Easy Shopping
I'd been meaning to pick up this book for some time, but just hadn't had the time.I searched for it on Amazon - found it - ordered it.It came in good time - reasonable price.I was very satisfied.Saved me time and gas money!

No Election Results = Worst Edition Ever!!
Every Christmas since I was 11 I have gotten this book as a gift. Last year was no different but I am really pissed off that the company was too lazy to wait for the November 2 Election Results. This was the same terrible decision they made for the 2003 issue. They must suppose us peons can get the information online now. But the great thing about the Almanac is that you could read about the elections w/o being near a computer.

A little book with BIG information
I got this book after seeing it on Mythbusters.Now I understand why they have it.This is an incredible little book.It is clear, understandable, and well put together.

Great F1 Book.
Great pictures and commentary.Great coffee table book.Tons of stats and info. on F1 teams and drivers.I bought 2000-2001 through 2004-2005.I've enjoyed these books and look forward to buying future and some older issues.

Typical of recent examples and still a "must have"....
The 2005-6 Autocourse continues in the same vein as in recent years with superb photography complimenting good, if minimal, race reviews.Jared M's review (#1 above) is misleading I think.The race coverage is typically woeful with a 'once over lightly' feel and pretty short on detail.The qualifying coverage is dreadful, a few paragraphs at most and it only deals with just a few of the 20 cars leaving you wondering just what happened to the rest of the field in practice and qualifying.This trend started in the last ten years and if you compare the current example with an Autocourse of say 1996 or 1991 or earlier, you'll be shocked at the decline.What was once a comprehensive review that covered the entire event and detailedthe whole field, even back to the non-qualifiers, has become a thumbnail sketch with the photo quotient amped up in an apparent attempt to dazzle you into not noticing the editorial drop-off.It's a shame really, but since other F1 reviews can't hold a candle to Autocourse, there's no motivation for Autocourse to improve.So despite this year's Autocourse comparing badly to it's predecessors, it is the definitive article and the useful reviews of other race series from around the world are still very good.Three and a half stars would be a more accurate rating.

An improvement on previous years
During 2004, there was considerable upheaval at Hazelton, the publishers of Autocourse since at least 1979 (which is far back as my collection of Autocourse annuals goes) which, as I understand it, meant the 2004 edition very nearly didn't get published.As it transpired, the 2004 annual did make it to the shelves, and Crash Media Group (CMG) took over publishing duties from Hazelton for 2005 and beyond.At the time of the takeover, CMG, who were aware that they were picking up probably the longest running of all the motorsport annuals, and promised the loyal readership of Autocourse (and its sister publications Rallycourse and Motocourse) that the standards of Autocourse would return to what it had been.Autocourse over the last 10 years or so (some readers would say 15 or 20) has slipped somewhat in its attempts to be more commercial, with a trend towards increasing the pictorial content with fluff tabloidy photographs and layouts and less focus on editorial content.

Excellent Resource Book
For anybody in the construction, engineering, design, or code enforcement/verification fields this book is a must.It is an excellent reference & resource book with tons of valuable information.

Formating changes make this a challenging book to read
1. The overwhelming amount of format changes since '94 edition were unnecesary and confusing.Reference books such as these need a standardized format to allow for easier access to information.2. Interest in and usage of herbal preparations as alternatives topharmaceuticals has exploded in recent years. Excellent reference for herbal medicines
Being a licensed practitioner of Chinese medicine here in the US, I purchased the PDR for Herbal Medicines, 3rd ed. because I wanted to have access to western scientific resource material about the many (about 700) herbal medicinals covered in the volume. If you're looking for a good clinical or diagnostic manual for learning how to prescribe herbal medicinals, this book, by no means, articulates how to actually effectively prescribe herbal medicines properly. In order to prescribe herbal medicines safely and effectively, they must be applied according to a diagnostic pattern discrimination methodology that is suitable for each patient's constitution, clinical presentation and pathological disease situation. All that said, however, the book is an excellent resource for information about known scientific research, references to other source materials as well as pharmacological, chemical, toxicological cautions and contraindications for each herb covered in the volume. In fact, for this kind of information, the text is hard to beat. No one should use or prescribe a medicinal that they do not know the possible side effects and toxicity potential for that particular plant material. Although some naive individuals believe that all medicinal plants are safe to use, in fact, some herbal substances are toxic, contraindicated during pregnancy, should only be used for a short period of time, etc. This book has explicit information that is consistent with many of the best herbal medicine text books that I own. The book even has ratings by the well known German 'Commission E' board that approves herbal medicines in Europe for professional use. And if that isn't enough, many Chinese and Ayurvedic medicinals are also covered. There is also a section that covers many nutritional supplements on the market as well. All in all, I highly recommend the book to those who want detailed identification, dosage, usage, pharmacological and toxicological reference material for a large number of useful plant medicinal substances. This is a great book to fill in the blanks that many other reference texts simply do not cover.

A thorough and useful reference
The PDR for Herbal Medicines is an excellent, thorough and scientific resource that will prove invaluable to physicians, nurse practitioners, naturopaths and others who use botanicals in the clinical setting.Also important for physicians who want to make sure that patients self-medicating with herbs are doing so safely.The various indexes make it easy to access vital facts rapidly.
Buyers beware on this one.
This was published by Medical Economics and no author is listed.If you're a true herbalist, expect this book to be slanted to the drug cartel's viewpoint.Read more
