write my second non-fiction book.I was looking for guidelines for proposal writing, and was not disappointed.I found something helpful in each of the ten proposals the Hermans chose to illustrate their guidelines. The list of elements that need to be included in any proposal, no matter the genre, convinced me I'd do well to follow their advice.I recommend this book for new authors looking for help getting their foot in a publisher's door.

Excellent
An spectacular book, with amazing photos and very quality printing. It became fast part of my car books collection.

The Car Design Yearbook 4
This volume continues the format and quality of volumes 1-3, with the same strengths (beautiful photos, appealing coffee table appearance, etc.) and weaknesses (commentary isn't always helpful; every car gets about the same depth of coverage, whether it's a production-ready Fiat or an amazing concept car). If you liked the earlier editions, you'll enjoy this one too.

The Car Design Yearbook 4
This is one of the coolest yearbooks around, especially if you like to stay updated on cars that came out last year. These books are excellent reference for years to come.

Picture the poor, young, serious-fiction writer. He toils alone at a pace not so different from that of Lincoln Tunnel traffic at rush hour in New York. His spouse has a "real" job, or perhaps he has a trust fund. His college friends are cashing in on their dot-coms and wondering if he's ever going to join the real world. He is not hell-bent on publication; he is trying to write "serious, honest fiction, the kind of novel that readers will find they enjoy reading more than once, the kind of fiction likely to survive."He's likely to have no idea whether he's succeeding. Gardner the master
Gardner seems always aware that he is a master and he views the readers of his books on craft as students as well as disciples.While he offers much guidance to the novice writer, the book serves best as a reminder that we what we are doing is not some vain hobby, not some time-waster as others may think it to be.This book reminds us that our efforts are worthy of the time spent and that we are not alone in our quest.At the same time that we need stories to excite and inspire us, we need to be reminded of why it is we do what we do.And it's also helpful for us to be reminded of the discipline necessary for our labor.Unfortunately, the author falls into that same creative writing teacher trap of trying to weed out those unworthy.He wants to be sure that in attempting this that we are up to the task.At the same time, that talk can be discouraging to those sensitive writer-types who are by nature filled with self-doubt.

Honest book. No coddling.
